Hi, I'm asking this for someone who lost her password. has anyone here ever gone through this?
The form on the login page says: "Did you forget your user name or password? Use this form and the link to your password change page will be sent to your e-mail." but the form asks only for an email? I don't see the logic
My friend alexlee has passed away yesterday. I don't know where to post it on this site. Whoever does, is welcome to copy the announcement to where it belongs.
Hrqls: Just one philosophical question to any who can answer: Apparently it is possible to get any number of brains due to some programming oversight, fine. Now the question: what is the point of using those brains to enter tournaments where you pay some of those brains, hoping to win... brains, which you can get more of without the effort? Something escapes me, LOL
Things that aren't OK for https: 1) The images are in http://i.brainking.com - already mentioned in the news 2) The "logout" link leads to http://brainking.com regardless of which protocol is used 3) brainking.info - is this part of the site? 4) user input such as this post may contain http: references. Is this permitted?
crosseyed: If I remember correctly red dot means "no weekends, no vacations", green dot is "weekend days only". The choice is available when you set up new games
Aganju: Only the pages which prompt for a password are labelled insecure, if they are not of protocol https. once this barrier is passed Chrome (Firefox too) doesn't care anymore. Until the next upgrade, LOL
Bernice: At least it advanced to round 2... check Play Cloning Gammon for a prize. 10 years (today!) in round 1. Three cheers for the great turtles who have made this achievement possible!
moistfinger: Select a password such as JtteiLhhgslz455655GhsdpmKhPfdQS. copy to a text editor because you need to type it twice. Go to settings, change your password and log out. delete the edited text. Been nice knowing you.
Hrqls: Clo(w)ning backgammon is a special case. When it was first introduced, the rule for win was different. I don't quite recall how it went, but it took into account the number of stones. Under that rule starting 15, 21-point games made sense, and I entered 2 of those. Shortly after, the rules were changed to the present form, unfortunately also for tournaments that were already started. Some of those tournaments will outlive me. So indeed, I see no problem with the system...
I posted the following on the discussion board of Play Cloning Gammon for a prize. in January 2010: Happy 3rd birthday!! Please engrave on my tomb: STILL playing Cloning Gammon for a prize.
It's soon the 8th birthday. We are still in round 1. No problem at all.
ThunderGr: No idea what other tasks are done on "game end". Same goes for the other "do you know" questions. I don't say that this is implementable code. This is a description, pseudo-code. To implement correctly one certainly has to consider side effects.
When I say section (not session) over, I mean the section as a whole in the tournament. NOT individual games within the section. Those should continue. All we want is for the tournament to progress.
"For" loops can be costly, but those I described shouldn't be. they are on the number of players in a section and one on the number of sections in a round.
All rubbish. There's no need for a time-check. Here's a 2-cent algorithm: - when any game ends, check if it is in a tournament. If not, we're done. - if yes, check it's section for winner - if there is a clear-cut winner for this section, check if all sections are done.
How to "check this section for winner": - Find the highest score - for all the other players in the section: - - assume that all the unfinished games for the player will be wins. - - if the new assumed score is higher than the "highest score" the section is not over. - if for all the other players in the section the test is good, the section is over.
This algorithm costs almost nothing in performance. 3 "for" loops and a couple of ifs. Why won't it work? because there's no one to implement it.
You may have visited a site which modified your browser settings. Check them. There usually is a pop-up blocker somewhere.
Chrome: control button -> settings -> Show advanced settings -> Privacy -> Content settings -> (scroll down) pop-ups , check "Do not allow any site to show pop-ups (recommended)"
Can't get into brainking.com I can get into .cz, that's how I enter this message however: the graphic files aren't loading so the only games I could play are those where the graphics happened to be in cache
computeropponen: This site is a bad choice for you if you like to blitz. What you find here is more the equivalent of correspondence chess. For fast action better go to FICS at http://www.freechess.org/
jadarite: My 2 cents: I see nothing wrong in the concept, under condition that the opponent has not looked at the board. (the system knows). Once the opponent looks at the played move, no undo is possible. In practice, however, it will be impossible to implement - you'd need a programmer to do that, and the only one available seems to be on extended leave.
Roberto Silva: It's a weird rule and as far as I know only GT uses it. It's optional, games can be set up as timeout=loss of turn or =loss of game. It has several unforeseen consequences.
The statistics are interesting. It's a 15-day game. For both players it's their only ongoing game. It started on 24 Oct 2001 when Goldtoken was barely 2 years old. , Only 254 moves so far.
Goldtoken shows think time (Fencer! PLEASE!!). The clocks read: NLStardust : 432 days = about 1 year 2 months. 3334: 2219 days = about 10 years 7 months. The last piece taken was on move 167, which was played in 2008.
Please note that the game is played under Glodtoken's queer "timeout = loss of turn" rule. 3334 timed out twice so far.
Why does every click on the BK site - this evening, anyway - finish seemingly correctly, but continue to load (chrome or firefox) while displaying "waiting for google-analytics.com"? Why is BK dependent on this third party site?
Bwild: Goldtoken is always here if you want it, but they're having far worse connection problems lately than BK, and most of their client base is US. And itsyourturn solved the connection problem: no discussion groups, so no complaints! now why didn't Fencer think of that simple solution?
Roberto Silva: I'm not as often here as I used too, but nothing to signal for the past days, works as fast as usual for me (France). Both by regular computer or cell phone.
Sujet: Re: Echecs de tutti frutti (tutti frutti chess)
papillon77: I'm translating, it looks like an interesting variant:
Tutti frutti chess is a chess variant invented by Ralph Betza and Philip Cohen in 1978.
There are three pieces that are not used in conventional chess: PRINCESS: bishop + knight EMPRESS: Rook + knight THE AMAZON: queen + knight
The amazon is placed in the usual location of the queen (column D). The queen herself is now on the other side of the King (column F), Princess right next to the queen (column G) and Empress on the same side of the King as the amazon (column A). The only knight is on the left column B, the only bishop on column C and the only rook on the column H. The pawns are placed as in regular chess.
In short, the piece set-up is (white) : ENBAKQPR
The pawn that reaches the last row (from the perspective of the players) is promoted to rook or bishop or knight or princess or queen or empress or amazon.
The King can castle with the Empress in accordance with the rules of castling (if the Empress has made any previous move, castling is not possible)
The spelling in English is Google's fault, but I'm sure the Estonian I got is perfect :)

El Cid: Finally, after the smoke settled at the end of the hour he "lost" some 200-300 points, so the damage was limited.
I continue to put "" around "lose" and "win" since all this BKR stuff is at best a rough estimate of the relative strength of 2 players.making a competition out of it is silly.
I've just noticed a curious side effect to the new vacation system: I have 2 chess games against a very strong player who stopped logging in for the past month. His vacation clock is winding down with 7h to go. He has 33 running games, and should time-out in all within one hour. Now here's the twist: When he times out his first game his opponent will "gain" a lot of BKR, but those "gains" for the opponents will drop sharply as the hour advances, because the player who times out will "lose" rating for each finished game. So the first opponent who "wins" gains a lot of rating points from winning against a strong player, the last one gains less, because the strong player has become mediocre within one hour. Tragic...
