furbster: It should be an interesting second round. I bet there are divisions that will be won by default as many of the players in this tournament no longer play here.
pedestrian: yes, the winning player places about 200 stones. And while the opponent fills one's territory it might be possible to pass many moves, if there is no threat to capture or make life. So it could be about 250 moves.
And if the leading player fills all eyes except one, the opponent can capture everything, and the game effectively starts from the beginning. But at this point it really becomes silly...
Thom27: That's an interesting idea, but I'm still not convinced that Go can compete with Anti Backgammon in this respect. How many moves would a game of Go take when played this way? Forming the 'perfect grid' you speak of should take 180 or 181 moves, but you will most likely have placed some extra stones early in the game that don't fit into the grid. I'm guessing slightly more than 200 moves would be realistic?
pedestrian: Sign up for Go 19*19! This might be thegame that can last longest, especially if one plays over the end, placing stones into the opponents territory until it is divided in one-point-eyes, then play into the own groups until they can be captured. Finally the winner owns the whole board and has divided everything into one-point eyes.
This is f......g ridiculous. This tournament started over six years ago and the first round id not yet over, I am not a young man, and it would be nice if it could be completed before I die, or there will be a lot of frustrated entrants waiting for me to time out long after I have!
Here we are again with another yearly installment of the much anticipated "St Patricks Day Pente Tournament"
After constantly adjusting and tweaking the Tourney Settings every year to try and improve the flow and speed, last years parameter change of "10 wins match" should not have been selected. The 2011 tourney is still ongoing due to this
improper setting for a "final match with two players."
With that key learning identified, I believe we'll use the same settings as last years format but lower the 10 wins match to something more reasonable '5' seems like a decent baseline since 3 is a bit light. With this minor change,
this years St Pat's Tourney should have the best settings yet for speed while maintaining a solid challenge to all players.
This is a prize tournament with 1 year Brain Rook awarded to the winner. The section size has been set at 7 people per section with time limits set at 2 days per move with vacation allowed.....anything more and the tourney
won't finish before the 2012 St Patty's tourney.
Do you feel you have the Pente luck of the Irish? well sign up and see how far you can make it through the Rounds! On St.Patricks Day (March 17, 2012) the tourney begins!
My thanks to all of you who continue to sign up for this tournament every year! Good luck to all of you, I look forward to playing you across the board!
Is there anyone who would like to join The Good, The Bad and The Ugly fellowship and sign up for the team challenge game Dice Poker. We only have 6 players and and need 8. I would love to sign up for the Team tournament.
I were browsing tournaments and found one for players who aren't confident in their pente skills: Friday 4 player elimination #210 Pointless for me to join (1 man needed) so maybe someone else will gladly try playing this game.
