1. If I was hidden you wouldn't have read it or responded to it. Do you really think other people are as s****d as you?

2. You're clearly not a native English speaker.

Czuch Chuckers: I didn't read all the discussion, but as a native english speaker with a relatively high level of education, it is true to say that NO country has a majority of users.

More importantly it IS true to say that the majority of users don't have a holiday on the 4th of July. This, I believe, is the point.

Pioneer54: I agree with most points. However, as with the real chess ratings, inactive players should be removed from the list. If they become active they go back.

Sujet: Re: You're playing how many games?!!
AbigailII: I know it's not perfect. But actually with more games going you would have more chance to play quickly. I frequently don't have any games where it's my turn and am slower than I otherwise would be. Someone with 900 games going would never be in that situation.

Anyway, it's just an attempt to rank players by how quickly they will move in a given game. If you can think of another way to determine that I'm all ears.

Sujet: Re: You're playing how many games?!!
AbigailII: The point is not how fast you are playing, but how many moves per game each day. So if you play more games, you will play fewer turns per day.

I may play 200 turns in a day, but because I play 20 games, that's 10 moves per game per day. If I played 200 games I'd average 1 move per game per day.

Walter Montego: You're correct 50/25 = 1400/700.

The reason for going back a month is just to get more statistical data, meaning a more accurate assessment of the player's speed.

Hrqls: Probably a good idea to split by game type, since some players choose to move backgammon quickly but think for days on chess for instance.

playBunny: No need to be condescending.

Sujet: Re: You're playing how many games?!!
Walter Montego: I like it as well.

I think, though, that a speed rating would be useful. It would be:
Moves per Day in last month / Number of Games Currently playing

I would prefer to filter by this value.

Sujet: Re: 1 hour limit
Jason: I understand the way it works now. My question is how do you play a 40 move game of anything with 1 hour limits?????????????

That's why total game time makes more sense.

Walter Montego: Simple solution to your problem is don't join too many games at once.

Sujet: Re: 1 hour limit
pauloaguia: Um, reloading the page takes a few seconds. Surely a 3 minute game would be aa good "Lightning version".

Anyway, the 2 hours max time would be good, working just like a real chess clock, but without the silly adding time when you move. I'm ok with adding 30 minutes per 40 moves or something.

14. Juin 2005, 19:57:46
grenv
I don't think one hour is a good idea. Much better would be 2 hours for the whole game or something like that. If the game length is unknown then I might fall asleep before the game is over.

Another reason why 3 minute limits are probably better.

And what about viewed game? That implies that I am no longer viewing, even though I might be. The time is important either way.

Luke Skywalker: I was trying not to say the obvious, but you are correct. And from a non-English speaking country as well.

We should do a better job of teaching English in countries where it is the main language it seems.

So I believe we've established that the sentence: "grenv's last action was logging out" is correct.

The alternative
"grenv's last action resulted in him being logged out" is clumsy at best.

Sujet: Re:
baudrillard: I disagree actually. Nobody's paying for this site for anything other than playing games.

In fact giving all the extras (other than # of games etc) to non-paying players would not have an impact on sales IMO, so might as well.
