Fencer, how about a simple card game like gin/gin rumy to 500 points? http://www.pagat.com/rummy/ginrummy.html or http://www.netintellgames.com/ginrules.htm

Thanks for all suggestions. But I will have a time for card games after all planned features [listed at the top of this page] are implemented.

I would normally say card games would not work on a turn based site, but something like gin/gin rummy might just work the more I think about it. 500 points would probable take way too long on a turn based site - maybe to 150 points.

If they have to be 2 player (and I see why they should -- partnership games could become a joke with collaberation), 2-handed Euchre might be a good choice. I'll find the rules if you're interested.

I am an avid card player. If I feel like playing cards online I'd go to a realtime site. I would recommend against card games here.

Do you know "Skat"? It is an interesting German cardgame. The regular game is for three players, but there is also a two playersvariant called "officerskat".
No kidding,a boardgame site should have boardgames only. Otherwise it would change to a casino.

Luckly this is not a boardgame site, but a game site - so IF Fencer ever gets some free time way down the road, it would be something to look at.

I agree that most card games will not work on a turn based game site though..... BUT at the same time if we could get a card game to work, it would again set this site above the other turn based game sites!

I think it is infeasible for card games on a site like this...each hand would take 52 turns (26 per person). Most games require more than one hand to complete. Also as the game progresses, it becomes increasingly hard to remember which cards were already played. There are some obvious exceptions to this with games like BlackJack, but still...♠♣♥♦

BBW,I see here boardgames only until now. Games with the same startposition (except Screen Chess)and games, which have not to do with luck (except Backgammon). And that`s why the site mainly has the character of a boardgamesite and this is good so.
I don`t think that a too big differentiation with cardgames or games of hazard is good for the development of the site.I am ,it is a matter of common knowledge, for the " red line"...

A ladder is an ordered list of players, where challenges by lower ranked players are required to change the order.
On other sites this seems to me to favour those players who play often and is not as satisfying as ratings or tournaments. I wouldn't bother personally.

If you're going to provide shogi, as the average length of a game is 60 moves each it might be nice to have an option for 1/2 days for a move.

If you set this option on and timeout checker script detects a game of yours that should timeout, it will automatically add a vacation day for you (if you have some days left, of course).

Sujet: Option to turn off notation, or a toggle link?
Hi, My browser, FF 1.0, hangs while waiting for the longer notations to finish loading (maybe b/c my pc is older). Is there an option to turn off notation, or mabye a toggle link for it? If it's in Settings, I'm missing it. Thanks either way.

I noticed that a piece may, next move, return to the square from which it came.
in stratego/sabotage that is forbidden. is it a feature (not too good imho) or a bug ? ~*~

I think that I read in the rules that it is supposed to be forbidden here, also. Sounds like a bug, to me.

The rules say: "If a pieces moves up, it cannot move down (back to the square where it was before the up move) in the next turn, a different move must be done first."

I take that to mean as long as any different move is made in between (even a different piece) that you could move a piece back to where it came from.

rod03801
Right, but he said "next move"

30. Septembre 2004, 08:33:45

I have an idea for a chess variant. It has the regular chess pieces, chancellor, archbishop, queen, and amazon on a 11x8 board.

The rooks are on the a and k files and the king is on the f file, which gives 4 pieces inbetween the rook and king on each side.

Now, the other pieces set-up is random so long as the bishops are on different colors.

In castling you move the king 4 spaces on either side. Because the king and rooks always start on the same files there is not a problem having to implement difficult castling rules.

What do you think guys, would you like to see this on BK?

If that could be implemented it would be greatly appreciated. I have to go back a move to see what they took then when I hit forward I cant play so have to go back to main page then enter the game turn again that way.
