It would be cool to have an "moved so far today" list somewhere (Like on the Statistics Page) - would make it easier for when I want to go for the 2,000 move mark!

I was thinking the delete option was not on Tournament games.

IMCK - It could be either way - make the first turn (and any auto-pass turns) part of the current time limit, or after the first, put back to the main time limit. (But the point would be that the player who CAN play will be able to play the game, instead of sitting on the opponenets board waiting for them to pass.) Personally, I would see after each "Submit", it would be an end to the turn so full time would be put back on, but the game would immediatly be put back on the persons game page to be able to play their next turn.

And in some games, I have seen a player not be able to make ANY moved for months at a time in that game. (Yes, just like now the player will be able to play in other games.), but its not really a matter of playing in a faster game - but being able to play in ANY game. (I don't consider "passing" as playing - it basicly saying "Hey, let the other player play again." - and not actually playing themselfs.) If a player still want to take full time to play their move, then they can still do that. It is NOT the point of auto-pass to make player play faster - but letting player actually PLAY in a game.

Sujet: Auto Pass
I was not going to post on this subject since Fencer has made his decision, and if he does not want it - then it is his site to run, so he does not need to put it in.

But I want keep reading post like ughaibu who thinks that the auto pass would only save 3-4 seconds, and other stuff - so let me first examplain how an auto-pass option would help, and then some reasons why it would be good. (Again, sorry Fencer - I know this has all been said before, but I know that some users were not around to read this before.)

How it will help. Well take this current example of a game. Lets say that each person takes 2 days to make a move.

  • Jan 1 - Player A moves
  • Jan 3 - Player B has no moves, passes
  • Jan 5 - Player A moves
  • Jan 7 - Player B has no moves, passes
  • Jan 9 - Player A moves
  • Jan 11 - Player B has no moves, passes
  • Jan 13 - Player A moves
  • Jan 15 - Player B has no moves, passes
  • Jan 17 - Player A moves
  • Jan 19 - Player B has no moves, passes
  • Jan 21 - Player A moves
  • Jan 23 - Player B has no moves, passes
  • Jan 25 - Player A moves
  • Jan 27 - Player B has no moves, passes
  • Jan 29 - Player A moves
  • Jan 31 - Player B has no moves, passes
  • Feb 2 - Player A moves
  • Feb 4 - Player B Now has a move, and finaly gets to play.

Now lets take the same game example, and show how it would work with auto-pass:

  • Jan 1 - Player A moves, submits, Player B can not make a move so it allows Player A to make another move. Submits again, Player B can not make a move again, so it allows Player A to make another move. (and so on and so on until Player B is able to move)
  • Jan 3 - Player B looks at the game, see's a message that says "You had no moves available. CLICK HERE to jump ahead to your current move, or you can click "next" to go through move by move to see what your opponenet has done"

So for the above example, a month was saved in a game - I have seen some games which go MANY months of passing.

    ============
Reasons why it would be good:

    1) THIS IS A GAME SITE! Persoanaly, I come here to play games. Me sitting for a month and hitting "Pass" is NOT PLAYING. I've even seen some people just resign because they wanted to play a game, not sit and hit pass for months.

    2) Plus other minor issues like it will speed up the time it takes to complete a game, complete a tournament, etc.... but for me, the #1 issues is MY main issue why I would like to see it.

AGAIN - Sorry Fencer to talk more about this subject. :-)

Even though I would rather see you spend more time creating new games, I'll suggest this anyway just in case it is something that wouldn't be to hard to do.

For the discussion board, it is nice to have the option of "approve pawns post", but as seen in other board pawns are normally not the problem - it is usually just 1 or 2 people.

Right now we are able to ban & hide a user - but how about a 3rd option - "Need approval" option. That way their post will go to the "need approval" list just like the pawns do in the "Pawns need approved" Mode.

I personally think there are plenty of sites on the internet where you can play solitaire type games already, and I would much prefer Fencer spend time coding new multi-player, turn based games.

    Sujet: rating of inactive players
Can I make a suggestion of also having a "show all" option to even show the users who are not active anymore.

At time it might also be interesting to see how you stack up against all users, even inactive users.

Sujet: Re: rating of inactive players
I would not like to see a rating drop just because a player is not playing that game anymore - why should they be pentelized for things like no internet access for long periods of time, but would like to come back and play later down the road.

What I would like to see is possible after 2-3 mounts without a finished game of a game type, that their rating is simply "hidden" from the Ratings page. That way if they do come back and play again, they can simple start where they left off and their "hidden" rating will become visable again.

    Sujet: Re: Loop Battleboats Plus
It would end, it would just awhile.

For example, lets say I quickly find a sink one of your ships - I will still have 5 shots, you only 4. I can then decided to keep shooting with my 5 shots, or place the captured boat which will then give me 6 shots, and you still 4 (that is if you sunk none of my ships)

Then again, I may not place the captured ship right away to keep shooting. But also, when I replace the captured ship, it could be placed where you have already shot - so it would make it even harder to find.

    coan.net
Loop Battleboats Plus - now that would be interesting (and a longer game)

After you sink your oppenets ship, you can then instead of taking your turn to shot, place the boat you just captured back in play. AND what is cool is that it can be placed in a spot where your oppenet already shot - so a player would also need the ability to shot at the same square multiply times during a game.

Then since it is Plus, you could possible have 9 boats with 9 shots per turn.

    Sujet: Rating changes chart
Link to My rating chart on LittleGolem.net

The above is one of the cool things about LittleGolem, you can look at charts of your ratings and how they have changed. If you look at the above chart (for Golem Word Game), it shows that I started around 1500 in 2002, went up - and notice I did not play for about a year or so, and recently just played a few games which has changed my rating a little.

But unless you re-do how the Moderators work, you will never get 24/7 coverage. For example, the Purple/Princess boards - no one would be as "strict" as they are, so there would be no one else that could help watch those board.

Unless you make some "global" moderators who have access to edit out bad words & personal attacks on all public boards - possible with the rule that the "global" moderators mostly just edits and hides and lets the "regular" moderators choose if they want to ban or keep hidden the user. BUT AND I STRESS THIS MUCH - If you do have global moderators for the public boards, you HAVE to have someone who is fair to all - not like some current board moderators.

    17. Juillet 2004, 18:45:59
    coan.net
Well right now if a person uses bad language, it is up to each individual moderator on how to handle it. For example, i would probable just edit out the word. Some moderators will just delte the whole post, while others will ban/hide the user.

Again, it's basicly each moderator's board now - no global rules on how to handle things like that.

I also don't see a point in having a filter for language. It would be good if it would work, but it's too easy for someone to write b*tch when the meant to write butch. (grin)

All time move leader would be intersting. Of course no new person would not be able to get on the list (very easly) - but how about this:

    1) All time move leader
    2) 2003 Move leader
    3) 2004 move leader

.. That way a new user might make it on the 2004 list, and would be ready to make it on the 2005 list also!

Well if a board was made for the Moderators only (Like the "Members Only" board), then hopefully the Moderators of the public board can talk through and get some good guidlines to follow for all the board - that way the rules are the same everywhere.

Take me for example - I watch over all the Gammon board, the Battleboat boards, and the Amazons board. I told Fencer I would help watch the boards, and that is what I do. But other then knowing that a person is not suppose to use "bad words", there were really no rules or guidlines for me to follow.

What I follow is that I usually let some talk pass (It's a game site - people are suppose to have fun) - In all my times, I have deleted 1 post (forget why now), and I have edited 1 post for take out a bad word. But if other moderators where around, some might have ignored those 2 post, some might have deleted both and more, and yet others might have banned or hid others.

I just think some "overall" guidlines would help a lot.

    16. Juillet 2004, 17:01:14
    coan.net
O'yea... this is a game site - I keep forgetting that!

Moderators - I have requested this in the past, but I think a couple things really need to happen with the Moderators on these boards.

    1) A special "Moderator" board should be set up so all the Moderators of the public boards can discuss how (and who) things should be moderated.

    2) From that, I believe there should be some rules & guidelines that the Moderators follow when the moderate a public board.

As of now, Moderators are just given a board and they do whatever they want (Some very strict, some not as strict, so not strict enough). Maybe if we Moderators can get together (along with Fencer), we can come up with some overall guidlines for all the public boards on this site.

As it is now, rules in one public board is totally different then anotehr public board - and I think we need to get something guidelines for all Moderators to follow.

Stats I would like to see:
    1) Most post (of all time) made by a person

I had 690+ moves 2 days ago (almost past my 730 record) - but my wife made me leave and go with her somewhere so I could not make any more moves. :-(

.... and if I ever want to get over 1,000 - I think I'll need a team a friends who are all on at the same time making moves to get that high. (Don't want to tell you want I need to do to get over 2000!) :-)

To see how many boats YOU have left, you have to scroll down under the second board to see how many boats YOU have left.

The total above the top board is how many boats the opponent has left.

The first thing I do when I play crowded or race is place my mouse over one of my pieces to see if I have to move or take off the bar.

But I'm not a big checker person, so I'm not sure exactly what would be wanted. Took a look at IYT, and they have 22 different checker markers to choose from (that includes different type of markers and different sizes)

... plus it's not to difficult to put a symble for "parachute", and "queen", or something else if needed.

    coan.net
Well I originally thought that draws don't really count since it is not a win, (3-win match, not 6-draw match) but then again - why does it report the score as 0.0 if a draw would not be worth .5

Guess I'll wait to see what Fencer has to say about that.

I always took a 3-win match as you keep playing until someone gets 3 wins. If you keep getting draws, then you keep playing - since no one had has 3 wins.

MM - Well in BK2.0 it will be a little easier since the Fellowship list will be sorted by create date - instead of now where a new fellowship could be in middle of the list and hard to find. Once BK2.0 is here, just looking at the bottom of the list will show the newest fellowships.
