Any two-digit number can be constructed by our familiar decimal digits 0-9 as follows: 10xA+B, where A, B any decimal digits. What Ed asks us to do is take away the sum of the two digits, i.e. A+B. So we are left with: 10xA+B - (A+B) = 9xA Just look at all the positions divisible by 9 - all the same symbol, which also appears at the end of each cycle inside the crystal ball...
