But more to the point will it decide where links open. My PC seems to be totaly random as to if it uses Firefox or I.E.

I can guess that hotmail does it because hotmail & IE are both microsoft as far as i know.
I would think there must be a way to change the setting somewhere though.

Why when clicking on a link in an email, does it sometimes open in Firefox & sometime IE ?
Firefox is my default anyway, just sometimes it insists on using IE, i guess it must be in the link somewhere. Any ideas on how to stop it ?

If not there are quite a few good ones about, try Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic

Binabik: Have a look at Mozillazine Knowledge Base: Lost bookmarks , it may give you some help also on how to find them. According to this if it is caused by the installer not properly detecting all Firefox processes, they are not lost.

Hope it helps

Rose: I know, i have had the same when i crashed.
There are loads of Tab add-ons, double click to reload, all Tabs different colors, and the one i like is a permanent Tab add-on, which obviously does what it says, you can set as many Tabs as you like to be permanent. So i have 3 Brainking ones there all the time now.
Another great one is a Searchbar Autosizer box for Google, its only about 1cm wide now and grows the more you type in there & shrinks the URL box at the same time lol, way cool

Who says i spend too much time here ? lol
I just spent 4 hours going through and try alot of add-ons for Firefox, all 2,468 of them
There are some really neat ones to add along with the one that Mr, Shumway gave us earlier for resizing these message area boxes.

imsoaddicted: I asked hexkid about that. You mean when it loads a game page, it loads the left column, then the game board (which is active, so you can click on it) then loads the move list last, BUT when it does that it moves the game board to the left. Hence if you have already clicked on it, you make a different move. It is the most frustrating thing on Brainking, and is real bad when the site is busy.
He suggested something in his 'user scripting' Fellowship, but cant think what it was now, go look lol

p.s. it does the same on every page if you notice, here its left column, then these message boards, last the right hand column which the compresses the whole page.

hexkid found it as he wanted to do the same, they may have the answer to your other question on more Tabs at the same Forum, or i guess you could post there and get an answer.

King Reza: I guess i have nothing to lose, if i cant get it working. I may lose all the music files on there i guess. The one weird thing is when i had 98 on here and was going to go over to XP, i stored all my stuff on there (my briefcase & documents ets...) it worked fine then. Oh well, i will try and put XP on there tomorrow.

8. Octobre 2006, 21:04:56

I know its weird. Like i said i have used this other hard disk before when i was using 98 2nd edition, then when it was about half full it starting playing up, telling me it wasnt there and re-configure the disk as its doing now. The system was quite old, but it run great apart from that so i just took that disk out. Now i have XP i thought i would try it again, but nothing. It has to be the disk i guess.

Sujet: Re:
King Reza: I thought that as well. Windows XP does not like that LOL, it jump out of windows and comes up with a BIG screen ERROR, about doing a memory dump etc.... if the error continues please......

8. Octobre 2006, 19:49:33
MadMonkey
Well, i turned off, plugged the new drive in, made sure it was jumped to slave. PC booted up and first thing it did was re-configure the disks. It said:

Disk 3: CD-ROM Disk 4: CD-ROM

So it had lost Disk 1: MAIN C Disk, that was fine before i turned PC off and had not picked up the New Disk.
I checked in BIOS, but obviously it could not tell me anything because according to it there were only 2 Disk drives on the system.
So i switched off, unplugged the New Disk and it re-configured back to:

Disk 1: Main Disk Disk 3: CD-ROM Disk 4: CD-ROM

so all was fine again. I have tried it a couple more times, taking the IDE cable out, repluging the hard disks in a different order, checking the jumpers, but no good. I still cant see what the Bios is up to as everytime i plug the new drive in, it loses that and the main drive.

King Reza: I will check that now, as i am having something to eat, give me a reason to log off. I can get into Set-up fine, thats F10 on this Compaq.

Thanks for the help, lets have a look.

And todays problem is....
I have have a semi-new 20GB hard drive that used to be in my PC, but i took it out ages ago. It was only used for storage. Several times this week i have tried to put it back in, but if i do when i boot up and the system re-configures all the drives to except it, it does the opposite. It not only ignores it but also ignores my Main C drive and tells me i only have 2 drive a CD and a DVD, so no hard drives at all & no operating system lol.
If i unplug it and reboot, there is my old C drive and all is ok. So what is the matter with this drive ? Why is it doing this ? The Jumpers are set Master(C) and Slave(new disk) as they were when it used to be in my system.
Its a puzzle....

I downloaded the free one from Kerio a few months ago and it has been fine. I have run 'shieldUP' and it told me my PC was totaly secure. All of a sudden i have had these messages comming through.

Someone from 208.51.89.181, port 1027 wants to send UDP datagram to port 1027 owned by 'Distributed COM Services' on your computer.

c:\windows\system\lexpps.exe OR c:\windows\system\rpcss.exe

I dont mind the firewall letting me know about them as they are .exe files, BUT the question is that should they be allowed through or not as they are part of the window/system ?

hey Backoff, i knew what a .dll file was, i often get an error message in IE with them in it, but normaly tells me which one .dll file it is :o)
Then i just type the error into google LOL

If so it should tell you what .dll file it is.

I think i am going to have to start work on building a new one to be honest. This one is a Compaq (though i have got a few other base units here lol) and a nightmare to work on, although i must say it has been great the 3 years i have had it, and has been vastly upgraded. I think its just got to big for itself ROFL. Just one problem - money :(

19. Juin 2004, 21:09:07
MadMonkey
Well i have tried every possible combination with various different results from just have 1 HD, 2HD, no Roms, 1 Rom, 2 Roms LOL. Even at one point told me i had an invalid system disk and put in a new one (so i used Go-Back to revert back to earlier).
Well i now have it set is:

IDE1 MB - old HD (master) - new HD (slave)
IDE2 MB - CD/RW (cable select) - DVD/RW (cable select)

Have to admit i am lost. System is running (well doesn't appear to be freezing now) BUT the disk still spins (or does something anyway lol) every now and again.

I have not tried to use either ROM drive though. Just wait and see i guess, but i presume the CD/RW one will give the problem if i try.

19. Juin 2004, 18:22:04
MadMonkey
ok - thanks, i will have a play in a bit and let you know.
So is what you are saying is that each cable should have a Master, well i know the IDE1 should for you MAIN drive.
Got me thinking now, this CD drive was a new one put in about 18 months ago, while machine was still on warrenty. He may have done it wrong then.
So both IDE's need a MASTER - OK :-)

19. Juin 2004, 18:10:50
MadMonkey
I am lost now - odd eh.
Do i play around with the jumpers or not ? If so which ones whould i changes to what ? Should adding that new HD on IDE1 mean i have to change jumpers on the cd rom drives ?
Sorry to be a pain Backoff, but if i can get some stuff of this disk and onto another, its just going to pack up, like it keeps trying to LOL

19. Juin 2004, 16:46:50
MadMonkey
Thats how they are set, both on CS, so the DVD/RW is the MASTER, but its not set as it ?

19. Juin 2004, 16:43:20
MadMonkey
But i have NEVER had a need to touch the jumpers on either of them?

19. Juin 2004, 16:29:48
MadMonkey
hmmmm thats interesting, just taken cover back off (Backoff LOL). I have never touched jumper settings on DVD/RW or CD/RW, but they are both set the same anyway ?

19. Juin 2004, 16:19:39
MadMonkey
Dam, put the cover back on now LOL.
IDE1 must be, comes from the board to Main Drive (C:) then onto the 2nd new drive.
IDE2 comes off the board into CD player then to DVD as it always has.
There is no other spare slot to put as drive.

19. Juin 2004, 16:08:42
MadMonkey
Backoff: I tried a few times, just re-booting. Sometimes it would see the cd rom and sometimes it would not. Now i have taken the extra HD out, all is fine :-(

Sujet: Re: PC problem update
OK - last try :(

I took out the 20.0 GB Hard Drive out (that i had installed as a slave for storage 2 days ago) to see what would happen then. NOW everything is working fine again. So we are left with the question:

What is causing an extra Hard drive to conflict with my CD player and freeze my PC up every other minute for 1 to 2 seconds.
As far as i know all jumpers are set correct, everything is plugged where it should be. It must be something simple. I can not be the only person on here tryig to get 2 Hard drives and 2 CD drives (1 DVD & 1 CD) on the same machine.
