Nothingness: Looking at your current games, I guess you will still be playing in 2014.
A Black Rook account too! You could gift it / lend it out for your period of absence. On your return you would the be able to admire the improved stats of your account :)
Joking aside, all the best for 2013 and your New Years resolution!
As of 2013 I will have to announce that I will be giving up gaming for the foreseeable future. I need to focus more on my marriage and family than I do gaming. Gaming had been a huge part of my life for the last 20 years and its about time to set it aside to work on other more important things. My gaming focus the past few years has been very poor, i do not like doing things half way, its 100% or nothing. once I finish up my current games I will be leaving here till further notice. I will not be starting any new games. thanks for the fun times.
I think you can save some time, perhaps a lot of time, by not setting it up as a single tournament.
If you set each section (and round) separately than you can start, for example, round 2 once the round 1 sections are decided instead of having to wait for every game to complete.
Chaos: No vacation. Fischer clock is defined by three parameters:
Time - specifies a time for all game moves in days and hours which is set for each player when the game starts. When a player makes a move, the elapsed time from the last move of the opponent is subtracted from this value. If the time drops to a zero, the player loses by a timeout.
Bonus - the number of days and hours which is added to the player's time left value each time he makes a move.
Limit - the maximum time left value for this game which cannot be exceeded using the Bonus feature.
so 36hr / 24hr/ 3days means - you have 36 hours to move. - every time you move, 24 hours is added to your current clock time - a maximum of 3 days can be built up on you clock, which gives you 3 days to move.
Just today the (hopefully) final round of Open Espionage League Brain prize Tourney (start april 2010) has started. I don't know if I feel like starting a new tournament, I don't believe in 'fast' anymore. Fisher's clock stil allows for vacations, right?
i currently have a faulty saved position where im missing bomb...i kept it b/c it was a glitch i could use as a distraction... but i never used it. probably never will
Sujet: Re: System looses my position continously!?
Aganju: Yes, I am a fan of random placement, and just keep clicking it until I get one that makes me happy, then make a few "tweaks" to it. I'm almost positive there are no problems with modifications when using that method.
Sujet: Re: System looses my position continously!?
rod03801: understood. I might actually go for the solution proposed below by 'cookie monster' (I thought it is 'vegetable monster' now??), because I'm afraid someone is willing to put the effort in to find my starting position from last game and track my moves and gain a significant advantage. (not that it would be needed at my current level of play - you can still win easily against me if you know a bit what you do)
Sujet: Re: System looses my position continously!?
Aganju: Yes, it SHOULD. (I would think so anyway). But I haven't used the editors in several years. I was just proposing a possible "work around", that would be easier than starting from scratch.
I have no idea on the technical issues encountered here, but I will put in a plug for random start positions. I play by setting my base and bombs and, usually one or two spies in the front row and one or two sappers in the back row and then 'randomly place remaining pieces'. It takes less than 10 seconds to get going.
I doubt it's visible any more a IYT, but there was a game played there between pcron and Ruth that highlighted the dangers of saved positions. pcron apparently used a saved start position and Ruth apparently knew which one. :)
Sujet: Re: System looses my position continously!?
rod03801: yes that works, but I would have to overwrite or save the changed position every time. It should work without that, right? And the really strange thing isthat it seems to work, but the game comes back to me blank after several hours only.
Sujet: Re: System looses my position continously!?
Chaos: I mean that I move two or three pieces around, for example take two out and place them switched. I typically do that, so opponents cannot check earlier games to see whee my headquarters is.
Sujet: Re: System looses my position continously!?
modifié par rod03801 (23. Novembre 2012, 15:01:04)
Chaos: I imagine it means he moved one of his preplaced pieces.
Aganju, how about if you handle it slightly differently. Go into the Editor, and change it (your "slight modification", and save THAT, and then try to use THAT as your placement? A little of a pain, but it MIGHT work.
Anyone aware of this problem? 1. I load an existing saved position 2. I modify it slightly 3. I submit my move Everything looks good, the game is shown as it is my opponents turn. But - some hours later - the game is back in my list, with no position, and I have to do it all over again! I have tried five times for one game, I cannot get it to work. It always comes back to me after some hours with no position.
I'm going to put up some cash and meteorites once we get to a certain number of players. Each group winner will get a prize and the further you progress the bigger the prize.Come on come all-not necessary to join the FB group I should think but you know the old saying about curiousity and the cat
Eric Hanson is in-there's a new face .Rip Washington has been invited-he did accept my friend request earlier.I think he was one of the ones on the old yahoo/msn photo group. He hasn't played on IYT in a year--come on fellow sab/esp players, lets get a massive tourny rumbling
took a notion and created a FB group for Sabotage/Espionage players .Saw that Rip Washington aka Saboteur had a FB link in his profile as I was perusing an opponents setups.Have sent him a friend request.Playing some decent games on IYT at the min so will invite all opponents. It's a good platform for posting pics and possibly links to business websites and the like.Anyway, not everyones cup of tea but you can create a FB profile specifically for the group if you're concerned about privacy issues.Could be some fun http://www.facebook.com/groups/272272279545343/
I was checking out if Resher and TheBlackKnight still played espionage (that was the main idea of my tournament, to get new talent into the League), and found out I'm still in a tournament dating 2010, waiting for the next round. Completely forgotten about it! Strange you cannot find it anywhere, should be nice to have it mentioned on your main page. Hmmm, I haven't played espionage for some while, can't seem to focuss on the game and play lousy, have to get back on track before the next round starts! Well, maybe that will not be untill 2013 ;)
Well, I came here because most of you league guys switched to bk due to the deactivation of the discussion boards on IYT. Since then it has become very "unchallenging" on IYT. It took me some time to ease into the purely technical interface here, as well. Meanwhile, I see no reason to switch back anymore neither to play on both sites.
That said, let's see IYT as kind of a bootcamp! And if a new talent is ready to challenge the 20 world champs, BK is the place to be. ;-)
cookie monster: Yes, following games on two sites is beyond my current capacity and motivation.
That said, even distinguishing between the amateur and professional world championship events on this site can easily be mistaken by some! At least that ambiguity did not arise at IYT. :-E)
I don't think setting up custom tournaments here is a big advantage in sabotage/espionage simply because of the length of the games and the fact that BK tournaments are limited by the longest game in each round. I.e., we would still benefit from running tournaments as we did at IYT.
That said, the custom time controls offered here, plus the forums make this a preferable location.
Personally, I've been timing out of a number of games here lately due to inattention and won't be adding any IYT events anytime soon.
Chaos: Agree that the league doesn't really exist here, well not in the same form. At IYT, there was a need for some, and in many cases, considerable coordination to promote and run tournaments. That work has been made redundant through the flexibility of BK in being able to create ones own tournaments, e.g. Nothingness and Sandoz recently had some popular tournaments, and you had a beginners one a while ago. Who won?
Yes, I can remember when I first joined BK, that the interface was rather unwieldy, and that was without poking at all the settings behind the scenes! However, like anything new, it just took a little while to get used to.
The 2012 World championship has already started, and indeed, I still have games running in the 2011 championship. So we won't know who the 2011 champ is until 2013
The link to the 2012 Open Fast is Championship world BK 2012 As you can see, the competition is strong, though progression to final has been made easier through your absence. There are championship tournaments for all the espionage variants, as well as all the other games on site.
SL-Mark: Your answer is almost the same as my answer to him, but I didn't want to speak for others, that's why I put the question out here. The League doesn't really exist here either, unfortunately. Could you give me the link to the 2012 Championship? I must say I had already forgotten about it, ahem... Quad doesn't like the interface here at BK. I don't like it either I must confess. And I don't like the overload of tournaments.
Hi all, at IYT someone approached me to ask me about the League. He wants to set up a competition at IYT and wanted to know about the League, what worked and what not. I tried to answer as good as I could, adding I thought it would be hard with so many quitting/leaving to BK.
He asked if there were players here who were willing to return if there was a serious competition going at IYT. I can't answer for you, so I'll ask the question here.
oh the fun we're having ,all 41 of us reminiscing about old times and sharing that old sabotage picture album from back in the old days , Hildebrand in his clown getup--what a lark -the wine and beer is flowing-miss you all--Go Ireland!!
Currently I play 12 games in about 5 to 6 different tournaments. What happens if my memberships runs out in a couple of days? Will most of the tournament games be considered as a loss? Due to the fact that as a non-paying menber I'm not allowed to play more than one tournament at a time. Or will I be able to finish those tournament games as a non-paying member? Does anyone know? Thanks for your replies.
