bwildman: He's most likely talking individual moves, and then only from the "losing move" they had been discussing. That way, 131 sounds about right.
There were 148 total moves in the game (74x2) and 131 moves back must have been the move in question.
Grim Reaper: how many possible outcomes are there in a game of checkers?
I only ask you this, because I know you have written checker programs for several years now.
Grim Reaper: I can see one move ahead maybe..so what do I know? LOL. But I have played Ustica 100 times in the last 4 years with zero wins. As I said it looks like a close game.
The piece that would have moved from 24 to 28 is now off the board, and cannot influence the play whatsoever.
That subgame, by defintion, cannot possibly occur in this game, since it is impossible to create any such position from the parent game with an extra piece on the board.
Excuse me but that's a total nonsense what you wrote. I want to discuss a theoretical game that has absolutely no connection to the game these two are playing since it's already a completely different game. All I want to figure out is if Trice would have lost the game if he had moved 9.b6-a7. That's it. Absolutely no connection whatsoever to the ongoing game.
Pedro Martínez: It seems hard to discuss the move that was not made without bringing in the move that was and how future moves were/are impacted by that.
Purple: I'm talking about a move that was NOT played. Trice didn't move that way. I don't care about the game they play right now, I want to discuss the "24-28" move.
Pedro Martínez: If the chat gets more detailed and someone suggests a course of action for a next move or even a strategy then someone could yell "foul." Analyze away..I do..but be careful about the posting because we don't want to provide excuses. The game is one on one.
Take a chance? Translation. Lie about the move and see if your opponent believes you.
Sorry pal, one look at "24-28" (by the way, why did you say that instead of refer to the letters on the board on BrainKing? Oh, that's right, computer programs have numbers on them, don't they?) and I knew that was a losing move.
Maybe not 50/50, but you're not allowing for human error. Ratings are only a guide. I've beaten people in games with much higher ratings than me - and people with much lower ratings than me have won games after I made a bad move. It happens.
