Board for everybody who is interested in BrainKing itself, its structure, features and future.
If you experience connection or speed problems with BrainKing, please visit Host Tracker and check "BrainKing.com" accessibility from various sites around the world. It may answer whether an issue is caused by BrainKing itself or your local network (or ISP provider).
Fencer, could you please remove all my existing games without affecting my BKR? I had finished all my games with these opponents and will be leaving on extended holiday shorty.
Well there are many different cost to running a game site like this.
1. Hardware - you can look on BrainKing.info to view what hardware is being used now (which is actually too small of machines to run this game site.... but will give you an idea of what it would cost to get hardware like that and/or better.
2. Connection - you need to have the game site connected to the internet with a quick connection (T1)
3. Software - Software that will be on the game site (OS, database, etc...)
4. Programmer (or programming skills) - you will need to know how to program and/or hire someone who can do it for you... someone to "make" the games and trouble shoot them.
5. Database Admin - either you need to know how to run the database, or hire someone who knows how.
6. Other support staff. For a site like BrainKing, Fencer takes care of most of this - but if this site was to grow even larger, sooner or later he would have to get someone to help answer request, e-mails, etc...
... those are the cost that come to the top of my head - I'm sure there are others, I just can't think of them right now.
Filip
Can you please remove without penalty or advantage to BKR the three ches club running tourneys and all open games associated with them. I will restart the opens afresh when the site has settled down again.
Jason - you should resign all your 5-in-a-line games against me as I cant remember you ever beating me LOL. Fencer, can you keep the game suspension on for a while longer yet - i'm struggling to get thru all my games that are "Nil". Cheers Pal.
I came back to check on things, and sucky ducky...looky here! I had finished all my games last month before I left BK, and I return to find a whole set! Reminds me of the early days of IYT....lol
Anyway, since I only play backgammon, I'll be at DailyGammon.com if anyone want to pick up a game. I play under the name picklez...
Fencer et al...wish you all well with this site...
I have had more than one game per opponent, I can't remember which ones I've won and which ones I've lost...Basically, I ask my opponents what they want. Most just want to finish the game (most of my games only had 5-6 moves in them).
well Jason....seems to me those people that lost...are hoping to win!! so,I'm making it easy on them...by resigning all my games and starting over with fresh ones.
what would happen if we just refrain from plying these games that come back to haunt us from the past here.. i mean, we already won or lost them and i really can't see replaying the "same" games over again.. OR can we (somehow) just DELETE them, without getting a penalty put against you (your bk ratings) for it..?? then we could start up again with new games.. shoot, i had like 5 tourney games going before the crash.. they just disapeared and that is what i was looking forward to, coming back here from the crash.. :(
How 'bout it Fencer.. can you install a "delete button" with no penalties for us (if we so choose to take that route)..?? :)
just curious
I dont know whose board it was but there was a discussion board that had computer queries and answers and was of great interest (to me anyway)
Will it be resurrected???
Well give us at least a few days warning when the time will be turned back on - I have aprox 400 games with 0 time, and with the site going slower then normal, plus less time myself - it will take me awhile to get my games back to where they were a few days ago! :-)
But did you say we can get our bkr restored? my backgammon rating is the only one I'm concerned with...My chess ratings are mediocre at best...especially playing the likes of Danoschek and Fencer!! not to mention several other exceptional players here!! :)
I scrapped ALL mine today, and have now started some new ones, and I must admit I am much happier for it, I can play without worrying about my moves? (did I move here the last time? etc)
And erm.....I do think you did win them anyhow bwildman LMAO
Well Dano...I'm with Aragon...just resigning all these games and gunna start fresh...been 2 days and so far the only resignation I've recieved is Aragons...(course I think I won them anyway!! LOL) j/k.....but its seems the only way to make any sense.
in a two-games match I should resign the first game
that I lost - is a resign only inflicting the one game or,
will I lose the whole match then like it would happen at iyt ? ~*~
i don't have the time to do this right now i'll get it together this evening...has fencer actually made this re-instating the ratings statement somewhere .....i'd like to read it and be confident i'm not just giving these games away...
High Tide, the original server problems still remain. You will continue to get the white screen when the server is full until a new server is in place. And I should imagine people are spending longer than usual here to sort things out. I know I am :o)
Well there you go then, simply resign all these 'GroundHog Day' games of yours, and then send Fencer the BKRs that you recorded. You will be back in the top ten and starting anew :)
i was just reading some of the other comments here and who says he'll correct the ratings..????.....i have most of mine written down....i could even tell you who i played to get there....i don't play alot of games here since the last time this happened..probably won't start any new ones either...hey...i don't have to i can just keep playing the same ones over and over...
If you remember what they were then send them to Fencer, he will change them for you :o)
I for example, took note of mine, then resigned every game that I had previously completed (won or lost) and then got the BKRs put back, so in a sense I am starting a fresh (new games only) with my BKRs as they stood??
read it yesterday thanks , i also asked how bkrs can be changed in a fair way , there isnt one if my bkrs were put to where they was before the crash , i t wouldnt be exactly fair because i may still have games going which could still alter the outcome , but if people start altering there bkr i will want mine put back too ,
i just don't see the sense in having a rating system at this site...at all......every few months it's crashing.....i don't know if this has anything to do with the reason but it always corresponds to when i win a few games and finally make it in the top 10 at a game....then i drop back down...twice now it's happened in the last 2 months...i'm even playing the same games that he backed up the last time it did this...they're just backed up farther to give them a better chance at winning.....i think it's pre-planned to manipulate the ratings..
Well I don't think anything else is actually being restored. What we see is what they were able to get back.
BUT - what I think fencer is doing is if a user knows what ratings they had before the crash, he is changing (restoring) the rating to what the user says it was.
... and possible if a user knows the outcome of certain games or tournaments, Fencer may also be changing (restoring) those also???? I'm not really sure. Hopefully once Fencer logs back on, he will let us know what he is doing - and if he would like us users to slow down with new games/tournament, or to start going full speed again! :-)
