It really stinks that (I) Kiwiyeti is holding up this tournament: All about Pente! and (II) that Fencer won't change things so that tournaments advance once a round winner is determined, even if all games are not complete. Slow play is fine, meaninglessly holding up a tournament is not.
MidnightMcMedic: Thanks, MMM, but last time I posted there I got banned. Let's just say that due to the head mod there, the board is not worth reading, IMO, and leave it at that. I see now, that if I change the selection, I can see info (or the price at least) for a lifetime membership. Perhaps the Paid membership page could use an update to make that membership level a little more visible. ;-)
First, I realize this isn't quite the right board, but...
I was wandering atround BK and I noticed that Tanein's rook is black. A click on her profile revealed that she is a rook forever! How cool!! How does one become a lifetime rook member?
Um, it's really sweet that you are all resigning your games, but is everyone going to do that? He'll win the tournament and the 6-month membership. With all respect, does that make sense? Or else you'll have one clod who does not resign and takes the section (or tournament) win in a most unsportsmanlike way. Please don't flame me. I'm just looking at the bigger picture.
Could anyone who still has active games in the Cardhu team Pente tournament please make an effort to make moves in those games more frequently and finish up those games. The players in the second round have already been determined and there are just a handful of games remaining that are holding up round two.
Just thinking here. If the lower seated player is to advance in the case of a draw, what happens if Al & Bob are playing a tournament match and Al is higher at the start, but then Al loses a regular game to Carl and his rating goes down to below what Bob's is. Al's was higher at the start of the match, but Bob's was higher at the end. So who advances?
Sorry, I don't have a good solution to this, just thought it should be brought up.
rabbitoid: That still leaves a problem in games line Pente where P1 enjoys a strong advantage. For average players, this doesn't really matter, but just as in Chess where strong play on both sides results in a draw, strong play by both sides will produce a win for P1.
BIG BAD WOLF: Is it probable that there are multiple rounds in most tournaments? I would say that there are probably are, or maybe not. Let's multiply some numbers together and calculate the probability.
Mathematically, there is no way for GuineaPig´s Club & HOME to each finish anywhere other than first place in their respective sections in the current anti-chess team tournament. Why not start round two now? Why make us wait??
eagle eye: You can make it start by changing the time to yesterday (or 15 minutes ago, etc.). Give the system 10 minutes to catch it and it should begin.

BIG BAD WOLF: BK is already doing all the checking it needs to. It just needs to be smarter about it's decisions...unless BK is written is a poor way currently, whick I hope it's not.
There has to be a check now everytime a (tournament) game is completed to see if the players involved have completed all their games. If they have, certain things happen (declaring winners, starting next rounds, etc.) Instead of checking to see if all games are complete, and then doing the things needed, BK should be smart enough to tell if a section win is assured and perform the next tasks right then, even if all games are not complete.
Even the wrost game site I know of, IYT, has this feature. If they can do it, BK can. ;-)
Why won't you change the system so that upper rounds of tournaments start as soon as the outcome of the previous round is assured? For example, in this tourney, http://brainking.com/en/TeamTournaments?tri=52&trnst=10 the teams seeded first in both brackets will advance, even if they each lose every remaining game. There is no reason to make us sit around and wait for the next round to start. PLEASE, please, please make it so that upper rounds start as soon as they can.
Andre Faria: And the winner has already been determined! Fencer is unwise for not upgrading the system so that in tournaments like this winners are declared as soon as they are mathematically assured, even if all games are not finished. Even ****** IYT has that.
Lady Temper: New timing settings have been added to BrainKing, so tournaments in the future should not have this problem, but I don't think there's much you can do now but wait it out.

Pedro Martínez: But if you compare losses, it doesn't make sensse. If we use the section I mentioned a few posts down, JackS & I each ended up with only one loss and everyone else had more. Clearly we will finish 1-2. JackS lost to me, so he lost to either the first or second place guy. I, on the other hand, lost ot a lesser ranked player. when you look at it that way, it seems that JackS should advance.
S-Bs work when everyone does not play everyone else. For example, it would work in the NFL where every team does not play every other team. It is essentially a measurement of strenght of schedule. But since it's used here at BK inside sections, where we all play each other, it is meaningless.
I think S-Bs stink and should be eliminated. If two players tie with the same win/loss record, they both should move on to the next round. How do others feel?
Backoff: That only happens when the top two players both lose to the same lower rated player, which is not the case here. He lost to me and I lost to someone else.
I think S-Bs should be eliminated and players who tie for section wins with identical win/loss records should both move on. Since we're not doing tournaments with set brackets when it starts, like professional tennis tournaments or the NCAA basketball tourneys, an extra player (or players) advancing won't affect things much, but will make tourneys more enjoyable and fair (IMO).
furbster: I agree, the system should not let you sign up if you are over 1500 (or whatever the limit is) and it should check again when it starts. This should be done automatically.
SunFire: BeaverBoy brought it up, then he and shagglbrox accused me of being wrong. Obviously my last post proved that I was right. But perhaps we can close the book on IYT now.
The bottom line is that ties are ok, if a game, match, or tournament is played to a tie, but not when the tying players never face each other. Also, if a tournament is co-won, there should be something indicating so.
BeaverBoy: You are wrong, Beaverboy. Tournaments at ITY do not always go until there is a winner. I know there are tournaments listed in their history that have two winners. If I knew the date of one, I would post it here, but offhand, I do not. I will try and go back and find one when I get a chance so you'll have proof.
PS: 3 rounds with just 2 players ain't any big deal. I've gone nine rounds there more than once. And I know I've gone at least five with just one other player. ;-)
