emmett: I totally agree with you. I think some people think that being a Captain means a lot of work, which of course it does not
The Big Boss should have all tools open to him anyway. I mean, he can accept any challenge anyway if he sees it waiting. It just seems silly he can not send out a challenge because there is no Captain.
I am lucky in the Madhouse really, with so many Teams, it is rare to find one without a Captain
MadMonkey: That is just like the Big Boss taking on captain on all teams. I saw that with a fellowship recently, and the Big Boss gets overwhelmed with many teams to answer and challenge for, even up to two or three dozen teams. I wonder why so many players on a team with no captain refuse to take on even one captainship. I recently took on several teams as captain, even teams I was not playing on before, just because of the apathy among the players. It is hard to understand teams of five or six players and no captain.
Teams that do not have a Captain can not send out a challenge match In any other Team that has a Captain the Big Boss can send out challenges, which is right as they should have access to all Fellowship tools. So why, just as a Team does not have a Captain can the Big Boss not send out challenges ? I only noticed this really as the Team that has no Captain CAN be challenged by another Fellowship, but it will have to be up to the Big Boss to accept or reject it. Second problem, the Big Boss will not know they have been challenged, unless they happen to be looking at there Fellowship page or get a PM (like i just did, thanks labbeda).
Could it be made so the Big Boss also send out challenges for Teams that have no Captain and also could the challenge automatically be sent to them if there is no Captain
I would like to see a "Private Tournament list", like our "Friends list", where we can add players for future private tournament invitations. Often I play certain fast-playing amiable players of the sort that I would like to invite to private tournaments. It would be nice to be able to add them to this sort of list. As it is now, it is very time-consuming to personally invite certain players to a private tournament. Also, it is impossible to remember all of the potential players that one would like to invite. An option when creating a private tournament could be: "Invite the members of my Private Tournament list". Then you could check the boxes next to the names of the individuals that you would like to invite, so it is more of a one-step process..... Under each player's profile, where it says "Add this person to my Friends list", we could have a box saying "Add this person to my Private Tournament list."
Could we have the possibility to hide ponds in the main page, like it happens with games
Is it possible to show, on a player's profile page, the number of own turn games, next to total started games (like 25/73), sometimes I go to my opponent's page, just to see if it is expected that (s)he makes the next move quickly, or not, and to know that I have to load the page with ALL the started games (it could save bandwidth, in a case like 100/3500 games)
O čem je toďten plk: Favourite boards & Fellowships
On the right site my main page I have Favourite boards & Fellowships. I'm a member about 40 felloships. Between Friends online & Fellowships I have about 50 favourite boards (40 from fellows & 10 from main discusion board). It is possible to make RED NUMBER (new messages) in Fellowships column?
On the public waiting games board, is there anyway that the games in Itallics ( bkr not being calcualted for that game) can be in a different colour than blue.
AbigailII: I'm not saying that features can't be discussed on the main BK site. I'm just saying that it makes much more sense if a comment is placed next to the post that originated it. If that post is on the BK.info site, then it makes much more sense to me, that those interested in the subject, will expect comments to that post at that site.
But I'm not making a fuss out of it... I was just expressing my personal opinion. As far as I'm concerned, you can comment BK.info's posts wherever you see fit (and the moderators allow )
pauloaguia: I tried to sign up, but failed. I didn't bother to try again. It's weird enough that a blog with important information about this site is on a different site, but if we also have to discuss it on a different site, it's even weirder. I fail to see what the advantage is; perhaps there's a hidden one for Fencer, but there's none for the user.
redfrog: Having different groups within the friends list would be a nice addition - since as a global moderator, I will also sometimes put "trouble makers" on my friends lists so I know when they are online.
As a side note, if you ever want to know if a global moderator is online - check out the staff page that is linked at the bottom of every page: http://brainking.com/en/Staff A green dot is above a picture of someone who is on-line. Of course the last 2 on the list are not English global moderators. Liquid is basically behind the scene and helps take care of the servers and does not get involved with the boards much at all. But is a quick way to see which globals are on-line.
Andersp: It would be great, if the comments on brainking.info could be integrated into a special DB an vice versa - that could draw much more attention to discussions about blog posts, but still keep them at the blog.
Maybe that will be part of the new Blog system that Fencer wants to develop. I think it will be highly integrated to BrainKing.com, that's why he wants to make his own..
I did cut my friends list some time ago because it was no help to have that many players under "friends online" - especially as the sorting by last action time makes the order virtually random.
Andersp: the blog already allows you to post comments, you can even read their RSS feed. Why create a board to post about a bunch of unrelatd topics where if you want to read the main thread you have to go to other site?
If only authentication was integrated between both sites maybe there would be more comments...
Ok - the friends list - a great tool - a great feature - love it love it love it - here is a possible upgrade - just like a friend or buddy list for an instant messenger - how bout creating seperate lists for your friends - i like to know when members of my f/s are online - i also have other groups of friends - i also have the global mods on so i know who i can go to at any certain time - but really- that makes for a pretty long list .... and it would be great to have links to different groups of friends so i could pick which list is displayed on the main page.... does that make sense?
juls31: Its ok when a Team only has one Knight or Bishop in, and not bad if you have plenty of players, it then does not show the Captain a box to sign you up for a Team Tournament. But when you only have 8 or less (as the Tournaments are now) players, a Captain has no way of knowing if you are playing in a Fellowship challenge match (AND neither do you). In your profile, you can see what Team Tournaments you are signed up for or playing in, BUT unless you look at all your games there is no way of knowing about Fellowship challenge matches. There must be an easier way for members and Captains for find out who is playing where and who is not. Maybe, in the Teams, it could flag you with a cross to say that you are not eligible. I think all players should have flags to say if they are or not, rather than leaving a Team, BUT could be automatic (by the brainking system) for Bishops & Knights to let everyone know
AbigailII: I thought about that but there isn't really enough information in the RSS feed to make the decisions. Besides, how many rules would I have to write to do this? Email and tagged games still make the most sense me.
I had that idea a few weeks ago. But I wouldn't have time to entertain it:
To have a board inside f/s which is public, means that everyone can read it. The writers would be only the ones of the fellowship. That would be kind of a radio. Maybe some moderator-functions could be added, that some people could temporary join that radioboard for instant interviews with player, little reports about BK and all the ideas that might come, sounds and so on. If I would be you Filip I would ask for a concession-fee, the key how you like it, partially for you, partially for the BB of the radioboard. It could allow some creative minds to get their membership in, and users could support their favored radios with some simple clicks.
pauloaguia: You could just set it up such that you get notifications for all your games, and have your mail or RSS client filter out all games you aren't interested in. ;-)
MadMonkey: That's okay...but the crux of my request is that I want to know when my opponent has moved without having already thought to go to the site to check it out.
rod03801: In hexkid's greasemonkey script we had a button in each game which was 'Set as priority'. Then any interesting games, Pawn game, games people are waiting for to finish etc... would automatically show at the top of your list OR goto next priority game. Most useful
I have noticed that when I use RTE then my computer becomes slower. Ad-Aware SE Personal shows 5...12 Neglitible objects MRU List. When I remove those object, it becomes normal again. Is here a correlation?
Ahh, nice idea. That sort of would tie in from my request 6 or 7 months ago. I would like the ability to flag certain games. Then, have an option added to the "Move and go to...." menu, which would be "Move and go to next flagged game". I personally would like to flag especially interesting games, Fisher clock games and games against pawns. (Well, I guess it wouldn't be necessary for me to flag Fisher clock games since there is already a "Move and go to next Fischer Clock game")
Fencer didn't say no to it back then, but he didn't exactly say yes either! LOL.. so I figure since it could tie in with this request, I would repeat it.
jryden: I certainly like this option. I can think of three particular uses but I am sure there are more.
1. For Fischer clock games. At the beginning of the time control, I often do not notice if moves are made in these games and I end up not moving until there are less than 12 or so hours with a bonus of 3 hours.
2. Games with pawns or other people who might want to finish their games quickly for whatever reason. It is often difficult to remember all the games we have with pawns, but I know many players like to move as soon as possible in these games since pawns have game restrictions.
3. for tournaments. either to finish a tournament that is near completion (or game for that matter) or personally, I like to move earlier in prize tournament games since I have more interest in these games.
I would get use out of a feature that would send you an email with a game link whenever an opponent moves in a particular game. There could be a check box near each game board (or something) to indicate that you want notifications for this particular game.
This feature would be very useful for several reasons and you would like to know as soon as possible when you opponent makes a move:
1) When you have a game that is running low on time 2) If you a playing a particularly interesting game. 3) If others in a tournament are waiting for the game to complete.
Fencer, could we have a preview button added to out messages please. A lot of BB's send messages (silly spelling like i just did) & links etc.... out to all Fellowship members without being able to check them. It would be very helpful
pauloaguia: I've felt the same way about the http://brainking.com/en/GameRules page. The first times I got there to look for a particular game, I was at a bit of a loss. Now I understand the list's order better. With 104 games--and counting--supported, BK offers us an embarrassment of riches, as the saying goes.
With 104 games to choose from it's getting harder and harder to find a particular game whenever you have to do it from a combobox. Like the option of quick inviting a user to a game, or to choose a team in fellowships that have teams for most of the games.
Currently the list is sorted by category (though not with an obvious separator) and inside each category I think it's sorted by date the game was added to BK (the few exception, I think are Japanese Chess and Chinese chess that show up very high on the chess list though many other chess variants were created before those). The later someone joined the site, the less apparent this will be and it's actually a nightmare to navigate through the list since people simply have to look carefully at each item because there is no apparent order.
My request: - sort the games inside each category alphabetically. - add a void option in the combobox as separator for game categories. Something like:
------ Chess games ------ Amazon Chess Chess ... ------Checkers games ------ Czech Checkers Gothic Checkers ... ------ Other Games ------ Dice Poker Ludo Mancala ... ... ...
Eriisa: And the problem is although Fencers Team Tournaments show up in a players profile. Fellowship challenge matches do not. So if we have a Bishop or Knight playing in a Fellowship challenge they can not enter the Team Tournaments. If we could list whi challenge matches they were playing in there profiles, we could then try to get them finished before the Team ones start
Fencer, in a players profile we can list what Tournaments and Team Tournaments a player is playing in. It does not appear to pick up Fellowship challenge matches.
Could we have these listed as well please ?
At present when we try and enter a Team in a Team Tournament, if in includes Knights & Bishops that are playing in Challenge matches we are not allowed to sign up of course, BUT sadly there is no way to find out which Knight or Bishop is causing the problem, and then to find out which match is preventing them playing, and stopping us signing the Team up.
If we could do this we could then trying speed the relevant match up so they are free to play in the Team Tournaments
Triple Gammon is fun! So how about making some expansions of this game type:
Multi-Game Triple Gammon: Players play a n-game match-> the outcome of the match is the number of points each player get. So, if in a 3 game match player A scores one gammon and player B scores 2 games, then player A gets 3 points and player B gets 2 for that game.
Team matches triple Gammon style: Or even better: Team matches Multi game triple Gammon style.
