Do you miss something on BrainKing.com and would you like to see it here? Post your request into this board! If there is a more specific board for the request, (i.e. game rule changes etc) then it should be posted and discussed on that specific board.
Fencer I just read your autopasspost in your blog. Did i understand correct: If one player offers autopass and the other doesnt accept = no autopass for any of the players?
pgt: That's the spirit - I'm happy using Opera, you're happy with Firefox and somebody else is happy with IE. And it's nobody else's business! So let's play
mctrivia: If loading partially finished pages is the issue, people can try to change some options in Settings that reduce the page size. Like changing the number of games that can be displayed in the main page, or changing the number of posts per page in discussion boards to five. Smiles popup also comes to mind, although I'm not sure if IE preloads this one as well or not. Adds may also have something to do with it, not sure.
I have many of those things disabled / reduced and the site works blazing fast for me on IE too, just tryed to play a few games and each page took less than a couple of seconds to load. The fact that the pages display instantly even makes the illusion that the pages load faster than in Opera (it's just an illusion, the timing is the same and I still prefer Opera, anyways, since I have much more control on how the page shows up than in IE).
ßăķëď Äłáşķǻñ: About the only conclusion one can draw from this thread is that the "PC" stand for "PERSONAL computer", and that everybody seems to have their own pet way of doing things, which works for them. I'm happy, and hope everybody else is too. Sorry for stirring up a hornet's nest.
pgt: lol, i have a brainking nugget on my google ie7 toolbar that takes me straight to brainking sign in page... u sound like u never heard of it. go to google.com and download toolbar and get brainking link on your toolbar
pgt: i downloaded foxfire and it was slower for me here as loading pages. on foxfire, there is no toolbar botton for brainking, if there was maybe maybe i'd try it only for here on brainking to see but i don't think it would be in my best interest to do so... if fencer knows something i do not, maybe he could share it. ie7 has never been a problem for me.
pgt: i have a click botton on my toolbar on ie7 toolbar that gets me there in less than 2 seconds. all my toolbar bottons on ie7 toolbar with google ie7 toolbar work very fast, as my pages load fast here using ie7 also. i'm on dail up. but pages load fast, i'm able to click game click move and click to send
pgt: with ie7 i have all my bottons, with foxfire they have no bottons to any thing yet, i will use ie7, better for me. unless foxfire has a brainking botton for toolbar. then may use it only for brainking. i have never had a problem with ie7 loading ok full pages and i'm on dail up.
pgt: The ability to show half loaded pages is a definetly an advantage of Firefox. However you should never willingly restrict a popular browser from working.
Andersp: I used to use IE7, and decided to install Firefox one day when I had nothing else more important to do. Wow! Brainking suddenly went about twice as fast! Yesterday my wife opened IE, and without looking I opened up BK and wondered what had gone wrong with my computer and why everything was so slow. Switching back to Firefox fixed that very quickly.
Fencer, would it be possible to have a setting to swap the columns of options over to the other side. In other words the column that is now on the left, with Main page, New game, Waiting games etc.... to put it on the right, and Friends, Discussion Boards and Fellowship boards on the left. While you are playing your games the left hand column is always there (for what reason ??), yet virtually nothing in that column is important in your gaming as such (maybe messages). I think more people would prefer to see there friends online and any posts that have been made on boards rather than a list of options that are not really relevant. I hope you understand what i mean, even if you do not think its a good idea, it certainly makes more sense
O čem je toďten plk: Re: Placement of submit move.
Fencer: Well, I have the settings to have the move button directly below the game board, except the thing isn't.
There's the game board, then the name of the game (in big letters), the name of the opponent with all his icons, the time of his last move, my name, the time of my last move, the offer draw tick box, a message box (which I never use) to leave a message for my opponent - with caption, a message box (which I also never use) to leave myself a note - again with caption, and only then, a full screen size later, is the move button.
I hate to think where that move button is if I untick the "show move button right below game board" box.
BIG BAD WOLF: that is exactly what I would like to see also. Hot keys don't work for me as when I am playing on my Tablet I usually play with the keyboard not attached to the computer.
O čem je toďten plk: Re: Placement of submit move.
emmett: I use a laptop too. And a press of spacebar scrolls down the page (at least on Opera). PageDown should do the trick too. Rereading your post tells me I may have missunderstood. So, if what you want is to just press Enter when the page displays, without having to scroll down, then I guess all it takes is for Fencer to change the focus to the Submit Button when the page loads. Then, simply pressing Enter (or spacebar) would 'click' it. However, if implemented, I'd like this to be an option, since I like to use spacebar to scroll the page down...
Fencer: A lot of us use laptops, so there is no mousewheel.
Is it possible to have a hotkey, like "Enter" as an addition to the "Submit Move" button, so you don't have to move your button, but we can still move by pressing Enter (or maybe spacebar)?
mctrivia: I also would love to see a submit button option to appear above the game board - it would save time and make game-play a little quicker.
What I would like to see is an option in settings to have a "quick submit above board" option.
What that could do is place place the Move & Move and go to boxes above the board - with NO text box to write message.
But along with them also being at the top, keep them at the bottom like normal with the text box - so lets say we have the quick submit option to have them above the board, and we have a reason to write a message for this game, we can still scroll down and do that - but if not, we will know exactly where on the screen the move button will be - our mouse will already be positioned there while the page is loading since it is in the same exact place (rather then move - then wait for page to load - then scroll down - then find move button which could not be high or low on the screen depending on how much you scrolled - then finally hitting the move button.)
**edited to add: When I say above game board, I would like to see it right under the game title.
So on a page you would see "Game Type (show rules | discuss - xxx, xxx(x))" "Submit" "Submit and go to.."
Then under that, all the normal stuff - game chat, notes, opponenet info, game board, etc...
Andersp: I don't say that BrainKing won't work with IE. But if, in the future, an Internet Explorer specific problem occurs (and such problem doesn't happen on Firefox or other standard browsers), I won't spend too much time to solve it. There is no reason to support this Microsoft product. This is a good summary: Computers (Gordon Shumway, 2007-02-27 10:26:40)
Fencer Im well aware of how you prefer Firefox and often tells people "It works best in Firefox". But...question: Some people like IE and Netscape and have used them for years so, do you plan in the future to "adjust" BrainKing so it works as good in IE and Netscape as Firefox or must we change to FF to be able to use all features at 100% ?
O čem je toďten plk: Re: Placement of submit move.
mctrivia: Oh yes you are right, I missed that there was no submit button until the move was finished. Then I also second the motion to move it at the top.
O čem je toďten plk: Re: Placement of submit move.
Fencer: I usually have my browser set at 70% zoom for BrainKing so I don't have to scroll down all the time. And I still need to in some games (like ludo and jarmo, for instance).
O čem je toďten plk: Re: Placement of submit move.
nabla: With ludo even with my screen in portrait(which most people don't do ever) I still have to scroll to see the submit button. And I am only suggesting moving the submit button after you have already made your move. When 90% of the time you do not need to look at the board.
O čem je toďten plk: Re: Placement of submit move.
Fencer: It's not at all complicated, but it's slow! If the submit button were above the Message and Notes boxes, then for the 99% of time when there are no notes and no messages, the submit button would be right there, and there would be no need to wait for the screen to refresh before the scroll took effect. (Maybe this is not a problem in first-world countries like the Czech Republic with good broadband facilities, but we are not all so lucky)
O čem je toďten plk: Re: Placement of submit move.
Fencer: When on a small screen, it could happen that even with the smallest board size one has to scroll anyway, but I don't see how having the submit button on top would help ; then one would have to scroll in order to see the entire board. What about a bloody Javascript keyboard shortcut to submit the move ?
O čem je toďten plk: Re: Placement of submit move.
Fencer: I have "Show move buttons directly below game boards", and almost the smallest font size in Firefox, and I still need to scroll down for most of the games I play. What am I doing wrong?
Fencer: I can't help thinking that even if it LOOKS stupid, it would be a wonderful improvement. My most frustrating experience of Brainking is scrolling down to the "submit" button after making a move. I think that this suggestion is worth MUCH more than a
Would it be possible to move these off the main page sometime in the future ? maybe a link to the left coloum (with the option of putting them back on the main page for those who like them there ) It would save me having to scroll past that area hundreds of times a day.
maybe there is an option already to move them below your game list that i havent noticed .
There is a small link called "Test Mode" on the main page. It is in it's own column. There used to be three columns...now there is a fourth just for this link. It would be nice if this was in the "Middle" column instead of it's own. I know it is minor (and temporary), but it messes up my display.
Is it possible to add an IRC-Chat to BK, so it might be possible to invite users which are currently online easier via IRC, or to discuss some tactics for example? It will take a while before it can be implemented, I think, but I know I'd love it...
