 Chess variants (10x8)

Sam has closed his piano and gone to bed ... now we can talk about the real stuff of life ... love, liberty and games such as
Janus, Capablanca Random, Embassy Chess & the odd mention of other 10x8 variants is welcome too

For posting:
- invitations to games (you can also use the New Game menu or for particular games: Janus; Capablanca Random; or Embassy)
- information about upcoming tournaments
- disussion of games (please limit this to completed games or discussion on how a game has arrived at a certain position
... speculation on who has an advantage or the benefits of potential moves is not permitted while that particular game is in progress)

SMIRF Engine:
Thanks for remarks. Writing a chess program is a heavy project , thanks to Smirf, Zillion and ChessV I have found many bugs in it and its
little and bigger brothers. Fereshte and the grand chess program are now stable when running without hashtable.
when using hashtable, I had crashes outside IDE with release version of them but they are not repeatable , it doesn't crash when I follow that line.

It's a strange program, sometimes plays good moves, another time misses a simple pawn fork :-)

sorry , programming is just a hobby for me, I was wasting processor power with unnecessary renders, a few lines solved it , you can also free it by opening load/save windows :-)

I liked to use the same numbering but couldn't guess the routine of smirf, many thanks if I can have it.

considering this rule : All pawns must be protected by a friendly piece at the start position

isn't the start position '760' of SMIRF illegal? pawn 'e' isn't protected

There is a difference between Server-based (e.g. brainking) and correspondence (e.g. ICCF) chess. If I play with someone under ICCF rules why can't I post/fax/email him 1.e5?
On brainking, server doesn't let me.
There is no mention of that on ICCF rules. NO , there is , it refers me to FIDE rules. FIDE rules explicitly mention how to move a pawn.
What about using a chess engine? why the rule 4.3 is valid but 12.2 isn't?
I don't say there is a way to solve that problem. I just want to say if I use a chess engine in ICCF games , I'm a Cheater, acting against their principle philosophy.

Ok schachdmt, that was my last post about this :)
I left IECG.org because I don't like this kind of chess. And no way to solve it, but they are CHEATERS.

O čem je toďten plk: Re: Re:
So they should mention it separately in their rules that what is cheating what is not.
Now anybody who doesn't find it in their rules should search in FIDE rules!
I see it against their principle philosophy (Amici Sumus ) , if I play with someone who I think dosen't use a chess engine but he does.
Unfortuanetly I don't know German :(
I can't find a rule about that on brainking also.

O čem je toďten plk: Re: Chessmaster
The ICCF rules refer us to FIDE rules. It just defines time controle, move transmission,...
So the EE101-12.2 rule of FIDE is as valid as the rule of how knight moves.

12.2 During play the players are forbidden to make use of any notes, sources of information, advice, ...

Also a tournament director's job is to decide about lying and CHEATING. If any help is OK so what is cheating?

I was one of those who sent PM to remove Walter. As much as I remember after some of first anti-patent messages , Ed insisted to discuss it via private messages but Walter continued it in public. The result was that instead of some nice analysis of Gothic Chess (no doubt Ed is the best player here), we had lots of discuss about law. I think this DB is for chess students not law students.
So the job of moderator was to cut it at first as Ed insisted, but sadly it was moderator who started and continued it.
Please , solve your problems privately , or in the real world.

Two different things, when I play online chess some people cheat , they can give it enough time and with a little intelligence of their own, anti-computer play doesn't work.
I dislike to play with a computer because it doesn't have soul. I can't talk with it, its tactic is perfect, we can't get drunk and play all the night :)

There are many different people who enjoys chess in different ways. I'm just an old man who regret old days when there was no computer. Now I can't tolerate clock pressure in OTB games and want to enjoy CC. But unfortuanetly chess engines spoil it.
As you called a tool (which is more valuable for me than an engine) a copper edition , I said to release it free , just a joke :)

I enjoy GothicChess and fortuanetly have found some old friends to play it.
Again Thanks Mr. Trice for inventing it and your hard effort on a silicon monster (although I hate engines)

Is it possible to unload the engine? Sometimes it's hard to not use it when it's available with just one click. I keep my chess engines including Fritz8 in a seperate place named mind viruses :)

What about a database program without the engine (and a little cheaper) ?

I like GothicChess very much , thanks Mr. Trice.
