I went to Judas Priest gig last night. Judas is one of my all time favourites and what a great show it was! They opened with "The Hellion" and "Electric Eye" followed by over two hours of hits. It must be a good sign if a band can play that long set and still some very famous and popular songs are missing :)
And Rob! What can i say about him.. Its hard to even imagine Judas Priest without him. I'm glad they survived all the years when he wasn't in the band. He really took the audience and acted like the metal god he is. The biggest letdown was that he didn't enter the stage in his Harley. Well, he corrected that on the encore "Hell Bent for Leather" :)
Between all the hits they also did a few numbers from their new album "Angel of Retribution". I haven't bought the record yet, but they sounded so good that i think i'll have to get it ASAP.
Wonderfull show, i really had a great time! What's everyones latest or favourite consert experience?
Well.. The sounds are a bit shallow, lyrics are quite cheesy and James sounds like the kid he was when that was recorded. And despite all that its a great album :) Its the record that really got me hooked into metal. What do you think of it?
Sure he has, although its only only guesswork on my part. He's very professional and good at what he does (== making money, isn't that what music is all about nowadays). I doubt Metallica wouldn't be as big as they are now had they never worked with Bob.
That being said, i don't exactly like the influence he has had on their sound over the years. Allthough its quite hard to say what comes from the band itself and what from the producer. And its almost impossible to try and think what would have happened with another producer..
Maybe i was exaggerating a bit, but lots of people i've talked to are not very fond of it. And i've read many negative reviews also. Anyways st. anger seems to grow on me, i like it more and more everytime i listen to it. And in my book that is the definition of a good cd :) I'd rank it among their top three albums with Master of puppets and And justice for all.. Sure its different from before but there's no need to do the same stuff over and over again.
About Bob Rock, i was quite worried what would happen when they first started working with him. They've survived for ten years without him completely destroying the band, so maybe he should be given some credit ;)
I think its "Ramble on" where they sing about Mordor and Gollum. I guess there are more references in other songs too. Even lyrics of "Stairway to heaven" sound Tolkienesque to me, although there isn't any direct references on that one.
