even if it were not the rule, to force the program to have and calculate all the draw rules, especially the one about repetition of position 3 times, would be far too heavy on the system resources. better to resolve such positions manually by a referee.
BuilderQ: Yes, the 3rd castling was a mistake that none of the opponents spotted (or maybe one did !). Similarly, in the 250-moves game between the two maniacs, there was actually the same position repeated 3 times but they did not realize it ... (someone was brave enough to go through the game andfound out) :-)
At Amazon.com i saw the book The Chess Advantage in Black and White : Opening Moves of the Grandmasters (Mckay Chess Library), written by Larry Kaufman. The book sounds good! Can tell me anybody his experiences with this book if he/she knows it?
One possibility to avoid this all is to play "live-chess"and a good reference could be the new " Schacharena"(unfortunately only in German until now). You can play there 15,30.45 and 60 minutes for the whole game each player,no client is necessary and it is completely free! And the best is that the webmaster perhaps wants to implementate 8x10 chess in the future!
Would be nice if we could play in this way here in Bk anytime.
big deal - and even obligatory for serious players who don't want to be
caught in the same standard traps together with the average masses, permanently.
I suggest to chose a less liked opening and to become a reference yourself, possibly. ~*~
Apart from the speed with which a computer program can evaluate a situation, what is the difference between refering to a computer sorted database and checking in, say, a book for the same scenario and possible lines of attack/defence which have been successful for others. I wonder if there was the same discussion when books on chess positions and reference voumes of played games first were published.
One reason I play little chess these days is that I have come to realise that I cannot compete with people with great experience who can rely upon a knowledge store of past games, strategies and tactics which I do not have. I prefer to play the variants where each game is new and strategies and tactics need to be worked out each time from scratch .... where storehouses of past games just do not exist.
Caissus, I would make a distinction between computer users, who are using a self written program and those who are using a foreign. The first is only a individual form of using one's experiences. Other player are querying through huge game databases also with computer support.
The final round of the 35th German Correspondence Chess Championship starts now with 17 topplayers (wow, that means a lot of games simultaneously!).The tournement will be played on the traditional way with postcards only. One of the participants is our (in standard chess ) very strong member "Mely" (Uwe Mehlhorn ).Good luck, Uwe!
Have to get Fencer to install a "delete many" button. The deleterious posts have been removed and the ones that didn't make sense without them. If sanity prevails we can continue ... and as he expected Dano is now hidden.
I know red, my point was... things appear differently depending whose eyes are upon it. Where you saw unusual play, I saw a path I had taken 1000 times before.
Also, sometimes you have to make risky moves to win an otherwise drawn game. When in doubt, I complicate the position, and play for the most tactically ornate arrangement.
That is my definition of fun.
Just look at this position to see something really fun!
And with that said we might move on please ... analysis of the game will be acceptable (after it is finished of course) but until then we should let them play it out in peace (however long it takes).
A really ridicoulous statement from a player, who always offers draw in completely lost positions (against me as well) combined with threats and offences. We know you meanwhile,Edtrice.
AlexII recently sent me a message to which I cannot reply since I am in his enemies list. So I guess I will reply here since his questions to me seemed sincere.

My name really is Ed Trice. In the past, I have defeated World Computer Champions in the game of chess (Deep Thought) and checkers (Chinook). I think I am the only human to have done so.
For the Wall of Honor link, you have to scroll down a little to find my name.
I have also played against strong chess players, like the legendary GM Sammy Reshevsky (a game I lost in the Sicilian Defense in 1989, but if you search in Google, you will find this game too.) I drew Greg Shahade (2502) in a very interesting Smith-Morra Gambit line. I have had 3 other games published in Chess Life in the 1980's, but I cannot recall them at this point.
You can review my profile and see the games I have played against others. You will see I have scored wins against players at the top, not merely the "weak" players. I actively seek out the strongest of the strong in order to better myself.
I gave you two pieces at the start of this game in the very unusual Double Muzio line of the King's Gambit. In my analysis, white's line in the openin book was bad, but I found the draw, which is this position. I can force the swap of your Bishop for two pawns, and exchange off the rest.
You came close to winning at one point, but I have played this line 1,000 times, and the draw is rather straightforward.
If you wish to play on, that is OK too, but the end result will be a draw.
I shall look over that due to the language barrier ... 0:)
got the fritz 5.32 in a games collection (15 CDs €5) and also
as sponsor-cd in a magazine ... almost free :D rebelfritz works. ~*~
The program - end of 2003 still sold as Pro-Deo ( $50 ) -
is freeware now ... It's downloadable from Schroeder's homepage - about 3.5 MB - the engine works in chessbase and chesspartner ... ~*~
According to the "advanced chess" as mentioned here earlier: I'm playing now on playchess.de, where one can play in the "human chess league" (computer support not allowed) and/or in the "advance chess league" (computer support allowed) and/or in "computer chess league" (human support not allowed). I'm playing now, after few HCL games, in one ACL tourney. And to be honest -- it's quite boring... :-)
