bumble: haha! in Iran, there's no copy-right law or at least I haven't heard of any. Or maybe there are some laws but are not taken that much seriously. I have had the CD copied for me. In every shop related to softwares you can have that. Almost all CDs that are worth a lot in other countries are copied here with very cheep prices. And of course, we don't care about the LICENSE!
I like it this way since I can have everything cheeply but as for the companies, I admit that it really is anoying.
I recently purchased 30 copies of XP Pro for $8 each. And 50 copies of Microsoft Office Pro for $19 each. And Windows 2003 Server & 50 Licenses for $40 - All perfectly legal, shipped directly from Microsoft themselfs!
Of course Microsoft is very nice to non-profit organizations.
Rose: Thanks! I never bothered to install the Service Pack 2. It looked as if it was going to take up too much memory.
I had 98 but for the life of me I can't remember what it was like! I've been happy enough with XP.
I has 2000 at one time and I thought XP was better than that - or maybe it just was better suited to my requirements.
bumble: Xp is 10 times better than 98 in many ways. NO more blue screen of death for one. Plus the many bugs were worked out in XP. Not to say it wasnt with out bugs but once you get Service Pack 2 installed it works pretty ok.
Thanks, rabbitoid and Summertop. I guess that's a 'no' then! Time to break into the piggy bank.
Just as a matter of interest though, as I'm going to fork out, how much better than Windows 98 is XP? And which is the best Windows version of all (although I suppose it's horses for courses on that one).
bumble: as Summertop said, legally no. in fact, technically it's "no" too. you can't just take a windows partition disc, transfer it to a new hardware and expect it to work. you must install it from a CD for it to work. this is true even if the rest of the hardware (excepting the disc you transfer) is 100% identical. the reason is that windows is looking for IDs on stuff on your motherboard, stores and uses the info. you'd run into a lot of problems with MS software if you don't install things "properly".
In fact, technically Microsoft is fully ready to be able to monitor exactly who is using what software, legal or not, but can't impose it for several reasons. one, such monitoring would be illegal in most countries; second, it would give a huge push to use the cometing free Linux OS.
Legally, No! You need to buy another license for the new computer. Unless, you remove Windows XP from your old one. Each computer needs it's own license.
Help please!
I have a computer with Windows XP and I have the disk, COA, number etc.
I then buy another computer without Windows.
Can I use the Windows XP disk etc I have on the new computer?
If I do need to download anything, I'll have it thru my ISP & that way I don't have to worry as much. Even got a computer check-up that I can have them check everything out when I'm either on or off-line
volant: I do have the 800 number but mostly if I have a problem w/ something, I would get a pop-up explaining what the problem is & I can send it to them which is good!
"Microsoft Windows: A thirty-two bit extension and graphical shell to a sixteen-bit
patch to an eight-bit operating system originally coded for a four-bit microprocessor which was written by a two-bit company that can't stand one bit of competition." ~*~
danoschek: Yea that's what I mean. My husband and I sell puters for a living so I know the prices and my first system cost me $3800 but that was yearrrrrss ago. To rig up one with top o the line everything - best sound card, best vid card, 19" flat screen, full o ram plus burner and even dvd burner it wont add it up to $4000Ca
5 or 6 Years ago they sold for $4200 with all the bells an whistles but I think it would be pretty hard to spend that much on a dell now days with the way prices are dropping.
O čem je toďten plk: --McAfee Antivirus Library Vulnerability

A vulnerability in McAfee's Antivirus library could allow attackers to cause
systems to run files instead of simply scanning them for malware. Users are
vulnerable only if their software has not been updated through a current
subscription and if the most current virus definitions file has not been downloaded.

MagicDragon: Was that a special program that you got your Dell through? I wondered cause, I just got an '05 Focus and one perk is they are sending me a Dell also. boy, I can't wait!!!
MagicDragon: Great!! I know I have made that mistake before.. not to hard with mine to get it in the wrong spot.. due to my desk and being limited to almost feel my way to the hookups! LOL...
ScarletRose: I checked everything what it said to do w/ hooking the speakers. I found the problem, I had it plugged 1 spot over but when I looked it had 3 plug ins while I have 4! LOL
ScarletRose: Yes it is a new computer that I got from Dell. They said everything was already programmed but I have CD's that I can use for reinstalling. Everything else is working great so far except for the sound part. I have to recheck it tho.. Thank You for the help!
MagicDragon: Is this a new puter? or did you send yours in to the shop?
do some checking to make sure the speakers are all connected properly.. in the right socket..
Then.. if that isn't it.. you may want to..
Go to Control Panel/System Properties/System/Hardware/Device Manager if you notice a yellow ? next to anything then something isn't working correctly.. you would then just click on what it is and go into their properties.. where it tells you how to fix it..
Well I received my computer Wed. After I hooked everything up & got it running an such, I can't seem to get the sound to work. Do I have to reinstall the sound before it works? Thanks
Top Five Online Scams - for me, all the 5 "scams" listed in this article are common sense to me - but I know others might (MUST) still fall for it - so make sure you take a look so you don't fall for them.

img.uff.cz is the site you got to allow in the security or web-
performance presets of your firefox if images didn't load lately.
sorry, on the bk-board cmmc-paranoia censors such useful infos ... ~*~ .
I use Firefox 1.01 in 98% of the cases. The problem as i see is that i have updated the MSN messenger and the Microsoft decided to add this file that in the below link you gave, they don't exaplain clearly (not to say at all) what it's purpose is......... Perhaps a Microsoft computer spy?
Does anyone know what the hell is LOADQM.EXE. It runs on the background and it slows my computer so i have always to terminate it............
I'm thinking of deleting it, but who knows what is needed for......I think it has something to do with MSN messenger as i have updated it recently......
ScarletRose: I have noticed that there are new wanna-be computers(for lack of a better generic term)coming on the market.
I have often wondered why so many people use webtv,or buy video game systems.
because they are as expensive as buying a cheap or 2nd hand computer.
webtv & video game systems are so limited.
