In my opinion, the rose border around the board already indicates that this game is quite different from regular chess. Changing the shape of the pawns is not really necessary.
In this game, http://brainking.com/game/ShowGame?g=482245, my pawn on h6 can't move. All of my other pieces with legal moves are clickable links, but this one is just a non-clickable image. It might be related to the fact that I can capture into the a column with that pawn.
I don't see any legal move for your h6-pawn. In fact, h5 is occupied, while a5 and g5 are both vacant. This prevents the pawn from moving forward or making a capture.
Troy: The pawn cannot move because its move would expose your king to the check by the white bishop. These things are often not spotted in cylinder chess :-)
i played some games in amazon chess and at first it seems to be mostly similar to chess (because most of my opponents wanted to exchange the amazons).
but against bratr i played the first game in which i really noticed the power of the amazons - with a funny mate! http://brainking.com/game/ArchivedGame?g=491106
HOME fellowship needs a player for cylinder chess so we can join the team tournement. Just ONE player! There must be someone who wants to join the tournament?!
personally i think that black shoudl get to start 2 more files of pawn up farther. evening things out. blacks pawns are jsut to slow in this game. there always 1-2 tempos behind. i think that the added 2 advanced files will even out things.
Yup, looks like a bug to me (opponents pawn should have been removed).
Fencer should be able to fix it. You may want to send Fencer a message, or post about it in the Bug Tracker since I don't think Fencer reads all the boards every day.
If this is an ancient variant then its rules should be different. I don't know how was ancient indian chess but with old western chess rules I think this variant is more balanced.
The problem is black can proceed without giving any hole in its position. With old rules black has two holes (b7 and g7) at first and moving ahead without giving a hole to white needs ultimate cooperation of pieces.
I think the crowned chicken has real chances of survival , give it the power of modern Bishop also, then it will be a dragon :)
Sorry for the late reply, but I just noticed that post :-)
The immediate problem with that game is this: The only reason the maharajah can mate itself is because of the presence of corners. Without corners, that possibility disappears (in other words, the maharajah cannot checkmate on a cylinder) :-)
In Cylinderchess many games start with b3 or/and g3,with the developing of the bishops and it seems that the best place for the king is in the middle, without castling. Comments?
slowly i am getting the feeling of the threatments of bishops over the edge, but not the pawns, yes, i often forget it! by the way: what about endgames in cylinder chess? can a queen only mate (suppose yes), rook (suppose no).
mating with queen is possible. you have to prevent the king going out over the edge. but i think, it makes the time to mate only longer. until the opponent's king is not at the last or first horizontal line he can escape one line back at the other side, ok.
In my game against FriendJosh an endgame king+Rook-King occured. My opponent in my opinion defended correctly, staying with his king in the "centre" of "lefr/right" side of the board.
