How did you come up with your nic?
I'm really not the one that came up with it. On another site, Bumble made a reference to me as a being a "Florida Floosie".
A few weeks later when some of us decided to try out this site. As a joke, I wrote it in as a nic. I was actually planning on changing it to something else, but oddly enough it began to stick.
I quickly found that a couple of people that started games but were more interested in chatting than playing games. So, needless to say it became "NOT a floosie".
What's a "Floosie"? And if you're not one then what would be the word you'd choose to say what you are?
A Floosie, according to the dictionary, is a disreputable woman or a woman of loose morals.
Uniquely-average. Is that a word? Unique, in the sense I am unlike anyone else in the world. And average, because there really isn't anything special about me that really sets me apart from any one else.
What thought went into choosing the name "NOT a Floosie?" Can you prove you are NOT, in fact, "a Floosie"? Is this one of those names like 'Tiny' is a nickname for a large man?
Thought? Me??? HA!
Can I prove that I'm not a Floosie? Where do you come up with this stuff? Sure...of course I can prove that I'm NOT a floosie. And I will just as soon as you prove that a large man couldn't possibly be nicknamed "Tiny".
:o)
Not a Floosie, I assume your nickname was crafted to indicate that you can't be lumped with the morass of airheads out there. Given that, I'm assuming it was intentional that you misspelled the word floozie as "floosie" on purpose to give it an ironic twist to the implied meaning, as in "I aren't stoopid", or was it a floozie-like oversight, which is even more ironic in itself?
Wow, that's a big question!
I would say that changing my nic from Florida Floosie to NOT a floosie definitely indicates that I prefer not being lumped. Yet whether I am or not, is probably question that does linger in some peoples minds.
I do admit that my spelling has never been all that great. I did pull out a trust old dictionary (the copyrights were from 1953 to 1962) before deciding the spelling of the word. According to that dictionary, the word (slang in the 60's) could be spelled several different ways: floosie, floosy, floozie or floozy. The "sie" version was intentional. I just preferred it to the others.
Are you married?
I was married once, it didn't work out. There are no rings on these fingers at the moment, or any immediate prospects waiting in the wings.
You were born in Michigan but moved to Florida, the other end of the country Why?
I really didn't set out to move to Florida. It just happened. The sunny skies, beautiful sunsets, gorgeous white sand beaches and the great year around weather that initially brought me here.
I had visited Florida with my family when I was a teen.
After graduating from college, I returned home, and started hunting for a job in Michigan. I grew up in a small farming community, and was not having any luck. I was getting pretty discouraged.
My parents decided to take a trip to Florida for a week. Because the job hunting was not going well, I decided to tag along. I thought maybe after we returned home things would get better.
On the way south, I was thinking how much I liked Florida. Also flashing in my mind was the fact that if I ever found a job, I would be spending the rest of my life working. I kept thinking that in Florida the weather was great for most of the year. In Michigan, the summer months of good outdoor weather is short. My odds of having days off from work when the weather was good were much better in Florida than they would be in Michigan.
When we arrived in Florida, I decided to apply for a couple of jobs. I never expected that I would actually find anything. Within three days, I was offered a good job which I accepted.
I went back to Michigan, packed my clothes, and have been here ever since.
What's there in Florida to see? And, please, don't say the sun and the beach, I already have that here and so it wouldn't convince me to go there to visit.
Florida is a tourist state. There are many, many places to see and things to do. I can't even begin to put them all down here.
Some of the towns are historical and have lots of stories to tell. Some communities have been settled by other cultures and have customs and traditions that are still carried on. And then there is always Key West, which by some standards...well,let's just say it is a whole different world!
We have major theme parks such as Disney World, Cypress Gardens, Busch Gardens, Sea World, Universal Studios.. They are all fun to go to, but getting on the bit expensive side if you have a family.
La Nouba, Cirque De Soleil, the Titanic Exhibition, and the Kennedy Space Center are also very interesting places to visit.
Water parks are great to take kids to. You can pack a lunch and spend the day at fairly reasonable prices.
Some lesser known places close to me that I like to take people to that are visiting are:
Solomon's Castle, on Horse Creek. The official website can be clicked at the bottom of the page that is linked.
Mote Marine
Great Explorations, a hands on museum. (Their website doesn't seem to be working at the moment.) This is a children's museum with all sorts of things to try. It is interesting and great fun for adults too!
The Royal Lippizan horses is another fun way to spend the day. The Herrmann family has a farm close to here. When the horses are not touring, they can be seen practicing a couple of days a week on the farm.
Outdoor activities and sports are abundant in Florida. If you are a baseball fan, spring training for many of the major leagues are held in this area. We also have everything from football to ice hockey to motor sports. There is lots of boating, and fishing along our intercoastal waterways as well as from our beaches. All kinds of cruises are available too.
Camping is great here. Crystal clear rivers, underground caves, and springs provide places to dive, canoe, or just spend a lazy day floating down the river. One of my favorite camping places is Ginny Springs.
Around here there are quite a few things that only the locals know about. There is a little place on a riverbank where people gather a couple times a week with their lawn chairs and listen to fiddle players and other musicians. Anyone that shows up is welcome to play. One of the beaches has a little cultural exchange on Friday and Saturday evenings. Lawn chairs start arriving early around a circle to get a good spot to view, singing, dancing, and other cultural activities. Anyone can participate by signing up before sunset, and participants dress in their native costumes.
I know you don't want to hear about the beaches.... but they also offer more than just basking in the sun. The loggerhead turtles nest and hatch on our beaches. If you don't mind staying up all night at the time of year this happens, our beach patrols will help you get a glimpse of the circle of life in action. If you show up just before sunset you might even get a glimpse of the submarine races. ;o)
Apart from Florida, Michigan and Hawaii, in which of the United States would you like to live?
I have never been to Hawaii, and really have never had any desire to visit. If I had to choose some place else to live in the United States that I have been, it would probably be in the Carolina's. The country is really pretty and the weather is fairly mild.
If the state bird of Florida is a pelican- why do so many Floridians put fake Pink Flamingos in their front yards?
ROFL OH please! Every good American knows the answer to that one! *scratches head and wonders about Baddessi*
There are a couple of good reasons for those silly things. One is to scare away tourists by making them think we are all crazy.
The plastic flamingo idea was probably a man invention. Honestly, what would your husband rather see out in a front of your trailer? A big ugly bird with a dead fish hanging out of his mouth, or a little hot pink number with long legs?
Is the concrete slab that your trailer is on painted green to simulate grass?
Huh??? A concrete slab? You mean it isn't grass? And to think, all these years, I've been mowing that thing! Why didn't someone tell me sooner.
How many gators do you own?
LOL Somehow I just knew you were going someplace in that direction. I don't own any. I borrow them once in a while to scare away tourists.
From your profile: "Contrary to popular belief, some of us that live in Florida do not have blue hair, or live in a trailer." You mean to say that most of you have blue hair?
We try!
;o)
Why did several people put me up to asking you about your Blue Hair?
Clay.... Clay.......Clay!!! Haven't you learned by now that listening to goofy people on this site is going to get you in trouble?
Have you ever been on holiday, If so where?
In my lifetime, I've traveled through most of the continental states. There are only a few that I haven't seen, mostly western states.
I've been to Canada, and to Mexico and to the Bahamas. I've visited the England, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein.
What is your favorite vacation spot?
London. There was just so much to see and so much to do.
Now that I'm a little older and working, I'm happy just to get a vacation! When I do get a few days off, I enjoy spending time any place quiet, peaceful, outdoors places away from telephones, traffic and cities.
How often to you go to Disney World and what's your favourite part?
Even though it is only about three hours away, I have not been to Disney World in years. I have not seen Animal Kingdom yet.
My favorite parts of Disney are It's A Small World, the Bear Jamboree, the Diamond Horseshoe Saloon Review, and of course the Haunted Mansion!
Which of the 7 Dwarves is most like you in character?
Dopey? Happy? Dopey? Happy? Hmmmm......
Bumble! Are you taking bets on the answer to this one?
I guess I could be dopey and not be happy. Ok, so I'm quite often dopey, but I'm generally always a happy dopey. Or I could be happy, and still be dopey, or not. Probably no one would notice the difference.
Ok......Happy wins!
What is your favourite building in the world?
The first thing that comes to mind is, there is no place like home. I'm a homebody.
I do like old historic buildings that have tales to tell. There are so many neat buildings, beautiful old churches with stained glass windows, old castles, old wooden covered bridges, pretty houses with all the gingerbread trim. That's a hard question, and I really don't have an answer because there is no one particular building that sticks out in my mind.
What is your favourite flower & animal, and why?
Oh, you hit on something I really like...flowers.I My favorite flowers are lilacs closely followed by African violets and roses.
There is nothing like the smell of lilacs in bloom. When I was growing up, there was a huge lilac bush outside my Grandparents kitchen window in Michigan and when that was in bloom it made the house smell so good. Unfortunately, they don't grow in Florida, and that is the one flower that I greatly miss.
African violets because they are a great indoor plant and there are so many different varieties.
And roses, because they are so easy to grow here. The blue ones are my favorite because of their smell.
My favorite domestic animals are horses. There is a beauty and grace in watching them trot and gallop across a field. And, my favorite wild animal would be monkeys. It just amazes me how human-like the Moms are towards their babies, and how human-like the babies play.
Do you own any pets? Can you tell us what they are and their names?
I do not have any pets. I'm allergic to some animals, and at this point in my life I just don't have the time or the space to be able to provide proper care for any.
What are your favourite films and television programmes?
I work so much I do not really watch much television or to see movies very often. I like the ones that make you laugh and the ones that make you cry, or true stories of real people.
One of my favorite movies is "The Sixth Sense". I really disliked it until the end. After seeing the ending, I just had to watch it over and over.
My favorite tv show is Big Brother. (I know some of you are going say yuck at this one!) I also like shows like Sixty Minutes and 48 Hours. Some of the others I like are King of Queens, Two and A Half Men, and Everybody Loves Raymond. I watch The Young and the Restless once in a while when I am able to be home during the day.
What shop can't you walk past?
Do garage sales (or car boot sales) count? I'm a bargain shopper. Forget those ritzy-ditzy places, and give me a good dollar store, flea market or second hand shop. I am very fond of the $3.00 rack at Walmarts.
What is your favorite item of clothing?
I like comfort! T-shirts, big T-shirts When it gets cold out, sweatshirts and sweat pants.
I am very conservative when it comes to fashion and clothing, I very seldom buy things because they happen to be in style this year.
What is your favorite pass time besides BK?
I really don't have a lot of extra time. I work full time over 40 hours a week at a regular job. I also work before the major holidays for a local flower shop. I have a small business of my own making and selling crafts.
I have my own home which requires a lot of work. I also take care of my parents home and yard when they go north for the summer.
When my parents are here in the winter, we spend time playing cards and a new silly card and marble game that they found.
With what little time I have, I enjoy spending time with friends, going to dinner, shopping, bbq's, camping, day trips, outdoor activities, and movies and concerts.
I enjoy sewing and making quilts and wall hangings for my family and close friends. It is something that I can give someone that I know they will never have another like it.
Do you play any musical instruments? If so which ones do you play?
In school, I played the clarinet, alto and tenor saxophone. I did not keep up with it.
I understand that you are a gifted craftsperson- what are your favorite things to make and sell and do you do mail orders?
LOL Well, I don't know about gifted! It started out being a way of making extra money.
I make many different things from whatever I can find. I like making one of a kind things, but that isn't what I generally do when it comes to making things to sell. It's so much more efficient to do a production line type of things. Angels, snowmen, tree ornaments, are things I like to make. I also like flower arranging and doing wood working. Lately, I've been making a lot of sock monkeys because I got a good deal on socks.
Most of the things I sell are sold at craft shows, although I do mail things occasionally upon request.
What is your favourite meal? What is your
favourite drink?
I like to eat! Is ice cream a meal? *waits for Loggerhead to shake his head yes*
My favorite drink in the summer is coke. In the winter it is hot chocolate.
My favorite meal would either be lobster or prime rib.
A nice Greek salad and a gyro is good also!
Is it true that you prepare most of your meals in the microwave and do you have any favorite recipes or tips to share?
I really don't cook much. It is hard cooking for one, and most of the time seems like such a bother. I would rather be playing backgammon.
Once in a while when I'm feeling rather domestic, I'll cook and cook. Then package things in one meal containers and put them in the freezer. On those days when I come home tired from work, it is easy to throw a container in the microwave for dinner.
I do like cooking whole chickens in the microwave. I very seldom do them any other way. They always come out moist and tender.
What is your dream job?
I don't think I've ever been much of a dreamer.
I've had thoughts at one point or another of taking up mechanical drawing, owning a greenhouse or nursery, being a radiologist or a maybe photographer or possibly a web page designer.
If you could have one wish, what would it be?
It would be to keep sitting on that table, in the middle of an empty room, with a tea cozy on my head, waiting for the closed door to be opened by a little boy and his twin sister.
What is your very first thing you can recall... your first ever
memory?
LOL Had to ask that one didn't you!
Being a very shy, quiet and not very outgoing, kindergarten was pretty scarey and traumatic for me, which probably why I remember it. I was just 4 years old when I started kindergarten.
I remember being embarrassed about using the bathroom...because if I went in there everyone would know what I was doing! So....in one of my first few days I didn't quite make it. I quickly discovered that going into the bathroom wasn't nearly so embarrassing as having to sit in there and wait for your Mother to bring you dry clothes!
Another thing that was quite traumatic and embarrassing that started in kindergarten was a substitute teacher that I seemingly constantly had. Every single class that I ended up having her in, she made me stand up in front of the class and recite the ABC's. She did this from kindergarten through high school! I can remember cringing in first and second grade seeing her walk into the classroom!
You see, I was the oldest child. Apparently, my Mother had a lot of time on her hands. Oh yes, I was taught the ABC's before I started kindergarten. But I was taught them backwards. From Z to A. I was probably the only kid in the school that was taught them backwards. What in the world was my Mother thinking!!!!! (And yes...I can still say them backwards to this day. And I have learned them forward now too!)
*notes that I owe Red Dragon a pay back or two for this question*
o)
What is the best piece of advice you've ever been given?
Oh, I've been given so many pieces of advice I've been given. It's hard to pick just one.
I think the best piece of advice would have to do with success. I've been told that success isn't necessarily measured by what job you have, a big fancy car car in your driveway, or in the size of your bank account. Success is measured by working hard, doing your best, and doing it with pride and dignity and respect for yourself, and for others. It is learning to forgive, and not to with regrets. It is accept bad choices, decisions, and mistakes that you've made. And it's putting them down to learning experiences; accepting the fact that you did the best you could with the conditions and knowledge you had at the time; and moving on. Things happen for reasons. And even though we might not know what they are at the time, at some point they will become clear.
Don't spend your life worrying, be happy. And...wear clean underwear. You never know when you're going to be in an accident. :o)
Do you play many sports? Which do you prefer to play, and which do you prefer to watch?
I have played just about every sport you could imagine. Basketball, baseball, volleyball, bowling, skating of all kinds, ice and water skiing, swimming, running (and other field sports) golf, aerobics, modern dance (and other kinds of dance), gymnastics (and all those things that are included in that group), riding bicycles, and fencing; just to name a few!
I've always been very active several years ago when I fractured my knee cap in an accident. It was a devastating blow to me, and put an end to most the things that I loved doing in my leisure time.
I enjoy going to sporting events rather than watching them on tv. The only ones I will sit and watch (when I have time) are the Olympics, ice skating, and gymnastics.
What is your most embarrassing moment, or the most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to you?
I am generally a quiet and fairly shy person, so I try not to do things that cause embarrassment to myself. Even though I have a bit of a wild streak, I just generally don't put myself out there.
Keeping that in mind, I grew up in a small town where everyone knew everyone. I was in my early teens when this happened.
One day I went to the small local store on the main four corners of town. I spotted one of my Mom's friends from the back in looking at clothes. I was going up and down aisles just looking around trying to be unnoticed.
My Mother's friend was a large chested and very outgoing person who loved a good laugh. A few minutes later, I rounded a corner and found her again in the underwear department with her back to me. She was holding up and examining the biggest bra I had ever seen in my life. I didn't know they came that big!
I just couldn't let the opportunity pass! I came up behind her, tapped her on the shoulder and asked her if she REALLY thought that was going to be big enough because it sure did not look like it was going to be.
The woman turned around and I realized that it wasn't my Mom's friend after all...but a darn good look alike. I thought I was going to die on the spot!
How did you find about BrainKing? What made you stick around?
I found out about BK through friends that were playing on another gamesite.
I'm still here because of those friends and new friends that I have made here.
Who is your best BK friend?
I have made a lot of good friends at BK. It would be very difficult for me to pick out a "best" friend. I'm not sure I could!
I will say, that the first good friend that I made playing internet games with was Cariad. We've been playing games now for several years, and is actually one of the people that I came to this site with. We've shared happy times as well as sad times. She has shared her life, her family and her friends with me. I've watched a teen age girl grow with determination and grace into a lovely young woman she is today. (If she is reading this right now she's probably rolling her eyes and saying to her self....."Auntie, you are such a cow!")
Why do you think you were selected for this interview?
LOL Good question! I think there are people on this site that are much more interesting than I am. How many times could I say no? I tried to get out of it, but was told that I was the only Global that hadn't been interviewed yet. Shoot! I didn't know that being interviewed what was part of the deal when I said yes to being a Global.
What is the hardest part about being a Glob?
It was hard for all of us in the beginning because none of us knew what was expected of us, or what to expect. Nobody wanted to overstep our bounds, but we wanted to do our job. That has pretty much been resolved as time has gone on.
In the beginning, the hardest part for me was I felt guilty having to put someone on ban, hide, or to remove them as a moderator. I've pretty much resolved that issue in my own mind by confirming to myself that it is was, in fact, their actions that caused the problem. Not mine.
The hardest thing for me now is watching acquaintances, friends, and members leave feeling as though this site is not becoming family friendly fast enough. All I can say to them is we ARE trying, but it does take time.
How did you feel to be invited to enroll the list of BK staff as a global moderator? How do you feel about it now? Do you have to exercise your powers very often?
I was honored when I was asked to be a Global Moderator. Although, I am really not sure why I was asked over other people here.
I have mixed feelings about it sometimes. It hasn't always been easy being a Global, and at times has been very frustrating. There were times after work that I just wanted to come here, play some games and relax. Then something would come up and all that went out the door. The evening would be spent in taking care of or discussing a problem.
I do feel that we have come a long way in cleaning up the public boards. I'm am happy to see that the language on the public boards is more acceptable to the general public, and that personal attacks on individuals have diminishing. It seems like we are slowly moving in the right direction as we watch BrainKing grow.
I don't like the word "power". I think more of it as an "ability" ( hopefully combined with some common sense) which has been entrusted to me by Fencer.
I don't consider myself a powerful person in any sense. I don't feel that I have any "power" over person here. The "power" is with each individual person here. Every person here has the "power" to behave responsibly...or not.
I have put people on hide, have banned people from public boards, and in one case removed a person as a moderator on a public board. I would have preferred not to, but felt it was necessary in order to keep the site family friendly. To me, it is basically action and reaction. You choose to push the limits with inappropriate language or behavior, then the reaction will be to remove you from the boards. It is just that simple.
Were you surprised you were asked to be a global moderator and what do you wish to accomplish as one? Is there anything you'd like to tell us about being a global that may not be understood by the people on this site?
It came as a total surprise to me when Fencer asked if I would consider being a global moderator. I had not heard anything about it, or didn't know anything about it.
I think I can safely say that most of the globals have all taken some hard knocks because we have accepted the responsibility to try and keep the public boards family friendly.
As global moderators are trying not to make too many mistakes. We spend a lot of time discussing issues and ways of making this a friendly place. Sometimes things don't always happen as fast as we would like, and it may seem to some that we aren't doing anything. It takes time when something arises for all of us to let our feelings be known, and discussion to take place.
Many of us have lost family and fiendds that were members here because we weren't able to accompolish the goal of cleaning up the boards as fast as we would have liked. That hurts.
The globals are not the ony ones donating their time here. There are many people who deserve credit for helping to build this site and helping so Fencer can continue to implement new ideas and games. Other members here are working behind the scenes to bring other languages and cultures to this site. Big bosses, moderators, and customer service people are all donating time here too. Together, we are all hoping to build a better site we can all be proud of.
If this was your site what would be the first thing you'd change? (if any)
First off, I think that we all need to remember this is a gamesite which is used by people of all ages and by people of different backgrounds and from different countries. People do not have the right to log on here and be nasty. They do not have the right to log on here and demand freedom of speech. It is a private site with some basic rules and regulations for conduct. People should consider it a privilege to be able to play here, whether they are guests or members. It should not be considered a right, or a freedom to do or say anything you wish. To me, it is like going into friends home, and should be respected as such.
The first thing I would change would be to make the big bosses responsible for the content and language used in their fellowships. I think that being a big boss should be a considered a privilege.
I think big bosses should be responsible and remove all members from their fellowships that have behavioral problems or use language unbecoming a game site. I would like to see any big bosses that continued to allow behavior problems in their fellowship have their privilege of being a big boss be revoked.
What question(s) did you hope would be asked, and what would your answer(s) have been?
LOL I was hoping none would be asked. And my answer would be "Thank goodness!!!"
What question were you secretly hoping that nobody would ask?
That would have been Harley's questions, one through three or four. They were all forms of:
"Would you agree to be the next to be interviewed?"
Whew! Am I done yet? Is it over? Did I miss any questions? Aha! It looks like Harley can pick out her next victim now. Run, everyone, run!!!!! :o)
*Sits back with a big dish of black cherry ice cream with marshmallow topping and waits for the next pond to start* Will someone please pass me a spoon! :o)
