I suspect that many of my countrymen don't know what the Cross of St David looks like (gold cross on a black background). The official flag of Wales is a red dragon (y ddraig goch), facing left, on a background of which the top half is white and the bottom half green. Once seen, never forgotten! Thanks, Fencer.
