Yea, it could go both ways - but my thinking is if I start a game with someone rated at 1700, I should get scored with a win or lose with that same person with the 1700 rated (no matter if it's now 1000, or 2200)
I also think back to the KM which used the current system to hurt other players - that is they would start a game with someone rated pretty high, they would purposly get that rating as low as possible, so when they win their game against a player, their rating will drop a lot. (example - both me & opponent are rated 2000 - they would hurry drop the other players rating to lets say 1000, then when they win - it hurt my rating a lot more then when it was at 2000)
On Chessmaniacs.com... The rating system is changed... It used to be a sbwildman said...below... But it now sets at what rating you started the game with....

that could go both ways,BBW..lets say your at 1700 and your opponent is unrated.the game takes 2 monthes to finish, your still at 1700 and your opponent is at 2000,and you lose.

Here is how I understand the upcomming BKR recalculations & graphs.
First is to go back to game #1, and go through all the game for all the players and recalculate the BKR for each and every game. So if at any time your BKR was messed up because of time outs, or other miscalculations - this should fix them.
How I understand the graph - it is more of a statistics type of thing, something like what LittleGolem.net has - if you seen their ratings. So if you go and look at my graph for Backgammon, you might see me start at 1300, maybe grow to around 1800 in Dec 2003, maybe a big drop back down to 1400 in a few month, etc..., etc... So you will also be able to hopefully quickly see what your "high" rating was in your past for a certain game, and "low" rating was.
Again, I have not seen it - so this is just how I understand this current project.
WHICH brings me to a question I asked awhile back, but never got an answer.
Why are ratings calculated with the rating at the time the game ends, and not the ratings when the game was first started?
before on-line turn based sites, ratings were almost always the same when a person started and completed a game, so there was never a question.
But with turn based sites, the ratings can be drasticly different from when you start a game and end a game. (I can not tell you how many Froglet games I have started with player rated 1300+, and by the time it ends - maybe they resigned many many games - my rating is calculated with their new 400 BKR, which I feel if really unfair.
Maybe I'm not thinking correctly, but wouldn't it be beter if ratings were calculated with the ratings that each player started with, rather then end it?
So for example, lets say I have a rating of 2000, and my opponent has a rating of 1000. We play a game, by the time the game is over, both our ratings are completly different.
I believe the ratings should be calculated with the original 2000, and 1000 ratings - and then add/subtract the results onto our current ratings.
I worked as a housekeeper at a local hospital... Most jobs I have had, I used to make one mistake and was the fall guy for getting yelled out...
I also Have depression... I rarely go anywhere anymore for the fact that I might get yelled out.. It is very Stressfull for me... I play games on different sites... it helps relax and enjoy playing with nice people like you...
Thank you...
Hi Daniel, I am sorry you lost your job.. I know how that feels like.. Not fun! What kind of work did you had? What kind of job are you looking for? I really hope it will work out for you.. and keep you in my thoughts and prayers,
I want say something...
I when I was working at a job... I played on only 1 site... I kindly help people...
Since I found this site... I ow play on this everyday... But I am now unemployed...
I am sorry to cause trouble... I know there are limits... Thank you to fencer for not making that just 10 games... Some day I will get a higher membership and be a part of this community...
Daniel Snyder, Misssouri, United States of America...
What is a History generator? What kind of graphs are you going to be using? For each game or for all games... Just trying to get a better understanding of this site...
Okay, the BKR graph and history generator is done and tested. Global BKR recalculation and graphs will be launched next week. And graphs will be accessible for paying members only.
For those interested, I have officially become the challenger of this year's Trax World Championship. This means that I will play the past world champion (Donald Bailey) in a best of 11 match, the winner becoming this year's World Champion.
The first of our match will be Saturday, October 23, 03:30 GMT. We will be playing the games live in the trax lobby. In order to watch the games, you must download (free) the lobby. It can be downloaded here. After installing the program (wherever you like), run the exe. The button to connect to the lobby is at the very bottom of the menu on the left. From there, you can type in whatever name you like and it should be self-explainatory from there. :-)
If you would just like to follow the results as they are played, they will be posted here as the games are completed.
even though it looked like Dan was asking for someone to pay for his membership, he just sent me a pm thanking me and also making it clear that he does not want anyone to pay for him. In fact he said that he has paid for numerous people himself on other sites so I think that really sets everything straight.
Yes UE, I agree that what Fencer gives people for free already is very generous considering the site
Fencer has specified the fee's in the how to pay page, people being members that long should know exactly what they are talking about, instead of throwing puns.
I agree with LJ Fencer can not give everything for free,20 games and unlimited moves, with one tournament is a very kind gesture to the best website on the internet.
Unfortunately Dan these days there are far too many multi nicks for someone to go out on a limb and sponsor you I would imagine.
You also draw attention to yourself a little too much by losing your patience with your subtle hints and coming right out and blatantly asking people to sponsor you and pay for your membership.
Danger Danger Will Robinson. Warning flags are going up all over the place.
I also noticed you chose to ignore one particular part of my previous post stating that at Pocket-Monkey there is free unlimited games and unlimited moves all day. Sure the site does not offer anything as good as this site, however, for someone who cant afford to pay, it is the perfect solution and also means you are never in need of a game due to the unlimited games on that site.
PLease do not take this personally as I am not accusing you of fraud. I just wish to point out why people would be hesitant to sponsor you.
Have fun!!!
I see what you mean, Rose. I should have made it clearer that I was replying to Daniel Snyder's post (he's got the USA flag on his profile).
My fault. :)
The BKR almost always changes, but sometimes the change is so small you will not see anything.
So in might have first been 2076.2, then 2076.5, then 2076.9, then the last win might have moved it to 2077.1 - which is why sometimes you get +1, and sometimes a +0. :-)
Chessworld allows only 5 games but the price is only 19$ US for 1 year membership... (IYT) Itsyourturn allows only 20 moves per day... Pente and Chessmaniacs are free sites and Pente 100 game limit chessmaniac has no limit... I will in about a year of playing every day is probably when I can afford my Rook Memebership... $50...
Thank you and all of you for being very nice...
I see on your profile that you also play at Chessworld.net, IYT.com, Pente.net and Chessmaniacs.com.
Do these sites have limits on your number of games? I would have thought that all sites combined would give you plenty of games to play.
Other sites such as Pocket-Monkey.com give you unlimited games for free, although the site is far from as good as this in most areas, however, if your problem is not having enough games to play, well I think we have just solved that one for you :)
Cheers
i am probably missing an option again
(hey i learned! i didnt post this in the feature forum right away ;))
could someone please tell me how to sort the list of game types which i can chose from when i want to invite someone to a game ?
it just took me several minutes to invite to a game of small pente because i overlooked it in the list
(yes i should look better i know .. but sorting the list alphabetically or something else would work as well ;))
THE HIT MAN - Have you went into setting to setup Auto vacations? Did they time out during a time you had setup for weekend or vacation? If neither of these, and your games run out of time - they will time out.
