Is it really necessary to mention that in rules...it's as if you wanted Fencer to mention in the rules of chess that you cannot move to row 9.

"No, the checkers at the top [bottom] are really stuck. Should I mention that in the rules?"

^I meant that.

It is. There is a note in Checkers rules about variants with long jumps.

in my opinion you should mention that in the rules.

If I recall right, should be zero add to both players because the difference its not big enought for taking points from you. I will say you should report the game to Fencer and explain the situation.

I agree with Stevie, i think it should be Zero to both.
for example, i draw 3 games in frogs, without having 25 games played and was a zero for both of players in the 3 games.
I don't think (and understand) why it is different now.
I know the bug but i posted here like i received.
Thanks to you both for the replies.

There is a known bug that on draws, it shows the bkr next to the wrong names at the moment

17. november 2004, 01:48:53
Stevie
I would say that should have been 0 also

Nuno: I think you have confused the ratings - it should be Nuno Miguel (2301) and Num1Fire (2106).

The difference is probably due to the fact that Num1Fire has an extablished rating which is not likely to fluctuate much, while your rating is based only on 6 games so far & thus can change a lot - even by draws.

17. november 2004, 00:21:41
Nuno Miguel
Hello, i draw a game with num1fire and the result was this:
Nuno Miguel: old BKR = 2106, new BKR = 2106 (0)
num1fire: old BKR = 2340, new BKR = 2301 (-39)

I think this is not right cause our rating gap was 234 points and should be add zero points to both of us.
thanks

Right now each game has 2 players... how do you play a game with 4 players less than that? :p

17. oktober 2004, 11:15:20
Stevie
I know, but reversi can be on diferent sized boards. whereas Reversi used to only be 8x8 board. Smaller one was used to speed it up etc.

A smaller Gothic checkers would have exactly the same rules, just 16 squares less and 4 players less on each side

17. oktober 2004, 08:30:37
Fencer
But it would not be gothic checkers then. The game has its specific rules, including the board size.

17. oktober 2004, 01:14:44
Stevie
im sure a smaller version would attract more players :o)

Hello big bad wolf
sorry for the late reply.
there is no such rule about draw in turkish checkers

Onderwerp: to encourage more players
Do you think a 6 wide x 8 high small gothic checkers would work? So as to have a shorter game, also would mean that once down to 1 king v's 2 king, there is more chance of a win than have to draw.

18. september 2004, 04:34:24
Stevie
Its especially better to draw when the single king is towards the centre of the board

Onderwerp: Re: question
It is possible to win in this situation. You need to have one of your kings against one of the sides, and if you can force your opponent towards one of the corners it's possible to position one of your kings so they would have to jump it and land in front of your other king for you to jump for the win. But a draw is easier since this could take a long time to do.

Onderwerp: Re: question
I may be wrong but i think it is almost impossible to force a win.

Games can be won like this, but when both are good players, its unlikely, So id agree with Fencer

I am new to Gothic Checkers. At the end of a game where I have 2 kings and my opponent has one, how can I pin him? It seems like a draw because he can always move side to side and escape capture.

Playing my first anti-checkers game tonight. I almost got confused and played an anti-checkersish move on a regular checkers game! That would have been embarassing.

Has anyone actually embarassed themselves like this?

I will change the model for all variants with "long" king/queen moves soon. You will be forced to make as many jumps as possible.

Thats not a bad idea BBW. Might be more interesting playing on a 10x10 board or possibly only having two parachute pieces.

Is there a rule somewhere like in chess, if the same move is made by both players 3 times or more in a row, the game can automaticly be called a draw?

8. april 2004, 15:34:34
coan.net
... and now that I know that, i will always try to get my piece to the main diagnal early so if I can't win - I'll at least make it a draw.

(Maybe some sort of "After XX moves", the game ends and the person with the most pieces wins rule is needed?)
