Do you miss something on BrainKing.com and would you like to see it here? Post your request into this board! If there is a more specific board for the request, (i.e. game rule changes etc) then it should be posted and discussed on that specific board.
Fencer, is it ever going to be changed that there will never be ties? I can't be alone in feeling that I would rather continue with another round until a final winner is determined.
Hi Fencer;
Just me your huge Fan of BKR;^)
I know you're going through trying times working on this Website...
I admit,:( I've been griping a bit here n' there about this n' that but I wanna say Thank You anywayz 4 creating this online game website.
U make it fun 2 stay in touch with people one cares about (while playing of course) & also meeting/making new friends all around the globe.
i have also noticed that i have lost about 15 to 20 points off my bkr in five in line (has anyone else noticed anything like this ?) ive double checked my mails but there is no losses for a while
Yes, it should be a 4 way tie for the win. I have seen this problem a few times, and once Fencer see's this message - he will fix it so it is a 4 way tie! :-)
fencer could you tell me if this is correct it seems to have picked one winner even though all 4 people have the same score even with the s.b taken into account here should this be a 4 way tie ?
thanks in advance
1) Maybe later, it would be too CPU-consuming process to display this list on each page.
2) Yes. When I have more time for it :-)
3) You can see it on your Profile page if you select "signed tournaments" in the dropdown box.
4) Why not. I'll write it down.
1) I would actually prefer to see an "Opponents on-line" section in the margin to the right. In fact, I usually want to see it more than I want to see the "Friends on-line".
2) Wouldn't it make sense to make all of the stuff in the right option "optional"? You already have "Tip of the day" optional, so why not include a 'hide' link for the "Friends on-line", "Favourite boards", etc? What this would actually do is improve server performance, since there would be less lookups to the database to see who is online, what new messages are available, etc (if hidden, that is).
3) I have signed up for a bunch of tournaments... but I am having a hard time finding out what tournaments I have signed up for. Intuitively, when I click on "My Tournaments" off the menu, I would expect to see a list of those tournaments I have signed up for. Maybe this can be added to the drop down box?
4) Finally, when I am looking for tournaments to sign up for, I am usually looking for something specific, like Atomic Chess. However, it is often not clear whether a particular tournament offers it or not. I have to click into the tournament to see what games are available. I would suggest having a drop-down box at the top that allows one to select a particular game that would filter the list down to just the tournaments that have that game in it... Either that, or under each tournament title, include a list of all the games that are included. Probably doing both would help.
It would be nice if some of the other non-server based stuff was included on the brainking.info site... for example, I wanted to go look up some rules to Janus and Gothic chess, but the site was down... Can the rules at least be put up on the other site? I would recommend anything that doesn't need the database backend to be available on the alternate site...
That's fine for an established business. Sometimes early on the business will need to go into debt. One way to do that is to offer a share of the business (like a venture capitalist). Perhaps there is such an investor to be found here? I don't think casual bake sales and passing the hat is going to be very helpful though.
In the free market system, business usually charge enough to accomodate business expenses plus a small profit. If the money being charged is not enought, I suggest raising the price. The market will sift out those wishing to pay for the service and those not wanting to pay. With the constant discussion about finances rather than chess I am apprehensive about my paid membership. If the site is in such dire straights as painted by the discussions held, then please advise when we should discontinue the payment for the membership.
Since at best you'll get about 10% adoption, you'll only raise under $1000. Is that really all that's needed to fix the problem? How about offering shares in possible future profits for investors instead? At this rate the problem is going to be that players such as myself will not shell out to renew our memberships when they expire unless something is done about the problem.
As I said yesterday.. What's a buck or two? Not too much for anyone I would think...
No need to donate tons of cash. If every one just gave one dollar or the equiv this site would be the fastest bestest turn based site online!!!
(Jumping off my soapbox now to finish my house work)
It is, and when we have enough paid members that WILL be enough. But right now it isn't. And as someone pointed out, its a vicious circle. People will not pay for membership while there is access problems, but these problems cannot be fixed until there is more money available!
So the die hard BK addicts are willing to donate a little extra to try to help!
When a player makes a move and offers a draw (by clicking in the little box), could you put the Draw Offer in BIG letters, in RED, above the opponent's game board, so that he/she cannot miss it, please.
Yes, i asked about this, and he said he would not add something like this until he had tested it very carefully. That was the last I heard about it :-)
How about if a group winner is decided prior to all games being finished, the group is considered complete and the next round can begin (or the champion crowned)? This would potentially stop some tournaments dragging on... :)
Sorry I made a mistake when writing.I guess you understand what I mean now.Are you planning to add any kind of knockout tournaments? They are funny too,and a lot of people would like it(I think)
I'm currently removing a few players from my Under 1500 Checkers for dummies tournament because a few players now have a rating over 1500.
Anyway, I've notice that all you have to do is click "remove" and *poof* they are gone.
Possible Problem: It would be very easy for someone to accedently click on this and remove a player they did not mean to remove.
My Suggestion:
When you click "remove" to remove a player, have it come up with a screen that says "Are you sure you want to remove this players".
I think it would also be nice to have a message box there and automatically send a message to anyone who is removed (so they know they were removed) - and also allow the tournament creator to write a message.
So if the creator does not write a message, the removed person will get a message like "You were removed from *THIS* tournament".
And if the tournament creator does write a message, the removed person will get a message like: "You were removed from *THIS* tournament. The Tournament creator had this to say: XXXXXXXXX"
I've heard that Omega Chess is a variant that is very popular in Canada and is begining to spread to the US. I'd like to play it with other people here on brainking. I think it would be a great new feature..
1) How is it related to "feature requests"?
2) I think that if you cannot log on only twice a day, it is not a big problem with respect to the hardware we have to use. See BrainKing.info for more details.
Emne: Times aren't showing correctly for tournaments
BBW was holding a tournament that showed the final term for signup as being Thursday, July 10, 00:00:00 which is midnight, July 10. but, according to BBW, it allowed him to start the tournament today. 00:00:00 is the last minute of a day not the first since technically the day does not start until 00:00:01. Just wanted to let you know! Keep up the good work.
Emne: Re: Any Chance ( It Is Your Turn In x Games : With Friends)
Or maybe it could be possible to add some piece of information on the game list about the opponents status (friend or foe) - then it could be just sorted. In my opinion, there are quite a lot of sections already, the page is starting to look cluttered (too much eye candy on the pages anway - I mean I know what time it is, and there appear to be at least to clocks going on this site... :D)
Hmm... Off topic, but has anyone pointed out that there really is quite a lot of useless information on the pages? Removing it could speed up the site (= more simultaneous users without errors) and improve readability. Lets see... Date and time? Favourite boards? Layout? Language? Tips (I think I can turn this one off)? Does anyone use any of these??? :)
I'm not sure if I'm still having the problem that I wrote down below (I'll try to check to see if I'm still having this problem)
But a new small problem - now I have some of the people's message from many turn before stuck on the top. So I have a "Good Luck" from 5-6 moves before (still only in Battleboats)
Is it poosible for a third 'Games' section to be added. I.E. It Is Your Turn In x Games : With Friends.
Showing the games that you going with those listed as friends, just to save me scanning through a hundred or so games to pick them out. (i know lazy Aragon!!)
