Star - Why? What is the harm of an in-active account sitting there?

I mean it is not losing the site money - it is not taking away the game play of current players. They are just names sitting there.

coan.net
I don't see any harm on leaving in-active accounts on the site (Other then one of them might have a good "name" that another user might want - but if that is the case, i'm sure Fencer could fix that.)

Otherwise, if you start to delete account, you then have to check to see if they had played any games - make sure not to delete the games or the results for other players.

They take up very little disk space, and would probable (in my opinion) be more work to delete them, then there would be to just keep them there.

Different users. (You can go to the Player List, and you can sort by "Last Action").

I would have to search back a ways to see when I last posted these numbers, but I'm almost positive they are now higher.

Users active in the last 24 hours - 1,400
Users active in the last month - 2,700

... having around 1,400 users active in the last 24 hours is a very big number to me, and shows how this site is growing in popularity

BK2.0 will replace this one - All current games, ratings, tournament, etc... will continue.

Hopefully the user will not notice the change over - other then the added features, and the faster code that is "behind" the gamesite. (Which is why it's taking awhile - I believe Fencer is re-writing a lot of it so it runs faster and more reliable)

Yea, it's been a bug that it will sometimes show a + number, but not really be anything there.

I believe Fencer is re-writing how the tournament program works, so I think that will be going away in BK2.0

In case anyone missed it:

Slavka broke 2,000 moves yesterday! Over 1,000 more then the 2nd most active player!

I believe this is the first over 2,000 moves!

Yup, Like rose says - just do it from your Message box.

... I do that all the time when i want to send messages to BIG BAD WOLF (yes, send messages to myself so I can keep important information / notes about stuff!) :-)

Here is what I would like to see when if comes to fellowships & Favourite boards.

In the FELLOWSHIP list (which is below the Favourite boards list on my screen), I would love to see the (X new) message next to there when there are new messages in the fellowship. (And if you click on the (X new) directly, it will take you to the board to read.)

Why would this be good:
1) You don't have to have every fellowship that you belong to also on the favourite boards list - basicly listing all my fellowships I belong to twice. (the fellowship in the fellowship list, and the fellowship board in the favourite boards list)
2) Many times, users forget to add the boards to their favourite list - this way they don't have too, they will hopefully see the (X new) message and come see what has been posted.
3) It would then (for me at least) allow me to remove all the fellowship boards from my favourite list, allowing only "system" boards to be there - which would help seperate "System" boards and "fellowship" boards.

I know in Internet Explorer, the font size on a webpage will change if you hold down CTRL and use the scrool wheel on a mouse.

Since I do a lot of CTRL-C, CTRL-P (Copy/Paste) - I accedently change the font size on webpages every once and awhile.

I read that site often - along with a couple of others... which is why I'm VERY carefull about what I do there, and if I accept them on my eBay auctions.

But persoanly, I have never had a problem with PayPal.

I was actually looking at that site earlier today when I was searching for information on money bookers, since that site has a list of alternatives to PayPal.

But I always keep an open mind, and I have been reading that site for awhile now.... Hum.... I think I might have even posted about that site on this site long ago... :-)

Fencer - How soon are you planning not to accept PayPal/Swerg?

My membership is comming up soon, and even though I have not heard anything good/bad about this new site - I really don't like giving bank/credit card info to anyplace new (other then PayPal) - so I need to make sure I get my membership in before this changeover or I might have to go without a membership for awhile.... and I don't know if I could handle that! :-)

Paying members are able to play more games, giving them more rolls, giving them more doubles. But on average, it all works out.

Reminds me of a person who was complaining about this same thing months ago..... and he complained while that the dice were against him, yet he had a 2000+ rating!

(But if you really thin paying members get better dice - send in your $$ to Fencer now to upgrade your membership!) <wink wink>

Talbut Board - Good place to read and talk more about the rules of the game.

Fencer's post on April 14, 2003 - about a similar situation as mentioned below - "Should be considered as a draw but this site does not support a perpetual check detection yet."

4. Abril 2004, 04:31:10
coan.net
But the Mercenaries did not surround the king - the king "jumped" into the middle of their group.

Just like a pawn can jump in between 2 other color pawns and not be removed. (Yes, many of the rules on this site does not explain all the details - I'm sure Fencer will take help with any additional rule writing for any games) (speaking of that, Battleboats does not even have rules yet.) :-)

4. Abril 2004, 04:25:52
coan.net
Ok - Figured out the problem (After reading the Talbut message board)

Black did not surrond the white king - The white king MOVED INTO the space surroned by white pawns - which is not a lose.

Now where Lythande's game is now, White can not move at all - so I would guess what needs to happen in those cases is that it is a lose for White - maybe something Fencer will have to program sometime.

4. Abril 2004, 04:15:18
coan.net
I'm no Talbut expert, but "2 moves ago" was not a win before the king was not surronded by black completly.

And like bumble said, it looks like it should be a win now - Fencer should be able to fix it once he come on-line.

UPDATED POST: Would move 7 be a win for black? The kind is surroned by 3 spots - the forth (Other side of start) is it's own white pawn, so I would not think that would count..... But again, I don't play talbut very much

Maybe I missunderstood what you asked. Eventhing in "Box 1" which includes the BKR & Membership level is "controlled" by the continue button in middle of that box. That would be where it will be put in the waiting room, not choosing your opponenet.

1. Abril 2004, 19:36:37
coan.net
If you hit "Search" in the second box to search for an opponenet, it will bring up the next box.

For example, i put in "Rogue" and then it brings me to the next page where I can choose all the details of the game (Plus choose between 3 different people (rogue, rogue01, or Rogue Lion).

It doesn't create the game yet so feel free to try it out to see if it will give you want you want.

Fencer - thanks for posting yourself. It is nice to hear things from you then to hear them second-hand from someone else.

My Question (which may help many others with their questions): Is it my understanding that the 2 in questions will stay banned until the release of BK2.0? And then once BK2.0 is out, they will be allowed to come back.

Where would the best place be to discuss this issue. Instead of just saying go elsewhere, maybe we should decide on a board to talk about this issue which means a lot to many users here.

I think it should be a public board so everyone has a chance to read it, and now I believe the Moderators of both Fellowships & this board does not want it here.

Andersp - I think the decision from Fencer to not punish the person who removed the post from the cave is proof enough that you can copy and paste anything you want anywhere!

Well I'm sure it could easly be programed to still show the opponents last move while still having the white piece pre-selected.

23. Março 2004, 16:15:52

... it's like Maharajah Chess when you are white - I mean you KNOW which piece you are going to move, yet you have to go through an extra move to click on that piece to indecate that you are going to be moving it.

(wouldn't it be more easy - and less page hits for the server - if the white pieces was automaticly "highlighted" and ready to move)

Yea, that's a known bug which happens every once and awhile. Once Fencer logs on, he can get it fixed. (You may also want to send him a message since sometimes he does not get a chance to read the message boards every day.)

I believe the "+ ##" is for tournament that have been "Closed", but just not started yet.

So I'm sure the +176 is just a bug which Fencer should be able to fix once he see's the problem.

I agree with what Fencer said also. This is a game site.

I personaly did not pay my membership to just play games here, because there are plenty of other places I can just play games. My membership was paid for the "extras" that are above and beyond just the games.

Suggestion: If I was a new pawn to this site and had a question, I would not know to go look for customer service people on a different site! Could there be a way (like an option on the left side) to "contact customer service", or "ask a question to customer service" that pawns could use? Then have the question possible go to the "Customer Service Discussion Board" where it could then be answered and/or delt with.

OH - And something I know I do not say enough: Fencer, you are doing a GREAT JOB with the game site! Your hard work is appricated!

23. Fevereiro 2004, 18:07:10
coan.net
Fencer is the final person to decide who is bad or not.

I have not seen any bad paying members for awhile (and when i say bad, that is spam message boards & curse and such). Currently paid members are easier to control, where as a pawn could keep creating new accounts and causing the same trouble over and over. (1 bad apple.)

Fencer will have to answer about the updated version 2.0 - and if it is still going to be awhile, it might be an idea to at least open 1 or 2 of the main message boards to pawns so they can at least post any problems or questions they have.

... and The Cave, and the Sunshine Club, and the Power House, and the ...... (HEY - I did not mention any of my own fellowships either!) :-)

It may be that I understood wrong, but once BK 2.0 is out, Pawns will once again be able to post - I think it is just a temporary thing until Fencer can "control" some of the "bad pawns".

My personaly feelings about pawn accounts.

1. This is a game site, and I don't think the basic of game play should be messed with for pawns - that is up to 20 free games at a time, and 1 tournament at a time.

(and some of the changes I would like to see):

2. For non-tournament games, pawn can only play non-rated games. The purpose of this is to stop people from cheating - making free pawn accounts to help their ratings. Yes, there are plenty of good pawns who do not cheat, but in my opinion the result is better for the game site as a whole.

3. Tournament games that pawns play in can be rated. I'm still debating if (or if not) their ratings should be hidden, or shown - or including in the main ratings list, or not shown, etc....

4. I would like to see a pawn be able to join 1 fellowship as a "junior member" - that is they can see what is going on, read the message boards - but NOT join a team and NOT play in their tournaments. A few of the fellowships (Home, Madhouse, etc...) could be a very good way for a pawn to see what goes on in a fellowship and possible be a reason for them to become a paid member!. (Also with the rule that a pawn can not jump from fellowship to fellowship - but pick one - maybe have a choice of a few that the BIG BOSSes would like to help pawns, etc...) So all the pawn is really getting is another message board to read, but a chance to talk and interact with many of the nice users in these fellowships!

OK, that is all i can think of now. If a pawn is reading this and has other ideas or thoughts, you can send me a private message, and I can try to pass along your thoughts (even if they do not agree with mine!) :-)

I was thinking Fencer said the time would be turned back on Monday - so anyone with 0 time left at that time, the games will time out.

I get 400+ moves when I have fast internet connection (which is about 1-2 times a week)

But out of the past 5-6 times I had fast internet connection, only once was BrainKing not down! It will all work out, and soon I'll be down to 100-150 games total (that is my goal)

You know, if people are so worried about me posting here, if you quit posting messages to me, then I would also stop posting! :-)

rod03801 - Good idea - if a person does have it turned off, that means they can't see what others are doing also - Great idea!

Someone posted that they would leave this site if that feature was removed - well I wonder how many people have already left because that feature was here??

22. Fevereiro 2004, 19:32:44

Days like today, I'll average around 100-150 moves. A lot more then most people (if you really want to know.)

LJ - It's just getting old. You can believe what you want, that is fine - but it's getting really old that you feel the need to watch over me and stalk me and post about me "making moves" every time I make a post.

Another reason to have the privacy issue removed - to keep people from stalking you!

BBW = BIG BAD WOLF

22. Fevereiro 2004, 19:23:59

Steve R - I have admited many times that when I learned I was losing my fast internet connection, I completed many of my games.

BK went down, and we lost 3 months worth of game - 3 months of my finished games, which now meant I had all my games back without fast internet connection. Yes, it's my fault for having that many games - and I will get them played, but I did everything I could to get them played - I'm sorry I have no control over BK and it's backups.

And I'm all for Fencer not removing this privancy issue, I'm just hoping it will be an option for the people who like to stay more private.

Heck, if you want to be so open - why not let Fencer also post your Credit card numbers, and all your other personal information!

22. Fevereiro 2004, 19:20:27
coan.net
LJ - I've explained this to you many times, can't you remember?

I have a slow internet connection now - which means I have multiply windows open. I read and post on the message boards while other windows proccess my moves.

EVERY time that the site stays up when I have faster internet connection, I have always had more moved than you.

I think you are the one that need reminded since you can't seem to remember this!

Ugh...... getting very old very fast...

22. Fevereiro 2004, 19:14:05
coan.net
LJ - What the heck does that have to do with the discussion we are having????

22. Fevereiro 2004, 19:10:31
coan.net
... and for the people who like that feature, they can keep it on.

I'm the type of person who keeps their window shades down - I'm a more private person in nature.... that's just the way I am. :-)

(I'm not saying to take it away, but let it be an option to be able to turn off for who does not like it!)

22. Fevereiro 2004, 18:58:55
coan.net
Actually, I don't like the fact that anyone can see what I'm doing - If I had the option, I would turn that off. It's really no one elses business to know which games I'm playing, which boards I'm reading, or which profiles I'm looking at. (I'm hoping it will be a feature in BK 2.0 to turn it off)
