alanback: I agree, just wondering why you
don't appear taking that advice, on the backgammon
board for instance, which I use to watch because I am
interested in the game. Brainking is certainly a very
good bickering server, with moderators playing a major
role themselves. I wholeheartedly agree with Marfitalu,
told him in our games that I fear to get between the
bulldozers living out their importance here and decide
only in line with their favoritism.
What happened now that I dared, is not much better,
my question about playing here was simply buried. :-(
Marfitalu: The moderators on general chat decided that a subject was too sensitive to be discussed there. It was upsetting for many people. Debate about how right or wrong that decision was, or how it was enforced, is certainly off topic here and likely to lead back to the original discussion which is sensitive on ANY board.
I still suggest that anyone wishing to continue with that discussion do so at the specially formed yahoo group and any complaints of moderator actions be dealt with in he correct way which is contacting a global mod.
Anyone just wanting to complain because their posts were deleted might find solace in a fellowship somwewhere. The 'gripes' board at the flame pit springs to mind.
blazeinshore, Lamby: I'm all in favour of censorship in this matter. I think it was in very poor taste bringing forward a half-baked set of allegations and circumstantial evidence.
My objection regarding the censorship is about the manner in which it was carried out.
I agree, the censorship is utterly disgraceful on Gen Chat, so much so that the Gen Chat board may aswell not exist.
The subject which was being discussed was very valid and everyone should be allowed an opinion on it.
I feel this site is becoming one huge joke!
I feel so sorry for Fencer with all his hard work, he's made this a great place, but unfortunately too many idiots have spoilt it for alot of people!
playBunny: On this one we actually agree. My husband and I tend to do 'file' and 'save as' and save the complete web page in html, so that we still have a record of everyone's postings once they have vanished into thin air. Handy if you need to take them to an un-censored venue :)
harley: It's very simple in my view. Hiding and giving yourself time to deal with the people who write messages is far superior to a mass deleting of the messages and ignoring the people who wrote them. Bad decisions were most certainly made.
The effort that goes into a post doesn't matter? Please, feel free to spend a couple of hours on a post and then watch as it gets thrown away without you being given a copy, in fact without you even being informed. Would you then agree or would you be asking why you weren't simply put on hide?
How many of those people who think Jason was right actually had their work destroyed? Yes, work.
Mods normally do message the person if they delete a post, but general chat has been pretty busy today so the mod there didn't have time to message everyone.
The subject was asked not to be discussed there because its upsetting for many people. Once that was asked people should have stopped posting, and any posts made after the mod said 'stop' should be, and were, deleted. The effort going into typing them isn't really an issue for the mod, just how appropriate the post is.
Jason had a very difficult job today with some tough decisions. I realise many feel he made wrong choices but just as many think he was right. Its not as simple as right or wrong in this case.
Assunto: General Chat discussion board. Moderation in General
The moderators there are deleting posts without regard to the effort going into typing and the posts do follow the discussion board's guidelines. Jason says he deleted them because we were told to not talk about a certain subject any more, but then he blanket deletes them all. I had posted a few about a completely different topic and they were deleted also.
Just what's the deal? We are told to take it to that board and then we are told to stifle once we move it there?
And let's take a look at how that General Chat board is moderated. There's six moderators! Any one of them can delete anything unilaterly. Just what kind of a system is this? Only one moderator should have that power, this rest should just have the power to hide. And not a blanket hide either, but of each individual post. Six moderators! Ludicrous! The other five had already left the posts and some had responded. Then ol' Jason wakes up, bores of the subject, justifies his action because of the aforementioned warning and deletes them all. This is not right! Why should anyone participate in a public discussion board if their writing can be summonarily deleted at the whim of any person? If there's going to be so many moderators then all of them should need to form a concensus before deleting posts.
Just because a moderator bores of a subject or doesn't want to hear about is no reason to delete. A moderator's job is to keep the discussion on topic, without profanity, or racial epitats. That board is general chat. This means all subjects are on topic. So why do we have to have so many moderators there? One is all you need. None of my posts had any rude words in it. Statements and questions, that's it. Someone doesn't like them, too bad. I didn't write anything personal except about my own feelings. Why should I have to suffer at the hands of a lazy person that can't even take a tenth of the time to send me a message about his concerns compared to the time it took me to compose what I posted? Inconsideration is what it is.
Anencephal: Get used to that. Fungame changes his weekend days every week in order to prolong his games as much as possible. I recommend not to start any games with this sick guy.
I had a couple of periods of what I call the white page of death. I remember hearing one that the server will reset after a period of time. My guess is it did that.
I guess this server will never work reliably as long as the socalled webmaster is mainly busy with chatting and playing all the time. Barely made it to avoid timeouts, to think before moving a luxury thus.
alanback: I had the "Can't find page" version of inaccessible. As that's both the US and the UK I guess Fencer or Liquid are having a fiddle with a wire or a piece of code.
There have been two periods of time in which the site was totally inaccessible . . . has anyone else experienced that? When I clicked on a BrainKing link the browser would simply return to the page it was on before the click.
Assunto: Re: Don't worry, this is my last thought on the matter.
playBunny: I see both your sides in this, but the one thing I don't think anyone would be pleased about is seeing all the love and emotion be replaced by a disagreement, especially between two caring people.
Can't we just agree to disagree and try to get back to normal?
Assunto: Re: Don't worry, this is my last thought on the matter.
playBunny: Please, this isn't helping anyone. Theres no definite right answer here, its a delicate subject and it will do more harm than good to go over and over posts and reasons.
