<Speaking of discussion boards, I wonder if there'd be interest in a video gamers board. I know it's nothinbg to do with BK, but then, neither does poetry or diet. I figure, people here like games, perhaps they like more than just board games. Besides.. I've got a few FFX-2 questions I wouldn't mind having a few familiar faces off of which to bounce. ;>
Figured I'd bring it here to check the interest level before sending it to the FR board.
I didn't know it was supposed to be funny because --
Don't you say it!
Say what?
You know what you were going to say... don't.
Why not??
Just because. Don't say it.
Mrmphm
Erm.. what would be the intended purpose of being on your own enemy list? IOW, what are you trying to accomplish?
PS: I still don't like it being called an 'enemies' list. 'Enemy' implies intense emotion, and if anyone wound up on mine it would more likely be indifference that landed them there (mine, not necessarily theirs).
I like the idea of putting the number of fellowship messages on the fellowship public boards down next to the fellowship names in the fellowship section, IF:
You can click the little red number and go to the board, BUT clicking the name will still send you to the main fellowship page. :)
AD: Sounds like a server-side webcache (ala squid) which I've -always- had a problem with. S'posed to make your browsing go faster, but it's only ever caused me problems. :/
Fencer (re: paypalsucks): Just confirms what I've thought since the first time I went through their 'sign up now' speel (and followed some of the finer print). I've never had a paypal account, refuse to do business with anyone which requires paypal, and never will do paypal. :/ (Which is why I go through your customer reps. ;)
Believe it or not, sometimes the faster players irritate me (but just a little). If they'd just take more of the time limit to make their moves, I could get through more of my games. ;)
Oh.. and Bumble? That link takes me to the login page for some odd reason... And as to 'where has Lythande gotten off to' .. I'm off reading/playing/etc in this and other tabs. ;)
"two moves ago" ..erm.. I meant the move before last. According to the rules, black only has to surround the white king on three sides, if the throne is on the fourth. This was done -before- I captured her last pawn, moving my soldier onto the fourth side with the throne between.
<Since Fencer isn't currently on (I've already sent him a personal message), could one of you Talbut experts please check Game ID: 178202 for me? I think it should have been a win two moves ago. Now white's king is surrounded, but the game is threatening to time out. My opponent offered a draw, but only because it was the only link she could find. ;>
The only trouble with having white pre-selected is that you'd miss the 'what move your opponent made last' bit. Maybe you wouldn't miss it, but I would.
As for white always losing.. Bzzzzzzzzt. Wrong. I've won more times as white than as black. :P~~
I rather liked that feature.. Don't have to always have the same standard

start. It can make a difference. And you have to pick your opening moves in chess/checkers/salvo/etc do you not? What's the difference here? I think any of the games need to get underway before they can get 'exciting'.
I think the ignore list should prevent you from reading any messages posted or pm'd by them. You would not see messages in games from them, but any games you were currently in them with would otherwise continue until either won or resigned by either party.
After that, they would not see your games in the 'waiting' list nor you theirs. If you and they were in the same tournament, your chances of getting paired with them should not change, so if you wish to avoid it, you'd have to avoid the same tournaments. However, even in these games, you'd only have to play, not talk. Might be incentive to hurry up and play those games to get them over with. ;)
/ignore is a useful feature. "You [edited]because..." just adds fuel to small fires. *edit* turns bonfires into signal fires
Although an interesting question in re Fencer, I disagree completely with reasons and a copy sent the plonkee. It goes along with the other suggestion I agree with, which is to change the name of that list to 'ignore' list. Sometimes you just want to read a board without having to scuffle through the 47 posts of someone saying the same thing over and over. You don't want to make them feel bad, and you don't have any intentions of leaving them on the list. You just want to ignore them for a while. Silently dropping them on a list is a lot less painful than saying, "Okay, you're an enemy and here's why."
Perhaps the pawns should have a pawns(and white king)-only fellowship where they could post their thoughts on us where we couldn't read them? (And have one non-rated tournament going in the fellowship at any one time.)
On occasion, the country does make a difference... on others it could be the city or even that street. It depends on the route taken and the hardware along that path, as well as your own machine and the server(s).
*sigh* Slow players don't "ruin it for everyone else", they ruin it for you. I don't mind a bit, I adjust -my- games for my benefit, not requests others modify -their- schedule for my benefit.
rod03801: One of the most popular (and irritating) myths today is that the desire for 'privacy' equates to 'secrecy'. Just because I don't want anyone who feels like it to go nosing into my business (or personal life) does -not- mean I'm trying to hide things. Perhaps some people just don't like feeling like they're under a microscope.
LJ: No one suggested it be removed completely, just that it be an option to turn it off. For those mentioned in the paragraph above.
And please stop with the 'get back to your games' BS. I have games that aren't played. I'm not going stop reading just because you're in a hurry. BBW isn't under your requirements, either.
I also use multiple windows (tabs, actually, in my case). Just because you look when he's posted doesn't mean you know what he's doing, nor give you the right to call him a liar. It's his business.
I also agree with the 'if you turn on privacy it's a two-way street' idea. It's kind of like some of the MUDDs ... If you want to ask where someone is, you must let them know where you are, as well.
"If as it seems possible to accept $5 entry fees without penalty... WHY NOT LEVY A SIMILAR CHARGE ON THE PAWNS?
Is it seriously being suggested that there are not at least 1000 of these people able and willing to make such a payment? "
Maybe 1000 are, but how do you choose 1000 to levy the charge on? Even if 5000 are able does not mean every pawn is able (&& can justify the personal cost/value ratio).
Pioneer54:
"Ordinarily, in business practice, it is customary for a salable product to be developed before ANY revenue is incurred.".... And yet, look at MicroSoft, and I'll bet you purchase products from them.. and they have -yet- to develop a 'problem-free' product.
<I thought moderation was something Fencer offered to persons he felt he could trust. Unless, of course, I've missed a 'create new public message board' link somewhere. :>
*sigh* I really hate to add to this joyful banter, but nhb, I played on IYT (and still do) at all times of day and night for three years now, and still have only seen one case of less-than-savory conversation. At that, once I'd declined the non-game invitation, we have had at least one game going since, and nothing further has been said. We do, however, enjoy friendly banter, so even those that you (betwixt the lines) call cyber-freaks have other things about their personalities than sex.
Point: Harley got it right. We don't need to go bashing other sites. I didn't come here to 'get away' from anything. I came here because an IYT friend suggested I check it out. I did, I liked it, and now I'm a paid member of -both- sites.
"I know its tempting to compare BrainKing to other games sites, but I would ask that you don't make insulting remarks about other sites. They are not here to defend themselves and it isn't helpful to BrainKing. Thanks :o)"
Besides that, some of us play on both and are not fond of being called, "wackos and weirdos who crept out at night... "
Hmmm... Was there a change in anti-checkers? I've never noticed the game make the next players jumps for them before. A setting I've missed perhaps? Or does it still say 'finish move by...' when you try to move in a game that was played in another window?
When Fencer bumps a defeated pawn from one tourney so they can join another, it doesn't affect their performance record in the one in which they were bumped, does it?
Who was the Welsh vocalist, if you don't mind my asking? And who is your 'favorite guitarist of all time'? (You obviously avoid name-dropping, too. ;)
I'm sorry to say, you're not the world's biggest hoarder, I am. On the bright side, though, you seem like you might come in a close second. :) (Bet my key collection is bigger than yours ;) Do you happen to have an extra 1926 D28 Herringbone you could spare?
On the whole a very interesting interview with a very interesting (and secretive) person. :) Good job!
