The captain should build a good team and keep communication lines wide open as to the successes and challenges of each team. Communication is everything, which is why it is good to have captains. The Big Bosses would have a ton of work organizing and following up on every challenge in every game. But if the Big Boss wanted to, couldn't she or he be the captain of every team anyway?
