Smiler.: OK back in the earlier years there were thousands playing each day and only a minimal of these are now playing...Fencer used to be on here every day talking to us and making us all feel welcome...Now there isnt a hidenor heair of him to be seen. you have only been here for a couple of years, Ive been here for about 25 years so you have no idea what it was like back in the day...It might still be the best but it isnt a smidgeon of what it used to be. and as one of the old timers on here said in another group...it used to take just about all day to read everything and play the games now it only takes about an hour.
Bernice: This site has not deteriorated since Fencer decided he wanted to sell it. You can still play all the games and he does regular updates. This is sill the best game site to play games in.
Bluefin: this place has been deteriorating since Fencer said that he wanted to sell of something and want going to do any more on this site....something or similar to anyway
I have answered my own question about chess, and chess variant tournaments. It's sad to say , but Brain King is slowly Dying. Went through 152 pages of people that have logged in. Found 73 still active, less than half of those were paid members. :-(
Bluefin: Hello Bluefin, and any other Chess variants tournament players.
I have started doing quarterly tournaments occasionally. Currently the only one going at this time is an Embassy Chess tournament. The first round is almost complete, and cannot be joined now. I think next month I will start another tournament, and maybe a couple of other variants, such as Dark Chess. If you'd like to be notified, let me know, and I'll send an invitation your way. I do post the tournament in its matching discussion board. You should check those from time to time for games of your interest. This discussion board is not as good of a place for game notifications.
I use various Fischer clock timing controls to keep the games moving. You usually need to move two to four times a week and can build up a time limit of around 8 days. Some games can take lots of moves, other games are faster with less moves, such as Connect6 which I might also get a couple tournaments going.
Aganju: I've an iPad. I've tried and I could even choose “select all” for the complete text, and it works ! I didn't know I had this feature on my tablet. Now I'll use it. Thank you very much for this very practical information.
Mélusine: I can't speak for *all* tablets, but on iPads you can select text by putting your finger on the beginning (or end) and hold, and then drag to the other end. after letting go, a little menu appears, where 'Translate with Google' is an option (as is 'Lookup' which googles it, nice if there is a word or phrase you don't know). I have no other tablets, but I would guess Androids offer something similar.
rod03801: I didn’t know. Thank you for this information. But I can't do it because I use a tablet so I've no mouse. If you have an idea for tablets, I'm interested.
rod03801: I'm aware of that, but I wasn't sure if it works on all platforms, so I didn't mention it. It works for me under iOS, iPadOS, and Windows 10.

Aganju: In Chrome, you can even just highlight with your mouse and right click, and right in the menu, it offers to translate, rather than go to Google Translate. (It pops up in small window at the top right of the screen)
Bernice: Бих искала да говоря с теб на суахили. I would like to speak to you in Swahili. Предполагам, че можете да използвате гугъл преводач, ако не ви се занимава просто подминете.
Bernice: for general info: you can always copy and paste unknown text into google translate (https://translate.google.com/?sl=auto&tl=en&op=translate) and it will not only tell you the translation, but also what source language it was.
Bernice: Oh yes, I know. I admit that I teased you a little. It's the bulgarian language. Bulgarian is written with the cyrillic alphabet, which isn't common for us.
BadBoy7: Just a humorous interlude and I wanted to speak french at least once. And I also thought that everyone would find a translator on the net for this short french sentence.
Carpe Diem: You would not believe but we are now in the middle of a heat wave... it is so humid - 87% humidity....but I guess that is what ya get living in the tropics hahahaha...Have a nice day.
