Caissus: You know that it was not Ed's fault that the tournament had disappeared. It's up to him if he wants to resurrect it or not. And if he decides to start another big prize tournament, why not? It's everyone's right to create any tournament he wants. If you have better idea [and money for prizes], you can do it yourself, there are no limitations.
Cassius, more people play Gothic Chess in "heartland" USA than where I started it all in Philadelphia. We sold over 400 sets in only 3 days when we were in Kansas City.
The reason why you see Gothic Chess in only one place is because of the patent. This is what we want!
I have postcards from players from all over the world who play Gothic Chess. One of the scientists in Anarctica has a Gothic Chess set with him. A solidier in Iraq wrote to me and said his supply chief showed him a Gothic Chess board and he wants one when his tour of duty is up.
Gothic Chess was going to be a recurring monthly article in Chess Life before they cut the page count back to under 40 per month when it was discovered that some widespread misuse of funds had left them nearly bankrupt.
Gothic chess is played all over the world, whether you elect to notice it or not.
It is not a small organization, it is one constantly being revamped to accommodate its growth.
Look how many people on this site have Janus chess ratings, and look how many have Gothic ratings. Start a new game of Janus and one of Gothic, then look at the stats showing the counts of how many of each have been played.
This is just a small subset of the entire Gothic Chess community.
One teacher in Canada wrote to me and said he assigned an extra credit project to the computer science students to write a Gothic Chess program. Anything like that happening in Germany??
Yes Fencer,it was not his fault that the tournement disappeared. But he had offered and promised a $ 3000 prize to us.Nobody has asked him for it.He had the prize offered voluntarily. And now he withdraws only because of the crash? We can repeat and continue the tournement. This is not okay!
First of all, the money had to be earned. I was not just handing it out. There would be 4 finalists, and I was going to be one of those finalists. Before anyone got $3000, they would have to get past me.
I offered the money, of course, but I am not using the crash of the site to not dispense of it. Let's just say you were winning 3 games and one of your opponents, once he saw your attack, now avoided his weak move and gets a draw with you? Furthermore, suppose he resigns a game he had a draw in previously, an the person he resigned to now advances to the finals and you do not?
You would be the first to complain.
The only fair thing to do was put the decision to a vote, which I did do, any everybody voted to cancel the tournament as you can see if you read the posts.
And even at GameKnot.com players from other countries acknowledge the game and playing me (Cal is calling me "World Champion" although I personally have never used this title)
If you read the posts, bwildmanm you will see that I intend to run one in 2004. The question was $10,000 prize with an entrance fee, or no fee and just the title.
Hey guys,
what's the problem anyway? Prize tournaments are only an addition to BrainKing features and all of them are created on volunteer basis. The tournament director can define his own rules. Who does not like it, does not have to participate in the tournament.
That's the general rule. There are lots of other tournaments that had disappeared after the crash. Why don't you complain about them too?
bwildman, how can we possibly resume it without the complete restoration? Look at chesscarpenter, he already aced his way in and won his section. Does he have to win again?
I called for a vote, and everyone who voted said to kill the 2003 event
If you have a complaint, lodge it with the voters in private and ask them why they wanted it removed.
The 2003 event is gone.
if you don't want to play in 2004, then just don't enter it. There will be no event in 2003, it is mid November already.
Okay, let's finish this topic. The final result is that the 2003 Gothic Chess Championship is cancelled and there is nothing else to do with it. No further discussion can change it.
Well Fencer...since you asked...I'm not complaining...nor am I speculating.Gothic Inventer asked and I asked him in return.Maybe I was confused at 1st...but I was under the impression that tourny would be resumed..heck...I'm still confused. But last time I checked....none of the other Tourny's had $3000.00 price tags on them...and only one has been reposted. If Gothic doesn't appreciate my concern or that of others...perhaps he shouldn't ask for our opinions.
Our there any BrainKing tourny's such as this planned Fencer? I mean im sure if you were to host a twice yearly one with price money (entry fee ofcourse) it may generate some revenue for BK?
I know only one person who would have also economic interests in
a server-crash to blur the verbal traces left by weeks of his execrable
notoriousness, awww and what a nice co-incidence, probably the only
one too, who's granted to upload scripts to brainking, because the
gothic homepage is hosted there ... now that is a speculation ...
documented then that I already had won my tourney-group,
but easy speculation again who was not pleased by right that ... blah ~*~
Subiectul: Re: but if I'd be forced to speculations
Dano: Please don't write about "coincidences", I'm starting to be allergic to this word. And nobody except me and Liquid is granted to upload anything to BrainKing.com site. And I'm not going to write more details about the structure and security of our servers.
bwildman: I understand your attitude. If I had a chance, I would have restored all missing games [including the ones from the mentioned tournament] and everything could continue with no problems. Unfortunatelly, it is not possible.
Aragon: Hmmm, not a bad idea. But I would like to finish some more urgent things first :-)
Why not use the $3k that was not awarded to this year's champ to cover the entry fee of the first 60 (if the fee is $50) players into the next one. Or perhaps first for the folks who were in the interrupted one. That certainly seems fair and generous to me. No one would complain about any appearances by you to hoard the funds (and I'm not saying that you are!!).
Anyone else want to take all the BS off all the boards and put it somewhere???? Try the FLAME PIT. This will be a one stop, all you can eat, trash talking, in your face DB. Lets move all the junk off the public boards into here.
Subiectul: To Whoever Said There Was Only One Vote...
I count 3 for stopping the tournament, and 1 recent one for continuing it.

thanks for asking, Ed
I for one find myself with far too many ongoing GC games from previous tournaments to start new commitments right now.
VOTE: A
ChessCarpenter Re: Vote on 2003 World Championship

I think that it's fair to everyone that the tournament be started over in 2004! I had 6 wins and 1 game to be decided, so I think I would be affected more than anyone since I had already made it to the 2nd round!!
So my VOTE=A
GothicInventor Vote on 2003 World Championship
9. November 2003, 16:47:25
My message box was full of mail about people who were winning whose games were lost, etc. So, should we just scrap the whole event and just run one in 2004?
Vote:
A - delete the 2003 Tournament
B - keep it, but start it when we get back to 32 rooks and 48 pawns.
36 Grandmasters in the USA and 55 Grandmasters in in the much smaller Germany shows the difference.
After new hard- and software is installed I will try to bring one of them to play here a simultan event, perhaps in Janus or Gothic.
Some of the posts were not even remotely on topic, and they were removed. Some were still off topic and were left here for no apparent reason, just to keep happy those who view DBs as "permanent archives" of sorts.
Shall we dispense of the Gothic Chess vs. Janus Chess discussion?
Subiectul: Re: Stevies Anti reversi Prize Tourny 2nd try
NOT MUCH TIME LEFT TO SIGN UP
Hi all, as part of the KM November sponsor a pawn campaign just before the crash. So here we go again, it would be nice to see the same players sign up. There were 20 before, so if we get more this time, the more the merrier :o)
Stevies Anti Reversi Prize Tourny 2nd try Have fun :o)

Subiectul: Re: Gothic Chess vs. Janus Chess discussion
I imagine some of the tidbits were interesting to the general readership, but I did not want it evolving into a "the variant I like best is better than the variant you like best" contest.
Both have strong advocates that have at least tried the game more than occasionally. Both have strong followings in their own countries.
Since tournaments were discussed in the midst of the diatribe, this is correct place for the postings. But now I think all that needed to be said was said.
what has poor Auntie Margarete done to you ? 0:)
ah blah, you have been a rude rowdy anyway - all the time
that's not auntie's fault - now Uncle Theodor is solely your problem ... ~*~
but would be a bad idea next time when it comes to losing a gothic game
against a Janus expert, instead of again exposing the same strange amnesia
you suffered last time - dunno whether you have green teeth, but that's no
bluetooth yet - anyway when server-crashes should continue to have direct
impact, on your own memory too, you probably should stay disconnected
- i.e. sheer technically - oh yes, from sportsmanship you cAn,
easily of course, since long, as we know. good job for a start ... :P ... ~*~
Hey Dano,
your last posts on this board are definitely off-topic and it's a miracle that Ed still don't use his moderator functions [ban/hide].
Provocations don't work anywhere on BrainKing and never will do. Please don't make me try the "account suspension" feature on you [someone must be the first to try it on him]. I think that we had a deal from the recent past. Take it as the last warning.
you should better try that with the notorious goatic cheater !
who's always off topic when behaving like a wildboar to
waste the boards and, who rabies-like attacks erraneously
when screwing up periodicly as many here have had to suffer.
(do you want me forwarding the complete board of yesterday
before he started his uhhmm selective deleting to blur traces ?
insulted me continuously, hours ! while I dodged like a boarero.)
about two dozens complaints about his bullying, to his domain here at your server, have also been deleted silently - ah blah !!
**************************************************
He offered 'unlimited' cheater support to all my opponents and,
you dare to warn me for documenting where the money stinks ?
Careful, deadend of culture, I sadly have to warn you. :(
<I complained about a deliberately canceled tournament
- I had already won my group and an announced prize thus ...
onto that I made a bit fun at a poll consisting of only 3 votes ... :P
big deal.
c'mon this is the tournament board we aren't in kindergarden are we ?? >8(
he could have left it by that one growling comment, my *promises promises*
and end of my debate. no not so mister obsessive nerd. he started
an endless chain of uncreative and illiterate provocations like
he did also - out of the blue - last weekend at the bk.com board
(violating any intelligence, remember guys ? I was supposed to have
taken illigitimate advantage by uhhhm double vacancy days .... :O huh ??
so because I had official vacancy days while the server was down anyway,
I gained advantage ?? no way to play so why should I waste vacancy ...)
I succeeded in lightmindedly dodging that ridicoulous assaults beyond
any niveau and intelligent observation - not without help of course
- from the Holy Lotos and ... :D ... Auntie Margarete ... :P ... ~*~
I could just offer a naughty joke in The Cave to cheer you up :")
the chess boards are my domain here
- as I stated repeatedly without success.
I know too well how it is when every now and then,
- there's of sudden noise around and you're told it's
about you, not only then I prefer to be left alone anyway - darn ...
I cannot please all folks either - not with every post after all.
good morning, chief :D
thanks for you have spoken ;)
guess Mr. Trice will not be pleased to hear that
you have made VERY clear that he cannot command
you around, here. He's really a bit hard on grasping. ~*~
