Fencer: I just thought of this - what if, for example, i were to be 20,000 (or anything greater than 10,000) on the first round, and not change it for the 2nd round? :-)
Hrqls: Saying "I don't think nothing on this site is grammatically incorrect." is the same as saying "I do think something on this site is grammatically incorrect." which is not what I was saying at all :-)
Just beside the "Message" box (the one you type a new message in) is a "Search in posts" box. You can type in any string you like to search all the posts for it. If you would like to search for a certain user, just type in their name. It'll return all of their posts plus any containing their name.
Edit: Ok, i just tried it and it doesn't find posts by that user, just posts with that user's name.
Can there please be a more obvious distinction (like a larger space, or even just a Horizontal Rule) between the rounds of a tournament? (ie: between the last section of round 2 and the first section of round 1)
Unicode is another character system, like ascii. Since the ascii character set (the one most widely used, including on this site) nearly restricts characters to english, it does not work so well for languages that are not english. Unicode support will make it much easier for Fencer to support additional languages.

Features in development (sorted by priority):
Pro Backgammon (with doubling cube).
Ludo.
Ladders.
Full Unicode support.
How about adding a column to the list of unfinished games on profiles: "Started" or something like that. It would list the date (and time?) that the game was started, and the list could be sorted by that column.
Right now, considering there are only single games, a gammon and backgammon are just a normal win.
Do not get the "n-point" matches currently on this site confused with those of backgammon with the cube. The "n-point" matches here currently are just a series of single games, played until one player reaches the set number of points (win = 1 pt, draw = 1/2 pt).
If you mean "How soon are we getting the cube?", right after "BKR history and graphs." and "Bug #19." (Display a player's games with me only).
How about forms somewhere on each page (at the bottom, at the top, wherever) where we can type in a number to jump to a certain game, or a certain Player's profile (by player number, of course).
It would be a quick way to go to a game if you know the number (like when someone posts the number on a DB), or to go to someone's profile for which you know the number.
Or like what they have on GoldToken works good - a Jump to Game# is listed at the bottom of each page (right above the Copyright) and the Jump to player (they use player name, but either would work) is at the bottom of each profile.
How about being able to click somewhere (Maybe the fellowship name, maybe the picture, maybe somewhere else) to display a page with all of that team's tables against the other teams - just like clicking on the "-", "1" or "0", except it would display them all for that team.
And maybe also from the "Player results" page being able to view all of that players' games (in progress and completed) from that tournament.
Right - the whole splitting of the completed game database by year thing...
It would probably be better anyways to have a separate page for number of completed games of each game type separated by year - one for 2002, one for 2003, etc (like on players' profiles)
And how about also adding a page that displays the number of completed games of each game type? (or even on the same page - either in another column beside the "running games" column or in a separate chart altogether)
The rules say: "If a pieces moves up, it cannot move down (back to the square where it was before the up move) in the next turn, a different move must be done first."
I take that to mean as long as any different move is made in between (even a different piece) that you could move a piece back to where it came from.
That wouldn't be possible for a collapse to result in no open spaces - there will always be space beside or above the rows or columns that just shifted.
No, if the queen moved like a king because that's what the programmer intended it is NOT a bug. A bug is when the code doesn't do what is desired. If the code does exactly what you planned for it to do, it is COMPLETELY bug free.
grenv: Actually, if the code is acting as intended, that is the exact definition of bug free code! Like Fencer said, just because it allows you to perform a move against the official rules of backgammon doesn't make it a bug - it makes it a missing or unimplemented feature or rule.
On a game of Jarmo I was playing against harley she did a move that did not capture one of my pieces, yet the only piece that she had captured (that I hadn't placed back on the board) was highlighted as if she did capture it.
You could maybe list another, different coloured number next to the pieces that were captured on that turn. Like beside the green frog it might say "2, 12" meaning two on this turn and 12 total. Or you could just list the images of the frogs that were captured on that turn above the number of captured frogs box - like the captured pieces on every other game are displayed...and then the number of points on that turn beside those frogs.
It is listed at the top of this board under "Features in development:" which I believe means he has already started on it. But if not it at least means he is planning on adding it :-)
Actually, Fencer has told me auto-pass would be very easy to add (and anyone with basic programming knowledge would know this). So you can either accept that it isn't going to happen because Fencer does not want to add it and drop it, or continue to complain about it and cause real feature requests to be missed because of it.
You also have to realize that even if Fencer was planning on adding autopass, it wouldn't happen right away. There are other far more important things for Fencer to do first.
I don't have to answer - i'm trying to help Fencer. You don't have to believe me if you don't want to. But I think Fencer has made it clear he is not going to add Autopass....
1. If a move is auto-passed, there is no possibility of sending a message with that move. Some players may still like to chat even if one player must pass many moves in a row.
2. If a player is new to a game, many passes in a row can leave the game very different from when they last saw it. Chances are very good they will think it is a bug in the system and we will end up with many many "Why did my opponent get to move more than once in a row? Are they cheating??" or "This game doesn't look right. What happened?" or something like that.
Feel free to argue with these reasons. It's been done many times before and hasn't helped, so I'll tell you know arguing with them won't help this time.
for this "Battleboats Bonus" to work, either autopass is required or a pass is required between each hit. Autopass is NOT happening (has been mentioned over and over again), and passing 10 moves in a row while your opponent keeps hitting isn't possible either. It is CRUCIAL that the move has to be submitted before it reveals the hit/miss or if it said your turn was over you could just go back and pick another square.
Exactly - if you can place it where i've already shot then I have to literally search the whole board for every ship I look for. However, if you have to place it where I have not shot - possibly disallowing you from placing it - then it could be possible.
The game would literally never end? It takes one move to put the ship back on the board and AT LEAST two shots to sink it...any ship would never stay off the board for more than a few moves unless your opponent could constantly guess exactly where your ships are...
It was discussed a while ago regarding combining chess variants. Fencer said it would be extrememly simple to add combination variants with the way the system is currently set up. However, where does it stop?
Dark Gothic, Loop Gothic, Extinction Gothic, 3-checks Gothic, Dark Janus, Loop Janus, Extinction Janus, 3-checks Janus, Dark Loop Gothic, Dark Loop Janus, Dark loop, Dark 3-checks Gothic, Dark 3-checks Janus, Dark 3-checks, Dark Extinction, Dark Extinction Gothic, Dark Extinction Janus, and on, and on, and on...Not only would it be very difficult to distinguish these games (aside from the name at the top - not a big problem), but it would simply be WAY too many games and would be almost identical.
That is coming eventually - along with everything else people want. Be patient, and it will happen.
In the mean time, you could always purchase a membership and it'll come that much faster...or, better yet, you can join all the tournaments you want...! :-)
