Modificat de SMIRF Engine (31. Octombrie 2005, 10:47:33)
Anencephal: I have sent a C++ file to you here, but it is not keeping its formatting. We should communicate by email. Anyone who wants it could ask me for that CRC/Chess960 numbering scheme.

SMIRF Engine:
Thanks for remarks. Writing a chess program is a heavy project , thanks to Smirf, Zillion and ChessV I have found many bugs in it and its
little and bigger brothers. Fereshte and the grand chess program are now stable when running without hashtable.
when using hashtable, I had crashes outside IDE with release version of them but they are not repeatable , it doesn't crash when I follow that line.
It's a strange program, sometimes plays good moves, another time misses a simple pawn fork :-)
sorry , programming is just a hobby for me, I was wasting processor power with unnecessary renders, a few lines solved it , you can also free it by opening load/save windows :-)
I liked to use the same numbering but couldn't guess the routine of smirf, many thanks if I can have it.

Anencephal: Thank you to give us that download possibility! I loaded and started it. The first impression is, that here is a new sophisticated program with an own GUI, what is double work, which should be honoured! The first view detected a surprising amount of functionalities. Some remarks:
a) You seem to have implemented a different numbering scheme, why? I could supply you with a standard position generating subroutine.
b) Your program seems not yet absolutly stable. It crashes when answering to following:
P.S.: c) Your program uses a permanent brain (or at least 50% processor capacity). This should be off switchable when playing against another program at the same computer.
d) it could help to have any sound, when a move has been calculated.
While we like to hear of and discuss interesting games, including Gothic Chess, it has become apparent that there are a number of messages appearing promoting or discussing websites other than BrianKing. Unless the messages are to reveal something startlingly new about these other sites I would ask you refrain, they will be deleted anyway and persistent contravention will result in the poster being hidden.
Caissus: if Ed was right about the money those guys wanted, there is probably no way the match will happen. Who would sponsor millions of dollars for such an obscure game?
Pythagoras: I think Andreas is right : Fisher has no chances against Kasparow or the other strong players of the world. He is too old and has not played tournement games since a very long time...
Pythagoras: Ed is there every
tuesday night at about 6pm EST. Like Andreas said, its best to post a time when you'll be on at the Forum for all to see!
Pythagoras: If you would annonce in advance that you will be online, then may be somebody would play with you. I think the best place to make such annoncements is on Gothic Chess Forum.
I don't think Fisher will play with Kasparov, not even Fisher Random Chess... Kasparov is younger and would easily win.

I want to see Pythagoras play Cartaphilus, that would be a great game!
And what if Cartaphilus is the Robert Fischer himself....? I mean what he has more to do in the cold Iceland from playing games....?
By the way is there any progress on Bobby Vs Garry event......?
I was online the last 2 days on GCLive for about half an hour but nobody played me because nobody was there. Are any scheduled times that i should log in?
ChessCarpenter: But ist is curious, that only 29 of the 150 members have played at least one game .Are the most players not able to play a 10 minutes game?
What a difference playing blitz is versus turn based! There are some very strong blitz players emerging on http://www.GothicChessLive.com playing some amazing games. Check out this one:
One of the players Ed calls the "Bobby Fischer of Gothic Chess", his name is Cartaphilus. Cartaphilus has beaten some strong players from BrainKing, like:
By the way the interesting match GV Gold II beta against Smirf 1.29 continues at: this site.
Also after my current tournament will finish, i will play with the newer at that time Smirf (if it will be available) using a small opening book i'm developing in order to give it much better play....
So Zillions of Games shows a nice performance! I didn't expected this.... At Round 7 it beat with black Smirf 1.20 with a strange way. The opening moves was not good for Smirf nor ZoG but Smirf managed to play better and had a slighly better position, although it has shown a much more optimistic evaluation. I thought it would win but it played some dubious moves and after a crushing attack by ZoG it lost the game......
The other game needs no comments, Gothic Vortex scored a point convincingly against the old Smirf 0.59.
Round 7 SM1.20 - ZoG = 0-1
GV - SM0.59 = 1-0
Me bye....
Pythagoras: Thank you for performing that tournament! I simply want to explain, that because of SMIRF's multi-reiterative approach the size of the used cache is very important. It should be set to 80 MB or 160 MB if possible.
Round 6 had me lose for the first time and that was with my favourite at this game white pieces! My bad opening play and especially my awful 15.Ng3?? decided the game immediately.......
Gothic Vortex from the other side, had an easy win against Zillions of Games......The game from ZoG's side was too stupid to give it.....If anyone is interested just say it, to post it....
Round 6 Me - SM1.20 = 0-1
ZoG - GV = 1-0
SM0.59 bye....
I see Pythagoras and his matches with Vortex and other programs being posted here and I thought you should all know there is a completely new version of the program that is super strong now. Ed has reworked the engine almost from the ground up.
A summary of what has been changed/added/enhanced:
-Intelligent 7-piece and 6-piece search extensions
-Partial 6-piece tablebase slices
-High Frequency Filtering
-Retuned Quick/Detailed Evaluation Function
-New Piece Weights
-Nonlinear King Tropism Matrices
For a very long and interesting description of what this means, here is the link:

Pythagoras:
a) Good to see you continuing your engine testing.
b) If you would edit your posting end replace the line break inserted by brainking in the X-FEN line by a space, we would become able to load the game by cut and paste.
c) SMIRF now has come to the version 1.29, but it still will be improved.
d) If you would be interested in SMIRF's special Perft results (completely analyzing moves e.g. whether they are check threats or even mates) you could see SMIRF's current results here:
FEN: rnbqckabnr/pppppppppp/10/10/10/10/PPPPPPPPPP/RNBQ CKABNR w KQkq - 0 1
I haven't much time lately that's why i didn't run any new rounds. I'm back at normal now......
Round 5 continued with an adventure win for me against GV. What a game! Game started after the opening with a favourable for me position, as i had set up for a typical "Gothic Vortex" attack and at
this point it seemed clear to me that G.V could not resist in any way.....My anti-comp game leading to an invisible for GV attack worked perfectly! And after 19.Ci3 i was sure that my attack was unstopable!
But the damn GV proved with precise moves, that there was a defense and after my primary attack
lost its power, GV seemed better. Then i created a smaller attack but again it was obvious that it will not lead anywhere....The final position before the endgame? I had a Bishop and a Rook against the
Queen of GV with a semi-open position, being one Pawn behind too. GV played generally wrong the
endgame allowing my h2-Pawn to advance to h7 so the game was draw anyway since GV had the option of
repeating the moves, giving checks.......
But then G.V played a terrible move -64...d3??- not continuing the series of checks and i immediatelly found the easy win......The bad thing for G.V is that after all exchanges that led to a position Rook+Bishop+1Pawn for me against 7 Pawns of GV, didn't show a decisive advantage for me but only a slight one......
This is logical since the capturing of Pawns would occur after many maneuvers and many plies later,
but todays programs are not "bean counters" that have to reach many plies to see the truth, but they
are supposed to be more knowledgeable.....GV is not a bean counter but not so knowledgeable as it has
to travel a long way until this happens.....
There was also the win of Zillions of Games against Smirf 0.59. I have underestimated ZoG after all! It is showing a rather nice performance...... ZoG in this game, ouplayed SM0.59 completely......
Round 5 Me - GV = 1-0
ZoG - SM0.59 = 1-0
SM1.20 bye....
Grim Reaper is no longer able to reply to messages or to post on the message boards. That's why we haven't heard from him in awhile. beyond that I don't know anything else (you'll have to contact ed to know any more, I'm just the messenger).
WhisperzQ: That current game (as of this post) is not over. The previous game (click on the number "1" on the page) was completed, and they started the game there.
Luke Skywalker: a) As seen in http://brainking.com/de/ArchivedGame?g=1111972 CRC is sufficiently complex even without unprotected pawns. So having 48000 candidates it seems to be a good idea to select those about 40% more stable starting arrays.
b) The king could castle with the c-side Rook and becoming placed at the third file (c) from left, or with the i-side Rook and becoming placed at the second file from right (i). The Rook will find its place then on the King's inner neighbour square.
Hi, I've got two questions about CRC:
1) Why would initial positions with unprotected pawns be forbidden? In Chess960 there are also initial positions with unprotected pawns. (and it's not stated in the brainking rules).
2) How is castling performed? The BK rules state that the final position is like chess, but that's not possible due to the different board sizes.
