this afternoon I logged onto AOL, to find a notice saying there is an update available for broadband drivers, it only takes a couple of minutes to download and it should improve connection.
I downloaded it - it jammed up, then started throwing error messages at me about files not found and incomplete driver installations. I ended up looking at a black screen, with tiny white dots all over it.
So, I tried to remove that driver and install the original one, but it wouldn't let me. I rang AOL technical support after an hour or so of shouting at the screen, and they talked me through a long process to re-install the original drivers.
They said there has been a LOT of problems with these downloads, and they guy I spoke to had spent the entire day just on these calls. He hadn't taken a call about any other problem!
So if you're on AOL, think twice before downloading their 'new and improved' driver! It took me nearly 4 hours to get rid of it and install the original again!
That's not a bad idea Rose. Perhaps I could make this feature on BK for paying members. You define a lists of macros/actions, activated by a single click. Would it be interesting?
Well...You can add an entry to the "Tools" menu that will launch a script, launch an executable or (if you have the expertise) load an ActiveX control.
Is it possible to make macros in XP for IE
such as making a macro that says Good luck? I did a search in google an all I see to find is software to make macros.
OK, I give. the Auto-Refresh feature is no longer working for me. Unfortunately, I am not sure when it stopped. I just know, I can't get it to work, now. Any suggestions?
Note: I cannot get it to work in IE 6.0 or FireFox 1.0. I do have AdWatch and AdAware installed, but I it stopped working before I installed them.
Well.. I know they are saved as a dbx file.. I honestly can't remember the steps to how I saved them. I know it ended up being a click of a button.. since I needed to erase my hard drive and didn't have the time to individually go into each one and copy and paste to my word.. I think I just did the save as.. and it saved each and everyone of my files even the inbox and the deleted folders content..
I have tried several ways to get the messages back into the proggie.. I attached them to an email from my Yahoo and tried sending them to my main email..
I was trying to do the import export thing.. but, really get confused which one I use.. Like.. would I go into OE.. and hit the import.. and then pick the files.. Or do I go to the files.. and export them Outlook..
It is probably something really simple.. although, I don't have 35 dollars an hour to call a tech at Outlook.. And as far as reading up on it.. I have too many other things happening in my life at the current time.. that I just didn't have the time to put into it.. After the New Year.. I will have to unless this is enough infor for you to learn to help me..
*sorry if I sound scatter brained.. been surviving on very little sleep the past several nights..*
UGH! I HATE COMPUTERS! My home computer is no longer working. (Don't ask how I somehow got firefox to work just long enough to make sure I could read my mail and check my games.)
... time to reload XP.
Stupid computer!
(sorry, just needed to vent that to someone. I'm sure the Moderator will delete this if he can get the computer working again.)
About a month ago I had to reformat my hard drive and before doing so I saved all my files in my OE6.. I then copied them on to cd.. Well, I reformatted and then reinstalled and now when I try to view those files from OE6.. since they are on my desk top.. when I click the file it brings up the OE6 proggie but won't let me open it.. arggh.. does anyone know how I can get back into these files..
I have lots of NAMI, LIONS and past Homework assignments in them that I don't wish to lose..

BBW, you are very welcome! I've used the site before, but the extension is just awesome. There is no need to type username or password or even hit the button. right-click, select bugMeNot and you are in.
Thanks vitalik for telling me about "bugmenot" - I had to get a password from a site which i think was in German (which I can't read), and it would not let me sign up, etc.. etc... etc... But using bugmenot got me in long enough to find what I needed.
i've downloaded and installed it, plus a few extensions and themes (my favorite so far is Noia 2.0 (extreme). The only problem i've found so far is this. Myself and my girlfriend both play on this site and when we used IE, we could open 2 seperate windows with different logins and then just swap between them in turn. But Firefox won't let me do that. Everytime i open a second login, then click on the first, it open up the second one in that window also, and vice-versa. Is there something i can change in the setting to overcome this?
Subiectul: Prefsbar for Mozilla ! :) (includes proxy-switcher/list)

for firefox is, apart of some uncommon specials,
what would come up my mind after the mentioned examples. ~*~
Translate - thanks to Fencer,
MapIt - maps any highlighted address to mapquest.com
BugMeNot - if you don't know what that is, check out bugmenot.com website. That's a database of login/passwords for many websites that require free registration.
Also, i found that you can add your favorite search engine to that list in the right top corner. Good for people who want to have other than enlgish search.
I still think it's a little slower than IE if you hit some very slow server on the other end of the world. IE loads picture faster. But extensions functionality is awesome.
So far, the only extension I have is the DOM Inspector. I will have to take a look at the other extensions and start loading some.
One of the things I love about Firefox (over Netscape) is that if you have multiply tabs open like I do, Firefox will give you a warning if you have multiply tabs open and you click the wrong X. Netscape would just close everything.
wow.
question: does anyone know where Firefox puts his cookies?
I ask, because I think they only go into a single file, Index.dat in the cookies folder. that's fine by me, but my problem is that as far as I can see, no spykiller program knows how to find spycookies there. does anyone have the info?
This is the list of extensions installed in my Firefox: DOM Inspector, GMail Notifier, FoxyTunes, WeatherFox, SwitchProxy Tool, Live HTTP Headers, FlashGot, Copy Plain Text, Search Status, Bandwidth Tester, Translate, View Cookies, ColorZilla.
Wow, FireFox has a lot of nice extensions. Anybody has any favorites? I like this one. A lot of options how tab browsing works. I especially like the little "X" button i can add on every tab.

regarding WinAmp users and JRE Java 1.5 (used in mozilla/firefox)
contrary to the claims of nullsoft, version 5.06 still appears vulnerable ...
- for the java runtime env though an updated, safe version is available ... ~*~
Well if you go to the Yahoo Toolbar page, it actually points you to that mozdev page - so that is some-what "sponsered" by Yahoo, or at least approved by Yahoo.
I use Firefox now and much prefer it to IE. It does import your bookmarks.
I thought there might be a few problems with a Yahoo toolbar (they say as such) but mine works perfectly.
1. Go to Firefox link
2. Find the "Free Download" link in upper right
3. Choose SAVE and save it on your hard drive (on the desktop is the best place - and easy to find if you don't know much about searching your computer for the downloaded file. (If you "Open", then you actually run it from their website which is not recommended)
4. After download is complete, run file that you just downloaded (Double click on file - should be sitting on your desktop)
5. If should walk you through setting up the browser.
6. Start using Firefox, load pages quicker & more secure without all the pop ups
