Nothingness: With single elimination half of them is out after just 1 game! The idea is that they all start to learn and hopefully enjoy playing the game. Round robin has a minimum of 5 here. Let's see how many beginners we get, I could adjust it to 5 if it's a multiple of 5.
I'll help anyone. I have enough canned words of espionage wisdom that I could start a line of fortune cookies.
So . . .if you are reading this board and would like some help just send me a game invite and indicate that you would like hints. (Mark, that includes you. :) )
happy hermit: Ha Ha Perhaps it is Sandoz whom I should be asking for hints, as I note he beat you too!
But seriously, I do value the experience of playing against you, and once I've cleared some things out of the way, I'll send you an invite and take you up on your offer.
Nothingness: I repost it regularly, can't do it every day though. There are many other people posting tournaments, they have the right to be seen as well.
Nothingness: you must have missed my last post, it was 13 december. I was planning on once a week. If you want to see it more often, that's fine if you post them.
Subiectul: Espionage Beginners Tournament- BIG prizes to be won!
The Espionage League wants to encourage players at BrainKing to learn the beautiful game of espionage. Especially for those of you who have never played the game or are in the beginner's stage we've created the:
Only beginners (no rating or below 1500 in any of the espionage variants) may join.
Prizes:
#1 - 1 year rook + 9 months bonus!
#2 - 6 months rook
#3 - 6 months knight
Send me a message (Chaos) so I can invite you for the tournament. I only send invitations to beginners. The espionage league is willing to help you learn the game. Ask questions on strategy or make a request for a mentor on the Espionage Discussion Board
Pedro Martínez: Thank you for your concern over doing things properly. When I saw this tournament, I had only finished 1 Espionage variant game properly. The following is the query I sent:
"I'm interested in Espionage and have been reading the posts on the board for a while. My rating is above 1500 in all variants, but out of the total of 22 games across all variants, Indriel has timed out in 10, Snoopy got overwhelmed by games and resigned 10, MadMonkey timed out in 1, so that only leaves 1 game I've ever played properly! Would I still be disqualified as a newbie, based on these unearned ratings, do you think?"
I was told I was eligible, but if the organisers now think otherwise, I'll pull out as I don't wish to upset anyone.
Pedro Martínez: ... and since then, I have finished one more game against a fellow beginner (puupia), which I won, so that makes 2 proper wins across all 5 variants ever.
Resher: You will definitely not upset me if you stay in the tournament. Having the experience of a number of ongoing espionage games against you and having seen your finished games (and knowing you would have won them easily even if completed “normally”), I was just surprised when I saw you listed as a beginner. That's it. No hard feelings.
Pedro Martínez: Both Nothingness and I checked Resher's stats thoroughly. His wins by time-outs were games not even half played against the same 2 absolute beginner opponents in every variant. The rating was based on 4 games, 1 more than an unrated status. Based on those data I call someone a beginner. If trained by Nothingness I'm not surprised Resher is improving rapidly. I have no doubt Nothingness takes this job very seriously and Resher seems eager to learn, as can be seen by the large amount of espionage games of all sorts he has taken up since he signed up for the tournament, quite some of them against you. I'm sure he's learning a lot from you as well.We encourage the beginners to train themselves for the tournament, so it's only likely some will get above the beginner's level before the tournament.
Hopefully, by the tournament rolls around at the end of January a number of the players will be well past beginner.
Espionage/Sabotage is a game without a lot of theory behind it and there's no reason a suitably clever person couldn't be one of the top 10 players on this site within a month and a handful of practice games of learning the rules.
Are you league folks aware of the Site wide espionage team tournament coming up? (It's only available for paid members in fellowships). See the Team Tournament link in the left side bar.
Chaos: The boss of the team (Nothingless) has to but us up in the tournament, and then he has to deciede which team we should have.
If anyone are intrested, I have earlier created a fellowship called "Espionage League", but then I found out that you have to be a member, and not a pawn, I never started it up. I think also that this discussion board is working fine as a fellowship. But, if anyone wants to join that fellowship to be able to play in the team tournament I can hopefully fix that.
Chaos: I think a fellowship only can have one team in the tournament, it was due to that I mentioned "my" fellowship.. But I hope that Nothingness wants me in his team.
Nothingness: How many people can join a team? Maybe Bosse is right, if there are more player's interested than there are places in the team, it would be great if he'd made another espionage fellowship. Maybe first wait if it's necessary.
Chaos: thx Chaos,I sent a msg to untouchables last night before knowing about Freaks so they just accepted me and can only be in one --looks like we'll be competitors
SL-Bosse: I just saw that there can only be 4 player's in the team, so I guess it's a good idea if you have a fellowship as well to create another team, because now there are 6 player's in nothingness' team, already 2 too many. I can join your team if you want, then Nothingness has 4 players left. I saw Mark already signed up for another team as well. The Leaguers will play against eachother!
Chaos: maybe I will think about a paid membership. If I purchase a membership for -let's say- 3 months and the team tournament lasts for more, what will happen later? Can I go on with my games until they are completed?

dAGGER: Yes, as long as you are on a team in a fellowship, and are in the tournament when it starts up, you will continue on until the end of the tournament, regardless of your membership level.
Also, right now is a good time to join. I believe the "Christmas action" is still going on. Depending on the color circle that appears, you can get extra time, up to 100%, if you do it at the right time. (Keep checking back until the best color is there)
EDIT: Oh, this extra bonus only applies for purchases of a year, sorry.
if there is anyone who has any ideas for a new tourney i would be willing to put up some of my brains to the winner. Probably all 200 of them. i have lifetime membership and virtually no restrictions and can create any tourney.

Nothingness: Maybe you could set up small fast #2? I've got a few new players who are interested in playing in an espioinage tournament who don't qualify for the beginner's tournament. Would be good to have an alternative for them as well.
i was thinking if perhaps we should wait until the rookies tourney is over. This way they too can be eligible for the Brain Prize tourney. So i would suggest for you to just start the tourney and ill hold off on the prize tourney till later in the year.
