can any of you members have any outside strawberry plants? I just moved and I have some growing outside should I cover them with Straw for the winter? I life in the north west?
amandalove: I live up North and we don't cover our strawberry plants at all. Just let em do their thing. Are they still producing strawberries at this time of year?
Foxy Lady: Same here. Unreal the rain in the last few days and the wind is pretty bad too. We set up our halloween decorations friday and luckily all are in tact just rather soggy..
amandalove:I'd leave the stawberries alone and when they start to flower next spring then place straw around and under them to prevent bugs eating them, thats if the birds leave you any.
Foxy Lady: wow we were lucky this year to get the rain we got which after 9 years of drought it was good produced a pretty Fall was cold for awhile but warm this week
BerniceC: It can sometimes help to put in their basket an item of clothing which would have Vern's scent on it. An old jumper or something. It might make him feel a bit happier.
Субъект: Re: Holidays are right around the corner..
ScarletRose: My husband always re-cuts the tree after we get it home and gets it in a big pail of water. We never put it up too early the heat drys it out.SR we tried all the tricks even the aspirin but constant watering works best for us.Reason for re-cutting is the sap runs to the bottom and reseals itself.
Thankies for all the suggestions.. every year I dread getting that real tree only to having to get a new one a week before Christmas... due to the first one drying out so much..
Either that.. or I wait till a week before to get a tree..
harley: I ended up buying an artifical one last year.. it is 7 foot tall.. but, I still enjoy the smells of a real one.. who knows.. maybe I will just buy some fresh garland or something..
ScarletRose: They sell a Pine scented spray you can spray the tree with.We usually put ours up about a week before, this year with the baby all over i'm thinking of putting the tree in the play pen.Safety reasons for the tree mind you.Nahhhh i'm worried about the pine needles and her grabbing at the tree.We did this with Gabrielle and it worked out well.
Foxy when my twins were little I'd put my tree near a wall, then get cotton or string, and in 4 or 5 places tie it around the middle of the tree so you can't see it and pit in to the wall behind. It stopped the tree falling on them if they pulled it.
harley: thanks Harley I will try the article of clothing and see what happens....he pooped twice last night...once on a mat that I was able to wash (I put him outside, first time ever at night) and he got up this morning when I let him in and he pooped on the carpet :(
Thankfully I have a good cleaner and there arent any stains.
BerniceC: Aww the poor thing. It might just be a phase, its probably just him being sad thats making him do it. He'll be confused about why he isn't around now, and he'll also be picking up on your sorrow. Its a bad time for you both.
harley: I have just given him a shirt with a tissue in the pocket that I found in the bedroom..it was going to be washed before I dispose of his clothing and he seems to be sleeping happily, but we will wait and see. It doesn't seem to be bothering the cat altho he has gotten more smoochy with me LOLOL....He was Verns cat.
BerniceC: Cats are much more adaptable than dogs, and I think they understand more too. Dogs are very loyal and stress more with changes. They also pick up on their owners feelings more than cats.
Foxy Lady: Way more than double the trouble!! I never had to worry about pine needles, I always had an artificial tree. But I remember from when I was a kid those things get everywhere! Theres no play pen in the world will keep pine needles in!

ScarletRose: jose quervo and grinadine and oj but it only works if you drink it first..........lol merryyyy christmas!!!!!!! just teasin ya scarlet but really skipinniz had the best reply.
when 1st discovered, they were fenced & locked in,fearing tree poachers.
thought to be priceless.
now,it is thought the best way to protect them, was to breed them & sell them to promote there spread.
arboretums & botanical gardens can even order them now:
http://www.wollemipine.com/order.php
the wollemi pine is australian from memory and was discovered (rediscovered by a group)
the find was kept secret for years until the propogated and started to grow them for distribution within australia.....I havent read the links but would assume they arent available yet to overseas....only within australia?
i have just looked for stockists in our area and there isnt any but WhisperzQ would be able to buy it readily if he had the $55 hahahah
Foxy Lady: re:
nobleheart: Nice to see since were expecting snow lol........A blast coming down from Canada is going to hit us good so the weather channel says.
---
commentary:
why is it canadian weathermen(correctly say the cold snowy weather is coming from the arctic.
and
why is it USA weathermen(incorrectly say the cold snowy weather is coming from the canada.
off all people, shouldn't the US weather men have some idea of were it comes from & dont they know that we get it too?
PS foxy,I am not wanting the snow..yuck to snow.
we have had nothing but cold rain so far.
ScarletRose: mmm.a tree for christmas...mmm...doubt they would let me ho ho ho across the border with a big real tree..but I willl start tomthink of something clever as an alternative.
