crosseyed: Hey, I had a whole three games going a few days ago! But you're right, it really isn't an issue for me. Free is a good price so I have no reason to complain. And it's not a serious enough problem for me to switch over to Chrome. I'm trying to break the 2100 BKR barrier in chess, but haven't been able to do it so I'm limiting my number of games to 5 or less.
MadMonkey: Eusing asks automatically and then backs up the registry before cleaning. Neer had any problems with it on XP or 7.
Though, as a all in one http://slimcleaner.com/ I've found works better on Win 7 as a good registry cleaner and washer of all old internet junk from your caches, etc.
Artful Dodger: Yeah, that is the one i used to use when i used Windows all the time . As i am more Linux person now i dont need to
Really, if you just use your PC for just everyday internet use, Registry cleaners are not needed. If you download and Install (and more to the point UNINSTALL) lots of programs then they are very useful (BUT always remember to make a Back-up)
speachless, crosseyed, ellieoop, Old Biddy: I dont know what you have tried, but give this program a go...I instal it on all PC rebuilds i do, it will certainly get rid of any rubbish slowing your computer down.........
You have to set it up, by ticking what boxes you want it to clean, but it VERY straight forward
(the only ones i don't tick are Passwords & Wipe free space, but each to their own )
Also note, their is also a program included with CCleaner, that will clean your Registry. Cleaning Registries is not always advised, but as long as you back it up first it should be no problem. I always used it and have never had any issues
Is all this will do is make sure you computer is clean, so can run as best it can. It won't help, server issues or connection problems
speachless: I was having problem this morning using internet explorer with the site showing the white pages for ages. So I decided to try using Firefox and I am able to play my games with no problems and it is much faster.
ellieoop: when i had some days ago problem with the slow brainking site i tried several things to see if i have a local problem. therefore i tried with chrome as well, but also with safari, firefox and internet explorer. didn't help at all. also tried to delete the history cause i use to make lots of moves a day, tried to deactivate and reactivate my wi-fi connection, etc.... usually i don't have problems with brainking but the mentioned day i had like lots of other users. it just seams some users had problems and other not.
I enter with just brainking.com too, so I think the problem must have something to do with locality. That seems to be the common denominator. I tried brainking.com/pt to see what the "pt" does... the language on the login page is in portuguese. Oh well, it never hurts to experiment.
Like Justaminute, Resher and Aganju, I too am not having any kind of problems when accessing the site in the past few... weeks. Sometime ago, someone suggested it had to do with the URL it is used to enter the site, i'm using brainking.com/pt (no "www"), maybe it could help.
Two points I want to make. One, the problem doesn't originate in Fencers backyard even though it affects the people playing there. And two, the "customer is always right" began years ago at a large department store as a promotional gimmick. It caught on with customers everywhere (no surprise) and quickly became a sort of proverb, often quoted by (again, no surprise) unhappy customers. It's not a rule of any sort, and originally it only meant to convey how eager that particular department store was to please their customers. In reality no one really believes the customer is always right, and Fencer can hardly be held responsible for servers not under his control. So let's all get real, okay? I don't like taking half a day to make two moves but hey, stuff happens.
Or, the gremlins are doing it... that seems to be the most reasonable explanation.
crosseyed: "The customer is always right" - if you want to believe that, it's your right, of course. Give me some time and I'll try to elaborate a little.
crosseyed: Crosseyed, the point he is making (and I say that witout any irony) is *we are not his customers*. We are just some guys he let's play in his backyard for nickels because he happens to have it and we are willing to. Not that I like it, but it is a valid business decision. I also hear that he doesn't care too much financially if we all get pissed and go away and pay somewhere else. So - face it - he is offering us to play in his backyard for nickels, but he doesn't clean it for us. And we can take it or leave it, and we can like it or not. Again, I'm not happy about it, but I understand this as a business decision, and can accept it.
crosseyed: Cant say that i am having any problems, but it seems to me a reasonable access speed is a reasonable expectation of any paid for web site irrespective of what the rules say.
Fencer: I do understand what you say, but for fear of having my posts blocked or even banned I to will not waste any more time discussing things with you for the present.
crosseyed: You clearly have no intention to understand what I say all the time (well, not a big surprise because you are not the first one). I see no point to make any more attempts to explain.
Fencer: I don't permanently complain. I only make you aware that something is going wrong in your site. I think in time I will most likely leave this site if this is the kind of response one get as being a paid member. You clearly have no respect or value paid members.
crosseyed: Let me quote from the Paid Membership page:
"The player is not limited by number of started games at once nor number of moves per day nor number of joined tournaments and team tournaments, is limited by 35 vacation days per year."
That's what you are guaranteed to get. Everything else is "maybe, but maybe not, depends on the situation". Please try to deal with it.
Regarding your comment "If Brainking is no longer your top priority you should hand it over to someone else" - if you are interested, give me a good offer and we can discuss it.
crosseyed: Maybe you should have read more carefully what you paid for. You have a right to play more games, create fellowships, tournaments etc. There is nothing about "you will be guaranteed to have a site running without any problems ever" or "you will never have connection problems", and it's not there for a very good reason. I could also say that I find your response (and permanent complaining) very insulting. Then we can insult each other on and on, if it makes you more happy. I prefer not to discuss it with people who only see their own problems and nothing else. Anyway, I am the one who decides what my priorities are. If you don't like it here, you can always play elsewhere.
Resher: Well I am in the UK and it has been awful all of yeterday apart from early morning. I gave up trying to log on and play games as I when was lucky enough to log on I got the white page and then after several minutes kicked off. However today things seem to working well today so far. Fingers crossed it stays that way.
Fencer: If Brainking is no longer your top priority you should hand it over to someone else or pay someone to run the site for you. We all pay good money to you and therefore you should be making it a top priority. Your site is a very good site to play in. But I can no longer say that as every time there is a problem with your site you claim there is nothing wrong. However you are now saying there is something wrong. So you should be making it your top priorty to fix the problem. At least when Goldtoken has problems the site owner puts a message stating that the site has been playing up and then gives one week extra on membership. Now that is a gester of good will. I actually found your post very insulting. As you are quick enough to take our money but do not consider it a top priority to provide a good service to those who pay you.
It is true that some people can have problems to access BrainKing. BrainKing itself is OK and running fast, but for some strange reason the server occasionally fails to provide new connections, so the generated page never reaches your web browser. When I have time, I'll try to do some tuning, but since I am very busy with many other things (you might have noticed that, after 10 years, BrainKing is not my top priority any longer), it's hard to make any estimate, especially when I have no idea what could went wrong.
Aganju: Yes, it's also been working fine for me in the UK throughout the past few days as well. It's very mysterious how it affects some people but not others, with seemingly no geographical pattern to it.
beach: These complaints keep going around for some weeks now, and I understand that it is a real nuisance (I left another site because of it). But - I had no issues all day. Of course I wasn't playing every single minute, but whenever I tried, it worked well (and I tried often). I think it is something in the internet's structure like DNS or whatever magic failing that affects large parts of the world intermittently, but the site itself _is working_ fine, believe it or not.
Bernice: Bernice its been crap for me for 2 days, today it took me 2 hours to make 20 moves nothing but white pages, and page cannot be displayed, I can tell a lot of people are having the same problem all the people who I regularly play and they move fast haven't move either, we are all over the world and all of us have different providers
Bernice: oh, I'm sorry your post getting deleted... i only confirmed to crosseyed post that i'm having the same problem while loading the brainking pages. but i'm not a web administrato, which means i don't know if it has to be a local problem or not. off course i use to restart the browser and deactivate and reactivate my wireless connection to be sure it isn't a local problem. but if this actions don't work i can imagine the brainking server is slow, as all other web pages worked well to me... but again, i have no clue, i'm not a web administrator... and thanks Bernice for the private PM, that I actually didn't understand so far, but maybe it's because of my less english knowledge...
