JerNYC: to make that accurate you have to do it per game type
personally i play my gammon types several times per day, but i sometimes postpone my moves to the next day in tougher games which require more tought like chess or froglet or pente
also the day of the week might be important as i sometimes dont make a move at all on fri-sun (my weekend/family time)
El Cid: as we cannot set vacation days anymore, i mean to assign them to specific dates and are dependent on the automatic use i am strongly against your suggestion .. i might be on vacation or a working trip without spare time to play for more than 1 month ... that is what my vacation days are for
you can see i didnt use all of them this year, so i dont delay games on purpose
if you want games which cannot be delayed, then use any of the appropriate time controls
rabbitoid: lol i am in that tournament as well .. although i cant make it to the next round anymore as i end as 2md in my section
the matches which havent finished yet are all between active players ... so hopefully it will proceed to the next round next year ? .. hmm maybe in this case (cloning gammon) inactive players would lose sooner due to timeout as thats much faster than finishing the game itself :)
Gabriel Almeida: i agree, he would probably not have predicted this :) and neither would some (or any) of the participants have thought of that
we all didnt have any experience with cloning gammon yet, and didnt know it can be a very long game
some players might even got bored of it and stopped playing, others might have left the site as there can happen in a lot in real life in 8 years
when i joined the tournament i just was together with my gf, we just rented a house, had no kids, and had plenty of spare time .... 8 years later our jobs got busier, we own a house, and have 2 kids, and little spare time ...... and i think i am not that extreme, i can imagine other to have a much larger change in life
some might not have joined, others might still have joined as they liked the game and will just await the outcome as it wont hinder them in any aspect
ooohhh the memories .... great evenings of playing board games and computer games seemingly without limit :)
could we get back to the subjects about brainking itself please instead of attacking specific players
if you have any grounded comments/remarks/.. about a specific player, please send a pm to Fencer as he is the only one who can do handle player accounts
first : it's a tournament of cloning backgammon which can take a long time to finish (2 games of le club that still have to be finished are from me, while i and my opponent do play actively)
second : why would it be a problem that a teamtournament takes this long to finish ?
Ämne: Re: A piece of advice to Brain Pawns(and those that like fast games)
ThunderGr: 3 days and 16:30 :)
thats why i have my weekend days which give a dead time of less than 2 days for normal games ... and as i still have 19 vacation days left for the rest of this year, that seems to be fine
for games with green or red dots (fisher clock games) i can have a dead time of more than 3 days though, so i have to chose my games/tournaments carefully and usually login once or twice during my weekends to save the time pool ... it happened a couple of times where i didnt manage that this year though so i think i timed out in 4 games this year .. the rest i lost within the time limits :)
(not counting the tournament which started in the weekend which i didnt realize, where i lost all first games of the matches :))
my "tip" was meant sarcastically :-) ... the purpose of this site is to play games, not to try to let your opponent timeout :)
most opponents will try to cooperate with your time limits if you ask them .. you cant expect them to pay attention to it all the time ... the responsibility of the timecontrol of my games is fully mine
i had some very nice opponents save our games with fast time limits lately :)
Ämne: Re: A piece of advice to Brain Pawns(and those that like fast games)
Tip: learn to know your opponents playing times ...
For example: my "dead time" is between thursday 17:00 and monday 9:30
so if you want to win against me on timeout, then make sure i will have little time left on a game, and make your move on thursday evening (cet) .. there might be a chance that i wont make my next move until monday morning 9:30 (cet)
or if you want to win our game by your own skills then make sure you make your last move before thursday 17:00 to give me time until monday morning 9:30 :)
but above all: it is my own responsibility wether i timeout or not, you are not to blame for it
Thom27: this will not make the slower players move faster .. they will just timeout in those fast games, but that doesnt make them use up their vacation days or let them move faster in other games
Aganju: you are correct, it is totally the fault of the one accepting the game .. i am on the other other side of this lately as my weekends seem to be quite busy, too busy to play games .. and have timed out in a couple of games lately, but i blame it all on me
i turn down all fisher clock invitations, but once in a while i do join a fisher clock tournament: when either the reward is nice, or when i like the tournament because of its organizer or theme and i want it to have a nice amount of participants ....
joining fisher clock tournaments is a bit of a gamble for me ... a lot depends on the timezones of my opponents .... i expect to lose 1 or 2 matches in the tournament, but hope to win enough of the other matches to move on to the next round ... but of course i try to win them all without timeouts :)
Ämne: Re: Quick player's club, slow moving, change, and other rants
435152: feel free to start a new club with even faster time controls
just post the rules of that club on your profile, and a list of the members .. and make sure everyone on that list obeys the rules, otherwise you will remove them
this is an open forum which is intended to be about brainking
we allow a few off-topic posts, but when there are too many then we will gently ask to continue elsewhere
both the posts of aaru and of dice cheater are within the topics of this forum, so they are both allowed
however it shows of respect of the original posted to leave his thread on his topic, and not hijack it for your own topic
therefore dice cheater could best have started a new thread instead of posting his opinions about slow players as a reply on a post in the thread of aaru
aside of that : the subject of slow players have been talked about a LOT already and there are many opinions about this .. the site offers many ways to setup your games and tournaments, so you can always find a game with a time limit which you like best ... and if you somehow do get stuck with a slow player you can always ask him gently in a pm to move faster (i am not the fastest player, but i can move faster against specific opponents when asked)
about the problem with the timeouts of aaru .. i have no idea as i hardly use the fishers clock, and i am glad speachless is looking into them as well :)
happyjuggler0: this time of the year is always the time of slow moving due to a couple of reasons:
- it is a week of days off for a lot of people and they might valye their time with friends more important than playing games online - it is a week of days off for a lot of people and they might use it for a vacation and might not be able to be online - it is the end of the year and everyone knows how many vacation days they still have left on this site, so they might decide to use them for not timing out, and use their time for other stuff in the real world
personally i usually am a slow mover during the weekends (spending time with kids and family), and am mover faster during the workweek (what else to do during breaks at work.. ;-))
personally i always try to keep it so that i always have at least 2 days till my next timeout and join only games with 3 days per move or more
personally i keep my vacation days for emergencies (as i needed them this summer) and in the end of the year might use the remainder to spend some time with family or do the stuff in my house which i have neglected too long
personally i never timed out in any game that i remember and i wont do so this year either
personally: if you want me to move faster, please let me know and i might speed up those specific games
personally i think it is as important to move fast, as it is to know which tournaments with which time control you join ..
computeropponen: i played a few games of chess with my mother on here and she does exactly what you says .... i know she is no cheater though :) ...she just wants to play it on a real board so she views my move and then sets up on a real board to contemplate her various moves and often she leaves the board standing there for several days before making the real move :)
JerNYC: bots and software is always a problem on a game site ... not just for new players .. for example i could start using some chess software as well, and just claim i got more time to think about my moves to clarify my raise in ranking (if i would ever raise :))
for new players something else might happen: some people tend to finish winning games first, beore they finish the games in which they seem to lose .. this tends to a higher ranking for new players and a high win/loss ratio at first
(also games which you are winning usually require less effort and will be finished faster from your side, than games which you might be losing in which you have to think about every move several times)
badgerboy78: not all foolishness ... he made a valid post at first and a discussion came from it ... from his point of view it was a good feature to have
about half of the posts were about that ... the rest was childish ... and he is banned for crossing the line (although others werent as polite as i would like either, but they didnt cross the line yet)
jadarite: i meant you calling us all bitches, that has nothing to do with the discussion
we talked about your wish as well, in fact discussed it to quite some length and came up with some solutions which might work as well .. and are probably easier than to change this site
jadarite: this profile of yours shows you have completed no games yet, that is what cd power was pointing to
you might have played more games on another site, but that doesnt contribute to your experience on this site .. cd power means some experience is needed to know what you are talking about ..... like me i made a few misclicks and lost some games due to that, or my opponent was polite enough to recognize it and take no advantage of it
or you played more games on this site with another account ... then why not use that account right now ?
jadarite: i sent you an official warning .. stay polite and dont use rude language or you will be banned ... this is the first and last warning
i let this go on as i thought the language was (just) not over the edge, but now it goes too far .. i will let these messages stay as to not destroy the history
jadarite: if that is is just what you want, and your reasons for it, then i suggest to make a habit of checking your move before hitting the submit button .. you can move your move, recheck it, double check it, ..., and then hit submit (or cancel)
