Ämne: Re: A feature request for blots on the bar
The main reason I'd like to see this feature is I occasionally start to make an inferior move because I think I have to play off the bar when I don't have to. In that case, the only hint the game provides is the cursor change when you mouse over the other legal moves.

I am just finishing my first game of nackgammon. What is the difference in strategy, if any, from backgammon?

but still the same three possible strategies are valid, if the dice grant any anyway ...
really different strategies are existing in crowded and gammon race. basically,
one cAn say - without doubling cube there's no strategy at all, software flaws rule ... ~*~

ok... fun reading, but lets get back to the topic of gammon games please.

[first edit:] post past this point have been removed - if it keeps going, I will delete and hide user(s). Take it to General Chat - you can "chat" about anything there! Thanks.

[second edit:] Only post removed so far were post not on the subject of Gammon which is the purpose of this board. There is no point keeping many post not about that subject here for all the users who come to this board to read about gammon games. I have not deleted any post that were made before this post.

[third edit]: off topic post have been removed. All hiden users are now seen again. Please keep post on topic for now on. Thanks.

Ämne: Nackgammon
Nackgammon was designed to make players think positionally rather than just run for it. An early blitz in nackgammon probably won't work either as there are not enough men available in your half of the board. So a blocking game of some sort is more or less essential. If both players escape 2 of the back men quickly then it can turn into a game of backgammon. Otherwise it tends to develop quite differently. Very little seems to have been written on nackgammon strategy and the strategies of the better players seem to vary quite widely.

So if I have got this right, nackgammon isn`t for people who don`t want blocking games?
I have tried to play some games but always ending up with blocks and let`s say thats not my best game,,,

I thing that two games are getting mixed up and they are anti-backgammon and Nackgammon. In anti I have fine that u don't want to make blocks so the person you are playin can get around the board faster then you. In nackgammon you start with four man in your oppents base. But I could be wrong it would not be the first time this has happened and more then not will be the last time. lol

After parsing your double negative a second time, I have to say you're correct. In other words, Nackgammon is for people who like blocking games.

Ämne: Re: Nackgammon
I would say that backgammon is also "not for people who don't like blocking games." The style of play should be dictated by the dice and the opponent's play, not by personal preference. In backgammon as in nack, you should always be aware of opportunities to block your opponent, and of the risk that your opponent will block you.

23. augusti 2004, 21:45:26
grenv
Correct, as with anything else in gammon games, the dice will determine the strategy. In this case it might be accurate to say Nackgammon is less likely to go quickly into a running game.

It's on move 826 - which their moves count for 1 move for both players turn. - Started April 2002

So BrainKing can not beat that since BrainKing was not around until Sept 2002! :-)

Would love some additional input of these rules of Domino-Gammon which I'm compiling to a website.

Domino-Gammon

It would be a game I would love to see here on BrainKing, but I'm also going to start "pushing" these rules elsewhere - so I would love so input about anything! (here, in private message, or in e-mail would be great!)

Great game, I haven't seen that before

I would suggest if you can't move with any of the 3 you are forced to change one of your 3 dominoes (just like any other move), rather than passing or changing all 3.

Hi !
It sounds great, but if I am able to see my oponents next three moves dosen`t that mean that it will be an not so offenciv game because I will not take risks as I do in an ordernarie game ?

7. september 2004, 20:37:26
grenv
yes and no. You can't see the next 3 moves, only the 3 options for next move. Theoretically you could still take a risk relating to what will be picked up next turn by your opp.

Also don't forget you only have 3 options yourself, all of which may be risky.

Plus take for example that you see that your opponent can land on your piece (maybe moving you back 10 pips), but you look far enough ahead to see you can then move after that and land on his piece (moving him back 20 pips) - so there is a whole new eliment to the game.

I'm playing some bozo named Neno Miguel at anti-gammon and he must have a second nic here because he keeps rolling my dice when i'm not here by loading the game on that other nic....i think that's cheating...!!

Noticed that we're not forced to use the higher die when it's not possible to use both, but it's possible to use the higher die.
Will I be concidered a "cheater" if I take advantage of this?

This bug has been commented on in the past, and nothing done. Perhaps we should get it added to the "known bugs" tab.

I am not in favor of self regulation of rules on a game site. I would consider this a different game than regular backgammon until it is fixed.

11. september 2004, 00:00:17

I personally always try to play by the rules. Ignoring the higher die rule and the use both dice if possible rule ruins the game for me.

It certainly does, I play my games the way it should be because my honor is more important to me than the occasional incorrect move to gain an advantage, but you are right it can happen without even realizing that you have made an incorrect move

right, and it's too late to point it out once the move is made.

is obligatory for backgammon purists. like it could be
a matter of honour to take from the farest triangle when,
after moving out started, home-fiddling is needed ... ~*~

11. september 2004, 17:48:17

but you are proposing a rule change. Honor surely applies to playing within the rules. On the other hand one could argue that the rules are those in place on the site, so ignoring the higher dice is within the rules and therefore not dishonorable.

Each side starts with only three checkers: one each on their respective 24, 23, and 22 points.

fencer,I know this isnt the place for this..but just like crowded backgammon..I have another inspiration for a new backgammon variation.
how about frozen backgammon.
played exacly like backgammon, except instead of a hit blot being sent back to the bar.
it changes colour to blue & is frozen(that is cant make a move)for 2 turns..and then can move on the 3rd turn after being frozen.
what do you think?

Sorry for the delay Steve.
It's not a bad idea. Maybe if you post it to Backgammon discussion board, some more experienced players than me would show their opinions.

I think the attack is more important, but you need at least 2 anchors to survive, IMHO. Connectivity seem to be paramount.

Not sure if this is more skilled than B/NG, but I guess I'll have to play some more games to find out. :)

I think your dirty message needs an appropriate answer:
First, a public game can be seen for anybody. I use to see games from other people, because it’s a way of learning and improving the way I play, as well. If you watch some, you might learn something…
Second, if you don’t want your games to be seen, play private games.
Third, I don’t have and I don’t need to have another nick to watch another games.
Fourth, before you make an accusation, be sure you have proves. Cheating is making anything against the rules and none of what I’d done is illegal or against regulations.
Fifth, if you have a problem with me, act like a man, say it first and politely or write to the owner of the site, like I did.
Sixth, call bozo to the guy you see everyday at the mirror.

13. september 2004, 21:22:25
nobleheart
I have thought about this.it need not be ANY different from backgammon, except that instead of removing a blot,it turns blue,is frozen for 2 moves(as for space availability, stacking blots is not a problem, same as usual backgammon).on the 3rd move, the blot returns to its regular color & can be moved.what you think?

13. september 2004, 22:35:24

so the capturing piece remains on top of the frozen piece? What if it's still on top when the piece thaws out?

Also what happens if a second piece should land on it whilst it is frozen. Does this re-freeze it?

those were the 2 questions I had

14. september 2004, 02:30:59

This could become mind boggling, what if the original frozen piece had the opponents piece on it when at the next turn the original player was able to land on the same spot again would this then have 2 blue pieces, then could the opposition land on it etc etc.
