Walter Montego: You're welcome. I just remembered that I thought something similar had been brought up before. Used "Search in posts" and searched for Plakato here. It didn't turn up exactly what I thought. So I tried on the Brainking.com discussion board, too, as that seemed like another place it might have been. Sure enough, it was. My memory really wasn't THAT impressive.
rod03801: Switching the Backgammon settings to the small board setting did make the Plakoto board show the pieces. I do not like the small board. I will finish this match, and then never play this game again unless this bug is fixed.
You found this message from 2012, rod03801? A long memory you have. Thank you.
I was talked into playing a match of Plakoto. I cannot see the points on the table that have two pieces on them of both colors. My opponent (Vinkel) says the table looks good from his side. I was going to resign, but he suggested to ask Fencer. So I am posting here as I do not know where bug reports go.
I also had this problem when I was trying to review older games Vinkel had played so I could get an idea of how the game is played.
I just lost a game and match to five doubles in a row today. Backgammon (Walter Montego vs. DavieBoy) It happens. I have played my opponent over 1300 matches. This match hurt since he had won eight in a row prior, and I thought I had the game for the match when it was 75 to 45. Sure it's bad luck, as is your case, but that doesn't mean something fishy has gone on to make it happen. Supposing the roles were reversed. Would you understand how lucky you had gotten?
The game was the final game to determine the winner of the of the match. I’m peeling my pieces off and only have 7 left (30 pip count), he’s still in my home, he proceeds to roll doubles 5 times in a row including three sets of double 6’s to win the game and match. The only way he could have won was to roll 5 sets of doubles, and he does.
Like I said, very talented roller. I see why he’s number 1.
Aganju: Thanks for that. I've sent a message to Fencer, so hope he still reads them!
I usually throw 2-1 or 3-1 near the beginning of the game, and then 5-5 or 6-6 when I have one counter on the final point. Any hints as to how to correct this?
Backgammon (walangpera vs. pgt) I have borne off almost all my pieces (except 2) in this game, and have suddenly been given an eatra dozen or so pieces on the 1 bar. But if you look at the game, I have borne off 14 pieces. What's going on?
Anjil: After hitting him with the 3 (which I understand you'd love to do), you would not be able to play the 5 anymore. The official backgammon rule says "you have to play both dice if possible, and if you can play only either one, you have to play the higher one" - in this case, the 5.
The rules on this site also list this, towards the very end: "If it is possible, both dice must be used. It means that some pieces can become "frozen" in certain positions because making a move with these pieces would create a situation where the second dice couldn't be used. If only one die can be used, the one with the higher number must be chosen.'
Aganju: Check my post of 19th May. I just looked at the earlier ones and it is the same player. He was rated number 1 in Hyperbackgammon.when I was number 2, and he would not accept a challenge, and then I noticed 5 normal games in the space of an hour, all private, and all won in 3 moves!
There is a player who won 5 normal games against the same opponent within the space of an hour (on 20/04/20), and all of them had a TOTAL of 3 moves! They were "private" games so unable to see exactly how they were won, but I suspect that this is a player trying to boost his rating - and ego.
Carl: you said that, not me. I said it looks like he is not any good, as I looked at some older games, and he played not exceptional. All newer games show that they were resigned by the opponent after two moves, which looks rather fishy.
But it is well known that there are cheaters around here. Some people get off on arbitrarily raising their ratings by having multiple accounts and pumping points between them. I feel sorry for them, I hope they see a psychologist some day about it.
Has anybody else noted that when you are way behind in a BG match you throw several 2-1s in a row.. When you are miles ahead, and need 2 to finish, you get a double 6!
Nothingness: the quality of random numbers here has been discussed before, and there may be issues with them, or not.
However, rolling 7 doubles in a row has a chance of about 1:280000, meaning it is completely normal (and to be expected) that it happens once per 280000 tries. If you consider that a Backgammon game has about 30 moves per side, and assume about 5000 games are played per year on Brainking, it should happen every other year. So as annoying as it might be to lose that way, it is not necessarily a sign for something off - it should happen every other year. Let's hope it doesn't hit you (or me) this year.
A few years ago I was in a game of backgammon and I was up about 50Pip and all my pieces were in my home about to bear off, my opponent was behind too far. He ended up rolling 7 straight doubles to win. It seemed suspicious to me.. Have there been other players who have experienced this? All the doubles were 66 55 or 44
Aganju: I stopped playing Backgammon for many years on BrainKing because of that. I still think there should be a version offered here that has gammons and backgammons counting that does not use the double cube.
happyjuggler0: right, thanks. I missed that little detail, just saw it's a 'match to 7 points', not '7 wins'. But as you pointed out, Gammons and Backgammons don't count here unless the doubling cube is used.
