It seems Fencer is talking about these charts while pauloaguia is talking about the BKR history and graphs. Yes, pawns do not have access to the history, but (as Fencer said) even guests can see the rating charts. :-)
Even if they have 50 games against you...what's the problem? Start 50 more. If this person only moves once a week, then once a week you'll have 50 extra games to play one move on. Or, start 10 more. Or none. Whatever. It doesn't have to be a problem, even if you like to play a move every 2 minutes in every game.
Maxxina: If they don't want to wait for the time limit, they shouldn't have joined the tournament. Rooks still have and always have had 30 vacation days. The only difference now is nothing is required of the user to actively schedule them. So why did all the complaining start now?
What I'd like to know is why rooks are complaining about someone moving slowly against them? I mean seriously - why is it such a big deal if a game (or 50, or 100!) take a year (or 2, or 3) to finish? If you're out of games to play start more. If you're not, play the other games and don't worry about that one.
Yes - that is the server news. However, when a new server news is written, or if i ever decide to hide it, it'll be gone forever! (or until I go to the Server News Discussion Board and find it from there) lol
I also noticed (just now) the only link to Interviews is just above this board, and I cannot find a link to that pond game (except in the server news). Could these both be placed in the left (or top with row layout) menu please? :-)
That's the logical fallacy, in your first sentece - assuming that because he doesn't move quickly you assume him to be a person not to be trusted. Why is this? There is no need to get into it as it has been discussed at length elsewhere, but if he doesn't time out, he's not doing anything wrong. Simply because you prefer to move more quickly does not make him wrong for moving more slowly.

So mrloupcity - are you suggesting that simply because he moves slow in his games on Brainking that he will write a program in order to infect other users' computers with viruses? That has got to be THE WORST logic I have EVER heard.
By the way, I had the same problem as THE HIT MAN - it downloads part way, and then during install says some of the files have been corrupted. The only explaination I have would be a server problem (it does display the correct total size, but simply refuses to complete the download).
Scarlet: Why would you delete it? If your opponent has been banned and it will take a month for it to time out, so what? Like you said: you are a rook and do not have a limited number of games. Just start another to replace it.
Bernice: Do you mean "Do they see a dot beside my name?" or "Do I see a dot beside their name?"
Mamba: The amount of points gained or lost is mostly dependent on the two ratings. Even unrated players actually have a rating, it is just not displayed. So they might have a very high rating or a very low rating, both affecting your rating very differently.

Bumble: You mean like: < a href=/game/Board?bc=181>Link< /a> rather than < a href=http://brainking.com/...>Link< /a>? We've been able to do that since all other links were allowed :-)

It would definitely not affect the graphs or history in any way. It would just change the way new ratings are calculated (very likely changing many ratings...)

So BBW, just to clarify: Are you suggesting that the rating INCREASE (or decrease) should be calculated based on the ratings at the beginning?
Like for example: Before the game, player 1 has a rating of 2000, and at the end of the game it's dropped to 1000. If, based on the 2000 rating their rating should increase say to 2004, should their new rating after the game be 1004?
For those interested, I have officially become the challenger of this year's Trax World Championship. This means that I will play the past world champion (Donald Bailey) in a best of 11 match, the winner becoming this year's World Champion.
The first of our match will be Saturday, October 23, 03:30 GMT. We will be playing the games live in the trax lobby. In order to watch the games, you must download (free) the lobby. It can be downloaded here. After installing the program (wherever you like), run the exe. The button to connect to the lobby is at the very bottom of the menu on the left. From there, you can type in whatever name you like and it should be self-explainatory from there. :-)
If you would just like to follow the results as they are played, they will be posted here as the games are completed.
Yes, if a pawn was recently a rook (or knight) they could be playing in many tournaments and have many games. But will not be able to start any new games until your total is below 20 (is that still what it is?) and no new tournaments until they are all done.
Yes - you only see games in the "Waiting Games" section that you can accept. So, since you cannot accept your own invites you do not see them there. You will also not see invites in which: your membership level was not defined, your rating is outside of the defined bounds, etc (any other reason you might not be able to accept it)
i've seen a few games - the smalles amazons graphics, the smallest old-checkers pieces (pawn and king only), largest two new-checkers pieces, battleboats graphics, various other miscellaneous pictures... (there's likely more).

rofl plaintiger :-)
Yes, but if you were on windows, it would say "Are you sure you want to delete this file?" and then you say "Yes" and then it would go to the recycle bin, and then press delete again and it would say "Are you sure you want to delete this file?" and then you press "yes" again, and your file is STILL not permanently gone! :-) lol

I'm talking about resigning a game which is part of a multi-point match with the cube.
I'm not saying a player should be let out a game where the other person has a chance to get maximum points from them. I am saying a player should be let out a game where the other person does not have a chance to get maximum points from them (for example, in a multi-point match with the cube where a player already has at least one piece removed, and therefore cannot possibly lose more than 1x the cube).
Zmenené užívateľom Kevin (23. septembra 2004, 04:32:49)
Yes - i'm saying they (time out and resign)should be treated the same.
If you are in a position where you ALREADY HAVE A PIECE OFF there is NO POSSIBLE way you can lose more than 1x the cube by finishing the game. Therefore, why make them forfeit more than that?
Zmenené užívateľom Kevin (23. septembra 2004, 03:26:08)
I think (in the case of a time-out or a resign) rather that forfeiting 3x the dice, you should forefeit the current position of the board (ie: by resigning or timing out you send all of your opponent's pieces to the end). For example, if you already have one or more pieces off of the board, you forfeit 1x the dice. If you do not have any on the bar or in your opponent's home quarter, you lose 2x the dice, and if you still have one or more on the bar or in your opponent's home quarter you lose 3x the dice.
I think 12x12 is a good size - if you make the board too small the skill involved decreases and the board layout (luck) plays a bigger part in it.
Number of moves would naturally be higher in longer (frequently a larger number of moves) games, and started and completed games will naturally be lower for longer games (for example, backgammon and Spider Line4 are shorter games, and checkers and froglet are longer games). I would say the number of players with either a provisional or established rating (or a certain number of completed games) - that's what they use on GoldToken.
Yes, if someone created an account on December 2nd (rook, of course), they could set all 30 days for the remaining 30 days of the year and on January 1st they would have 30 more.
No - all rooks always have 30 vacation days at the beginning of each year, and knights always have 20. Unused days are not carried over to the next year.
You could always just open a page like dictionary.com that has a language converter, and paste it in there. It will give you a rough translation of what was said...
That's happened to me once - except I was on the other side. I made my first move, and it immediately said my opponent timed out. It was also in battleboats...
