Subjekt: Cat Product Review
Has anyone here had experience with "Quiet Moments" calming sprays made by NaturVet? I've been mediating a political/territorial cat dispute at home, ever since saving a kitten last summer. As one funny person put it, "I'm nearly at the end of my urine-soaked rope!" (At least) one of my girls pees on my bed every once in a while--at least I got her to stop urinating in my study. It's so aggravating, but I'd really hate to have to send her away from here...

If less drastic measures don't suffice, I may have to administer drugs: paroxetine for the intimidating girl, and/or buspirone for the one who's feeling threatened/cornered.

I'll try the "calming spray" this week. Wish me luck...

Ive used feliway... Its a replica of the happy cat pheromone. I have a kitty who pees on my bed every time we bring a new cat in to the home (we rescue cats and most times dont adopt them out once we get attached.) This spray makes her feel happy and not aggitated by the new arrivals.. it works pretty good.
Ive never found anything else to work. She has been with us 6 years or longer and she is fine until we bring in a new kitty then for days she will pee. Once she gets some feliway sprayed around her she gets contented. Mind you we have to give her tons of rubbings and pettings ( more than usual) so she knows we still love her. They are like kids I tell you.
Good luck with your pee kitties
If you need a good product to get the stink out there is a locker room deoderant called Knock out. used in gym bags. It takes the stink outta anything.. even works on eliminating the odor of male spray ( which we had to deal with this week with out latest arrival who is at the hospital right now getting snipped OUCH!)

How long have these kitties been living in the same home? Maybe its a time thing.. I currently have 14 in the home and with in weeks  ( some times months for some) they all tend to get along. They eat, sleep an play together usually.

Subjekt: help stop the seal hunt!!
It's that time of year again: The ice floes off the Canadian coast are about to turn red with the blood of the countless baby harp seals who are slaughtered for their fur.

Words cannot describe the cruelty of the annual seal "hunt," which is really more of a massacre and will begin in just a few days. To stop this yearly atrocity, we must generate an international outcry against the Canadian government. I hope that you will support PETA's public call for an end to this slaughter by immediately taking two important actions:
Sign PETA's international petition to Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper. Our goal is to gather signatures from more than 50,000 people who want to tell the prime minister that "fashion" is no justification for spilling baby seals' blood.

Support PETA's efforts to stop the slaughter of baby seals and the use of all animals for fur. Your online donation will bring more pressure to bear on the Canadian government and the international fur trade.
Canada's annual seal hunt is the largest slaughter of marine animals on Earth. Last year, more than 330,000 baby harp seals were beaten to death so that they could be made into fur coats, collars, and cuffs. The Canadian government claims that hunters only kill adult seals, but 97 percent of the seals killed last year were less than 3 months of age.

Most of these seals are too young to realize that they should try to escape when their killers approach. They lie totally vulnerable on the ice as their heads are bashed in with clubs. Many are dragged across the ice—still conscious—with boat hooks. Often these sensitive animals are skinned alive for their fur. Their bodies are left to rot on the ice because there is no market for their meat.

The Canadian government has authorized hunters to kill more than 335,000 harp seals this year—one of the largest quotas in history. There is no place in the 21st century for this wanton and frivolous cruelty. Canada must end this abomination, but it will take a lot of pressure to compel the government to stop the hunt.
PLEASE!!!! go to peta's website and sign the petition to help try and stop this hunt!!!

Rose: Thank Goodness we dodged a bullet on that one..we feed royal canin..there have been SEVERAL pets in the local area effected by the recalled food..One guy is the head of one of the local shelters here..his 2 kitties are both very sick from it and being treated by our vet.Just heard on the news that the company may have known it was toxic but chose to ship it anyways..I REALLY hope that is NOT the case!!

Subjekt: Re:
anastasia: If they did know it was toxic an sold it anyway I hope they all burn for it. Pets are considered 'kids' to many ppl and to lose them thru neglect from a food company is sad. I am lucky to have heard about it early as we had some store brand wet in gravy that we avoided using.

BerniceC: I think I got lucky when I saved a kitten last summer. Munch was given Hill's Prescription Diet m/d a few weeks after getting back home from intensive care. Either those old batches were okay, or...maybe we'll just never know.

What's got me puzzled is the talk about bad wheat gluten in dog and cat foods. There are some vegetarians (check!) who eat wheat gluten in certain kinds of Chinese food (check! check!). I never managed to find out whether I should be concerned.

ATTENTION PET owners

another recall NATURAL BALANCE venison and Brown Rice Dry Dog Food and Venison and Green Pea Dry Cat Food has been recalled.
My cats ate it last nite .. we have just gotten it last nite.. so they only had it one time.. We heard on NBC it was recalled for causing kidney failure.. If you use that food stop feeding it to your pets right away and contact your local vets ASAP!!!!

Subjekt: Re:
Rose: Thanks for the heads up Rose. I don't think feeding that food once would hurt your kitties. It is so sad that they keep adding more foods to that recall list. I don't buy much dog food anymore. Have been cooking ground turkey or hamburger mixed with rice for my dogs. Also got chicken quarters on sale so I boil that for them. The only thing is they don't get all the vitamins and calcium that way so I have to give supplements. I will be glad when the recall is over with..

I bought a big bottle of calcium at the vet's and I think WalMart also has some supplements.

Rose: Our vet is regularly on the 6 pm news..and I had just heard him talking about people that "home cook" for their pets..he had also mentioned having to add suppliments because of the home cooked food lacking certain vitimans and minerals...I cannot believe all the recalls..I work at a grocery store and they seem to be coming in every other day to us!! Something NEEDS to be done..FAST and a full scale investigation needs to be launched into this matter!!

The Natural Balance venison an pea dry food was just found to have the same chemical as menu foods. Melamine is a plastic thts been found in rice protein now from china..
I coulda killed my cats if I had fed this to them. I was given enough to last me 3 months. OMG Im sick just thinking about it.

I find that for my dog it is cheaper to give him human meat.....I buy him y-bone steaks (with bone in) and buy in bulk when they are at their cheapest...dog food is too expensive. I also buy him chicken necks and he has a fish/meat/cheese dry food that I get him.

My cat eats a small tin of cat food twice a day along with dried food. About a month ago, the cat food was reduced from 89c per small tin down to 48c per tin....I went beserk LOL and spent $170 dollars on tinned cat food hahahah...well at nearly $2 per day when it is normal price (for the 2 tins) this will still only last him approx 3 months ....

BerniceC: Sounds good.. Prob is I dont have one or two cats. Hubby and I do cat rescue and currently have 15 in our home. We cant afford to buy raw food or chicken an rice. It would put us in the poor house. We rely on a rescue group that donates food to us for the babies. They give us the hard food an we still buy wet food. They all get about two tbsp's of wet for breaky a day.. Plus we buy a bag of CD its a salty food that was recommended for cats to encourage them to drink water. If we had to buy all the hard food too.. oye!

Im so glad you got the food that cheap! I would have stocked up as well!
