jadarite: GameSpy is not a game site, it just publishes game reviews. Yahoo is probably maintained by a much bigger team than BrainKing. By the way, who told you that I want to compete with other sites? That's not my intention at all. I have my own rules and I change them only if I want to, not because someone claims that "other sites have it!". There is no real time chat feature on BrainKing because it's not necessary to add it. When I change my mind, I will implement it. But now I don't think it would be worth the effort.
jadarite: A weakness? Allowing everybody to post embedded elements of any kind and anywhere would be a real weakness. Please show me a game site which allows its users to do it.
pauloaguia: Well, the former purpose of the simple style was to create an equivalent to the main Castle style without any graphics, which is the reason why it has inherited some style attributes. But it can be changed, of course. Or people could try to switch back to the Castle one.
BIG BAD WOLF: The site will be always slower for some users, especially for those who start more than 1000 games at once, no matter if they like it or not. And this issue does not belong to the design board.
BIG BAD WOLF: To calculate the BKR change takes several milliseconds and the majority of other information on the game pages is pre-cached in the BK allocated memory, so there are almost no database queries at all. As I have said, the lookups are very optimized and usually eat only a fraction of the whole request-response time.
BIG BAD WOLF: Have you tried to calculate how many kilobytes you would save if the listed parts of the game pages were removed? Not much, I can assure you. The biggest amount of transferred data is contained in the game board code itself and since it's the most important part of the page, it must stay there. If you experience a slower loading of the page, it is usually caused by other things which have nothing to do with BrainKing's visual layer.
Gordon Shumway: Yes, I do. When a style is finished and works with no problems on all major web browsers (Firefox, IE 7, Opera), I will add it to the BrainKing repository and everyone will be able to set it on the Settings page.
