Subjekt: Re: Is it just me,
I occasionally think that also, but I think it's just my eyes playing tricks on me. That is I also play backgammon on GoldToken which has your dice on the left side of the screen (instead of the right here), so I mess things up sometimes.

The points are how many "spaces" you have left to go in the game, so yes - the least amount of point you have in most cases, they better you are.

Plus I just looked at your only anti-backgammon game where it is your opponents turn and I can not see the dice of his either (as myself or guest)

Mamba - I just tested this and I can not find this bug at all, and it looks like it is fixed to me

Here is what I found:
Player 1 invites player 2 to a anti-backgammon game, player 2 accepts.

Guest looks - see's no dice yet

Player 1 looks at game, sees dice of 5-2, and loses first roll, submits.

Guest looks at game and see's the 5-2 roll

Player 2 vies games, and moved 5-2 and submits

Guest views game, can only see 5-2

Player1 views games, see's new roll of 6-2, moves and submits

Guest views game and only sees roll of 6-2

.... and so on, and so on

===================

The only thing I can think about the games you posted about below is that they had already looked at the board but did not make a move yet. If you look at other games in the same tournament (as a guest), you will find that you can not see the dice.

Again, how do you know someone else is "rolling your dice"?

I mean according to the Bug Tracker ( Bug #54), This was already fixed. So PLEASE let us know how someone is still rolling your dice that way we can update the bug tracker and get the problem fixed.

My question would be

1) how do you know someone else (a guest) "tripped" your dice?

2) Why would it matter - can a person actually make the dice roll differently or in a certain way by doing this?

I mean to me, if the dice are rolled randomly now, or later - it will give me the same result both times - random dice.

Plus take for example that you see that your opponent can land on your piece (maybe moving you back 10 pips), but you look far enough ahead to see you can then move after that and land on his piece (moving him back 20 pips) - so there is a whole new eliment to the game.

Would love some additional input of these rules of Domino-Gammon which I'm compiling to a website.

Domino-Gammon

It would be a game I would love to see here on BrainKing, but I'm also going to start "pushing" these rules elsewhere - so I would love so input about anything! (here, in private message, or in e-mail would be great!)

So BrainKing can not beat that since BrainKing was not around until Sept 2002! :-)

ok... fun reading, but lets get back to the topic of gammon games please.

[first edit:] post past this point have been removed - if it keeps going, I will delete and hide user(s). Take it to General Chat - you can "chat" about anything there! Thanks.

[second edit:] Only post removed so far were post not on the subject of Gammon which is the purpose of this board. There is no point keeping many post not about that subject here for all the users who come to this board to read about gammon games. I have not deleted any post that were made before this post.

[third edit]: off topic post have been removed. All hiden users are now seen again. Please keep post on topic for now on. Thanks.

If both you and your opponent agree to restore the game, have the person (who did not time out) send a message to Fencer with the game number asking for it to be restored & Fencer will usually do that.

I would think 16 could be possible with "bad" moves by the other players - since the other player could quickly open up the board and let the quick player start using double 6's all rolls instead of double 5's/3's.

My shortest games was 0 moves - other player ran out of time! :-)

LJ - I would agree that turn-based cubing is pointless (That is if you are looking for quick games) Some people don't mind longer games, and an idea is to put a "warning" on cubed games (once they come here) that games could take longer then normal... or something like that.

Actually a good place to play quicker backgammon "cubed" tournament is www.dailygammon.com - which is turn based, but was a cool unique "computer guessing" which will allow you to make mulitple moves in one turn.

Subjekt: Re: Question
But since currently the double cube is not used at this site, and all games are a 1 point match - sometimes (if far behing) it is a stratigy to keep some of your pieces in the players home field in the hopes of taking out one of thier checkers and hopefully giving you a second chance.... but when playing with the cube, that is a very dangerous strategy since you could lose 2-3 times the value of the cube.

Again, if you really feel that someone is sitting somewhere and personnaly giving you bad dice, you should just go somewhere else to play.

Why don't we tell whoever is messing with your dice to stop? Well because for 1) We do not know who is doing that, and 2) I personally do not believe that someone would do that.

Again, I don't think there is any way for me (or anyone) to make you believe that, so maybe it would be best just to play somewhere else that you trust more.

5. januára 2004, 16:22:11
coan.net
Don't take this the wrong way, but if you really feel that this is the "worst site on the internet", maybe you should try playing somewhere else.

I personally do not believe that someone would take the time out of their lives to personally pick out a pawn and make them get bad rolls.... I also believe that there is nothing I can say will change your mind either.... so honestly, if you really feel that way - it might be best to just start playing somewhere else.

Sometimes draw is a good thing for example if one person had an emergancy and can not finish the game and to be nice to just draw the game instead of taking the lose.

But like always, it is up to the person if they want to accept or decline a draw. Personally if I'm going to win a game, I will not draw either - it would be better for the other person to just resign.

Yea, that game (HERE) is a perfect example of things that have be talked about over and over here on some of the backgammon boards.

The "real" backgammon rules state that a player must use both dice if possible. Here at BrainKing, it does not enforce that rule. (So some players call it cheating, yet others call it OK since it is allowed).

I'm not sure what Fencers feelings are on the subject - since he is the "main" person, he would be the one to decide if the move should be allowed or not. (I'll send him a message and ask) - I'll post a reply or ask him to! :-)

Subjekt: Crowded Backgammon Tournament
In my fellowship (The Gammon Cube), we have a Crowded tournament every month (Around the 25th of each month) [I have sent you an invite to that fellowship]

For the Main Tournaments, you will probable have to look for "all game" or "all gammon" tournaments, not very often does someone start just a Crowded tournamnet.

.... but you are a Rook now, you could start your own Crowded tournament! :-)

Well it looks like they guy signed on, started many games and has not been back since.

Currently time out on games are off, so until they are turned on, the games will not time out.

BUT - you may be in luck. Since the other player has NOT completed his second move, you should be able to "Delete" the game without it hurting your rating. (If you bring up the game, it should have a Offer Draw, Resign, & Delete)

If Delete is not there, you may have to ask Fencer to see if he can just remove it for you. You can also resign, but if you do that and not "delete", it may show on your rating.

Hope this helps!

The Gammon Cube is now OPEN!

With almost 400 players with extablished BKR, and 1,000 players with provisional BKR ratings - Backgammon is the most popular game here at BrainKing.

So The Gammon Cube is a place to discuss the game, have some tournaments, and possible create a team for once inter-fellowship tournaments start. (All are optional - meaning you can join and play in some tournaments but don't need to join a team if you are already on another team).

The Gammon Cube has all 5 of the current gammon games, and will include all the other versions that are yet to come!

EVERYONE IS WELCOME - All Skill Levels - So if you are interested, please come and join The Gammon Cube.

Subjekt: New Game Ideas
*** PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR OPINION ***

*** GOOD OR BAD - Other ideas? ***

-- I posted this in the Feature requests board, but thought I would post it here so it would give room for people to talk about it. Here is a copy of the post:
-------

I have a couple of ideas for a couple of game variations that I would like to see.

1. Dark Backgammon Race (or Regular/Nack/Crowded?)
- Basicly just like regular backgammon. You don't see ANY place that you don't have your own piece, so you will never be "blocked" and allowed to move to any place.

Now when you move to a place that is open, your piece stays there. If you move to a place that only has 1 opponent piece, you take it like normal gammon. If you move to a place that has 2 or more oppenent pieces, your piece will be placed back to the bar like it was taken out.

So this game would involve a lot more strategy - making you want to set up many places of 2 or more pieces to take away your opponents pieces when they land on you.

I believe this would be better as Dark Battleboats Race. Also I'm debating if it would be good to hide the opponents dice or not.

---------------------
2nd game idea!
---------------------
2. Backgammon Attack.
- Basicly it is the same as Backgammon, but with the rule that you can also win once you land and move your oppenets piece to the bar for the 10th time. I also think this would be good as Backgammon Race Attack - since then you could try to keep many of your own pieces in your own bar to come out and "attack" unprotected pieces that have been places in your area.

How I understand it is that the current rating system here is great for skill based games (Like Chess).

But when you start to get into more "luck" based games (which Backgammon is a little luck - and Battleboats will be more luck when it gets here) - you need to use a different rating system to be more fair - since the current rating system is good for skill games and not luck.

I do not know all the details on the FIBS rating system that is used on the beter backgammon game sites, but it would be a better rating system to use for Backgammon - and probable other more "luck" based games like Battleboats.

That is what I understand the problem to be. :-)

Just say which games they are, and I'll see if I can tell anything. (What type of game and with who - possible your color if your playing 2 game match)

You can click on the person, and see all games going - and look at each game going I believe.

Zmenené užívateľom coan.net (7. júla 2004, 22:48:52)
Well there are a couple of things you can do.

1. Check out the Anti-Backgammon Ratings and pick someone lower on the list and try to invite them to a game.

To post in the waiting room - When you see the "100 = BKR = 2700" - Change the 2700 to something lower. (NOTE: A while back, I think I was reading somewhere that this did not work correctly - but it may have been fixed by now.) But if you Include the unrated players, some great player may join since they may have not played many games yet.

ALSO - before you send the game to the waiting room, you have the option of writing a message for opponent. I would put in there that you new, and would like to play someone who is not going to win quickly.

Hope this information helps!

Ugh - are you having fun yet? Time to get back on-topic! :-)

Subjekt: Problem with gammon games
Here is a good example of how the rules are wrong on this site.

Here is the Link: LINK HERE

In the example above, I'm black - I rolled a 1&5. Now the game here would have let me just move the "1" from 2 spot to the 1 spot... leaving the "5" dice to do nothing.

The rules should make me move with both of my dice if I can (which I did) - but this is a good example of when it would have been better for my game to cheat and only use my "1" dice.

21. apríla 2003, 23:13:32
coan.net
Well if I were to compare the problem with Backgammon with a move in Chess - I would compare it to the "en passant" in Chess. A lot of "non-expirenced" chess players do not even know about the "en passant" rule - just like many "non-expirenced" backgammon players dose not know about the rule being discussed.

My Opinion: The rule in Backgammon should be fixed when there is time for Fencer to do it. Is it VERY important? Well not to me - but apparently for others it is. I would like to see if fixed soon, but I can live without it for now! Those are my thoughts. :-)

20. apríla 2003, 10:26:43
coan.net
First: I think when Fencer gets some extra time, it would be nice to get all the rules correct. But I would prefer that he use his time now for new games, and other improvments. Having the rules not there is not hurting the game.

Kevin: For the example of if someone rolls a 2 and a 6 - and only 1 checker can move 6 spaces, and many can move 2 spaces. Then when the person moves the one checker that can move 6 spaces - 2 spaces instead of six, leaving the 6 die to do nothing.

Anyway, most of the time it is to a persons advactage to move all 8 spaces, but at times it is not. If that person was made to move 6 spaces, it might "open" up the board for the other player to hit his checker.

... maybe by that player just moving his "2" checker, he doubles up everything - where if he was made to follow the rules, he might have to open a few spots up for a chance of the other player to "hit" him.

16. apríla 2003, 01:42:42
coan.net
Subjekt: Backgammon rules
Yea, most of the turn-based games sites (like here, IYT, and I think Gold Token) do not go by the rules when it comes to that - unless the site is made just for Backgammon ( DailyGammon) - it seems like some of the "odd" rules are left out.

I have also found this problem:
--------------
Lets take for example if you roll a 6 and a 2. Lets say only 1 of your checkers are able to move 6 spaces (and many can move 2 spaces)

So instead of moving that 1 checker 6 spaces, you move it only 2 - leaving the "6 dice" to do nothing, and your move is ended.

-------------------------

It's a known problem here - but also on the other games sites as well.

Question is: Do we want to waste the site administrators time fixing these small problems, or getting new games up and running? (I vote for new games)

BIG BAD WOLF's stategy so far:

Well when I first started playing this, I played it like I do my Backgammon Race games (which I'm pretty good at) - which is try to keep a few checkers in the bar to try and mess up the other person.... but this did not work!

So my new stategy is to try to play it more like backgammon - that is get the checkers off my bar more quickly. Not sure how well this will work, but I'm at least started to win more games now.... :-)
