I need help fast!!!
Who is good with astronomy and equations?? I have been struggling now for the last several hours trying to get my homework done!! It is due in four hours.. and it deals with Kepler's Third Law M = a3/T2
Terry was a very special person. This comes as a shock..and his web pages are down too. Amazing what things we take for granted. i will play in that tourney, it's all I can do to show respect.
I had the pleasure of playing Terry Trotter in several games of Gothic, Loop, Fortress, and Janus chess. Terry was friendly, kind, and patient with a novice like me. He never made me wait for weeks to make a move and he always had something nice and interesting to say. If I can pay homage to him I will say that we should remember him like this: "He was a darn good player."
I have joined the tournament in his memory, I hope to play with all of you there.
Terry was nice enough to send me a postcard from his country telling me how much he liked Gothic Chess. He said he would play me one day "when he got better", but I told him to invite me at his leisure. We never did actually cross swords, but I was thankful he did send me that postcard. I received several from around that world that I showed to candidate investors from time to time, all of which had some sort of note about how much they liked the game.
I know you are a superior player now Terry, so if you want a game, here is my move.

Just to let you know that Terry aka TTrotter and Jestone from El Salvador has passed away on 18 September, 2004. Those of you who knew him will miss his great sportmanship. Peace and best wishes to his family.

<>you need to read the directions. it is not a checkmate problem. Look at any number on the grid, then >look at the piece below it, and the "crystal ball" will read your mind and tell you what you are looking at.
I knew that of course. I would be a complete idiot if i thought it is a checkmate problem. I just set up another problem....
Except the fact that the same symbol appears at every number that it's divisible by 9, does any other pattern for the appearance of the pieces exists? As i see the distribution of the pieces is not totally random and in fact it is not random at all. I think the pieces appear each time with the same analogy. But anyway it doesn't matter much.........
Whitetower, exactly! Of course when I said randomized, I meant the "hook" symbols. The others, as you know, are window dressing and inconsequential to Ed's miraculous ability to read my mind :)

this looks like a fairy chess problem.
you could even have "better" conditions: both sides have the 10 pawns, and no pawn will have moved. the exchanging is done by the knights, or in gothic also by the A and C.
It might possible to play an entire game, exchange off all of the Rooks, and still have one side with all 10 pawns, but is it probable? Is it plausible for an entire game to be played this way?
14-day free trial is only for real-time games, I assume? Because the site boasts:
"Free - Its free to sign up and begin playing right away"
...
"Well, the first thing you need to do is go ahead and sign up for your free cowplay.com game account."
And no mention of 14 days anywhere there on in their nice Windows-like Help popup...
The real-time play requires a hefty Java component download, but other than that, the site is enjoyable. I have two Gothic games going on there right now, and their pieces are really quite nice.
That was what I meant;I presently lead some matches by 2-0 or else am assured of wins that will make the score 2-0 and yet if you look at my profile you would think my record of wins verses losses was quite a bit worse than it actually is because these wins are not yet counted or rated. In actuality I have 7 wins and 4 losses more than my profile shows because of matches. That is why I will avoid matches in the future;unless this discreptency is corrected. I have some games where my win is assured because the mate is easy to foresee and I have worked out all contengencies on my boarb at home;but my opponants seem to be making me mate them. Personally I can not see why they do this;when instead of playing out a hopeless game;we could start the next game in the match and they would would have a new oppoturnity to get a win. But that is their choice;I will win those games anyway.
Yes, the Advance Variation of the Caro-Kan. Also, in one Morphy game, Steinitz gave his Kd2!! a double exclam. Rare instances, but examples nonetheless.

I would rather defend a Castled position than defend a 3 fronted war by staying in the center. If someone is attacking you...you cannot leave that position unguarded, so why not castle early and say, "Here I am come and get me if you can"!
Almost all of chess opening theory has Castling early...then attacking! I know of no opening that has a King in the center...does anyone know of one?
I'm learning exactly that Ed...when I castle right away..seasoned players pick me off pretty quick...but if I set up for the castle...holding off for a shift...I stand a good chance of experiencing a great game.but of course..when I miss the shift....work is definetly cut out for me!
Castling has always been a double-edged sword. Do it too early, and you telegraph where to send the troops. Do it too late, and you are trapped in the center and have a dog fight to stay alive.
Timing is everything, even amplified moreso than in regular chess.
Over a year ago we had a discussion about Castling! Should we Castle early in the game...or should we castle later on?
Many people seemed to think that if one Castled early the new pieces that make up Gothic Chess...because they are so powerful that committing to an early Castle would spell Doomsday!
On the other hand, Castling early is an advantage becuase of piece devlopment toward an attacking goal with King safety!
I am in favor of early Castling which I would deem to be somewhere in the area of 8-12 moves.
What does everyone else think now that they have played many more games!
