TexasToest: Yes,she is quite talented! She not only writes most of her own lyrics but has also written and cowritten songs for Kelly Clarkson (Where Is Your Heart and Walk Away),Avril Lavigne and Gwen Stefani(Rich Girl). She is Canadian and hails from Winnipeg,Manitoba and is married to Raine Maida, the lead singer of Our Lady Peace.
EIHN: I've never heard of this album nor the band. I do think, however that sometimes people judge (or misjudge) music before giving it a chance.
A co worker of mine once said she didn't like the Metallica song 'Enter Sandman' because they mention ending your life! LOL She had the lyrics wrong (obviously)
Exit light
Enter night...to her sounded like exit light...end your life! She wasn't a fan of heavy metal and was under the misguided impression that it was evil.
Cole: Part of what makes this world great is diversity! :-) Everyone has their own unique tastes and appreciation of those differences is key to a congenial discussion! :-)
Geddy's unique voice is only one of the many things that have made RUSH great!! Alex on guitar and Neil on drums...masterful to say the least!! I saw Rush in concert many years ago. Peart's drum solo was magnificant!! There wasn't another sound in the Staduim while he played!!
The collective talent of these 3 muscians have made Rush a true icon of rock music!(Yes,I'm a huge fan lol)
Is it any wonder after 3 decades and 30 albums this band still ROCK!! :-)
My fave male performer is Jim Reeves! His voice is(was) so strong! Garth Brooks was a performance genius. He had all the right elements to create a strong following and make megabucks!
But that's the thing...Some are performers while others do it for the love of music. I suppose some are both...
Patsy Cline had the most awesome female voice that I've heard. She's in a class of her own (IMO) Of course Martina McBride can hold her own against any current female performer!!
Yes,my taste leads me to country music, athough I appreciate almost all genres. Rob Thomas from Matchbox 20 makes me sit up and take notice when he sings! Also,Avril Lavigne,Paul McCartney,Eric Clapton,Sheryl Crow.....etc!
My fave bands are The Eagles,Fleetwood Mac,The Beatles,Aerosmith and the Rolling Stones!
Hoobastank is my current fave!!
I think it's obvious Kammy, that you are not the best choice for moderator here. The problems here did not exist until you became moderator.
Now here is my song:
Take this job and shove it
I ain't working here no more
I will not get all the pieces
I've been working for
Paper cups, minimum wage
Just walk on out the door
Take this job and shove it
I ain't working here no more
Take this job and shove it
I ain't working here no more
I will not get all the pieces
I've been working for
Paper cups, minimum wage
Just walk on out the door
Take this job and shove it
I ain't working here no more
They'll have you in this factory
From now on for fifty years
All this time I see my woman
Drowning in her tears
I see a lot of people who
Got to have a piece of me
I'd give the shirt right off my back
If I had the nerve to say
Take this job and shove it
I ain't working here no more
I will not get all the pieces
I've been working for
Paper cups, minimum wage
Just walk on out the door
Take this job and shove it
I ain't working here no more
Let's all go use our sick leave up
And then we'll shoot some pool
Got brand new skinhead hair cuts
You think he's a fool
One of these days I'll blow my top
Or somebody's gonna pay
I'd hate to see the process
As you enter the factory and say
Take this job and shove it
I ain't working here no more
I won't let that shit bother me
That I've been working for
Paper cups, minimum wage
Just walk on out the door
Take this job and shove it
I ain't working here no more
Take this job and shove it
I ain't working here, ain't working here, ain't working here no more
You want everyone to enjoy this board? What a crock! Let people post then perhaps they will enjoy this board. You haven't allowed my previous post and I'm sure you won't allow this one,but others have posted similar posts to mine and have been allowed. Can I have a logical explanation, please?
Two days past eighteen,
He was waitin' for the bus in his army greens.
Sat down in a booth, in a cafe there,
Gave his order to a girl with a bow in her hair.
He's a little shy but she give him a smile,
So he said: "Would you mind sittin' down for a while?
"And talkin' to me. I'm feelin' a little low."
She said: "I'm off in an hour and I know where we can go."
So they went down and they sat on the pier,
He said: "I bet you got a boyfriend but I don't care,
"I got no one to send a letter to.
"Would you mind if I sent one back here to you?"
I cried: "Never gonna hold the hand of another guy."
"Too young for him," they told her.
Waitin' for the love of the travellin' soldier.
"Our love will never end."
Waitin' for the soldier to come back again
Never more to be alone when the letter says,
My soldier's comin' home.
The letters came from an army camp,
In California, then Vietnam.
He told her of his heart, it might be love,
And all of the things he was so scared of.
He said: "When it's gettin' kinda rough over here,
"I think of that day, sittin' down at the pier.
"And I close my eyes and see your pretty smile.
"Don't worry, but I won't be able to write for a while."
One Friday night at a football game,
The Lord's Prayer said, and the anthem sang,
A man said: "Folks would you bow your head,
"For the list of local Vietnam dead."
Cryin' all alone under the stands,
Was the piccolo player in the marching band.
And one name read and nobody really cared,
But a pretty little girl with a bow in her hair.
Where were you when the world stopped turnin'
that September day?
Out in the yard with your wife and children;
Or working on some stage in L.A.?
Did you stand there in shock at the sight of that black smoke
Rising against that blue sky?
Did you shout out in anger in fear for your neighbor
Or did you just sit down and cry?
Did you weep for the children
that lost their dear loved ones?
Did you pray for the ones who don't know?
Did you rejoice for the people who walked from the rubble
and sob for the ones left below?
Did you burst out in pride for the red white and blue
And the heroes who died just doin' what they do?
Did you look up to heaven for some kind of answer?
And look at yourself for what really matters?
(Chorus)
I'm just a singer of simple songs;
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN, but I'm not sure I can tell you the difference
in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith, Hope and Love are some good things He gave us
And the greatest is Love.
Where were you when the world stopped turning
That September day?
Teaching a class full of innocent children;
Driving down some cold interstate?
Did you feel guilty 'cause you're a survivor
in a crowded room did you feel alone?
Did you call up your mother and tell her you love her?
Did you dust off that bible at home?
Did you open your eyes hope it never happened;
And close your eyes and not go to sleep?
Did you notice the sunset the first time in ages;
Or speak to some stranger on the street?
Did you lay down at night and think of tomorrow;
Go out and buy you a gun?
Did you turn off that violent old movie you're watchin'
And turn on "I Love Lucy" reruns?
Did you go to a church and hold hands with some strangers?
Stand in line and give your own blood?
Did you just stay home and cling tight to your family
Thank God you had somebody to love?
(Chorus)
I'm just a singer of simple songs;
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN, but I'm not sure I can tell you the difference
in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young

And I remember this from when I was young

And the greatest is Love.
And the greatest is Love.

Majenta Spiral, imho,I think you are taking A M KM's words out of context. I think if you take a minute to reread what he wrote you will see that.
The message I got from his response was that in general people saw what John was writing and singing about much more clearly after his death. Sort of like understanding the force of a hurricane after living through one. That is human nature and not really a choice.
Also,A M KM states he would have preferred John's music over Paul's as he got older anyway (that part having nothing to do with John's untimely death).
David, your vast knowledge of music would and should indicate your teasing about the Canadian contribution to music via bands! LOL
Your words made me smile, for that I thank you! :-)
Love that line up Chief. Although no Best Singers list would or could be complete without the legendary Patsy Cline. Now that's a voice!!!
Crazy Rules! Lyrics by Willie Nelson:
Crazy, I'm crazy for feeling so lonely
I'm crazy, crazy for feeling so blue
I knew you'd love me as long as you wanted
And then someday you'd leave me for somebody new
Worry, why do I let myself worry?
Wond'ring what in the world did I do?
Crazy for thinking that my love could hold you
I'm crazy for trying and crazy for crying
And I'm crazy for loving you
Crazy for thinking that my love could hold you
I'm crazy for trying and crazy for crying
And I'm crazy for loving you.
