Board for everybody who is interested in BrainKing itself, its structure, features and future.
If you experience connection or speed problems with BrainKing, please visit Host Tracker and check "BrainKing.com" accessibility from various sites around the world. It may answer whether an issue is caused by BrainKing itself or your local network (or ISP provider).
AbigailII: It's not about prize tournaments. What they say (and don't want to discuss about it) is they have to make a payment to play these games, which is simply not true. Prize tournaments are optional. If you make some features restricted to paying members only, it does not mean that it supports their distorted opinion (or can a bureaucrat even have own opinion?).
By the way, PayPal is playing it safe? That's very unlikely. First of all, they admit that games of chance are not a problem but games of skill are. We have games of skill here since the very beginning of BrainKing, why hadn't they bothered me with it 3 years ago, for instance? Second, my account belongs to PayPal Europe, it has nothing to do with U.S. gambling regulations or how they call this nonsense.
It is not a good attitude to find a logic in it. Good thing is that we don't actually need them because about 70% of our income comes through other online payment gateways or wire transfers. But people should know about it before they start to defend PayPal.
coan.net: Thanks for providing these links, I knew only the first one. I've just posted the first part of the story, it is mostly related to this BrainKing issue. The second part will contain outcomes and conclusions which can be applied to any site, so it might be more interesting to those who plan to open a web shop or similar business and start to accept PayPal payments.
MrWCF: Yes, the prize must be provided first. The reason is that we had had problems with prize tournaments in the past because of users who disappeared from BrainKing shortly after the tournament start and when it was finished, there was nobody to provide the prize. This is the proper action to do:
1) Create a prize tournament and describe the prize in the tournament name or description.
2) Use the "Paid Membership" page to pay for the prize. Don't forget to check the "Select if you want us to process it manually" option before placing the order.
3) When the payment is received, I will click the "prize provided" button.
I know that this system is not too straightforward but I want to make it a little more automatic in the future.
TheCrazyPuppy: The purpose of the system is to avoid cheating with vacation days, not to make absolutely correct calculations in all cases, especially when someone starts more than 3000 games, so it would be too CPU-consuming to recalculate time left values for all such games. Anyway, if you have a vacation day today, the timeout checker will detect it and add 24 hours to all affected games.
The vacation system has been fixed. Or at least I hope so. Since the time left recalculations are queued in a separate thread (in order not to overload the server in case of too many changes of vacation days at once), there might be a short delay (a couple of seconds) before the game data reflect the change.
Anyway, it should not be possible to cheat with vacation days anymore.
MadMonkey: Although BrainKing contains many daemon processes, stalking in the depths of logical instructions and terminating ghosts in the machine, none of them is instructed to delete fellowship teams.
DeaD man WalkiN: Since BrainKing.info is located somewhere in USA and has no direct connection to BrainKing's database, it would have to be manually updated each time I add new achievements. It's not worth the effort.
DeaD man WalkiN: You can find it at your Profile / Achievements page. Completed achievements are shown with a light background, other ones with a dark background.
Undertaker.: Provisional ratings are VERY inaccurate and should not be taken too seriously. Established ratings should be always used to compare skills of players.
I've just noticed that the membership bonus checker does not have the current year updated, which is the reason why the bonus was not automatically added. To be fixed ASAP.
baddessi: Hehe. Thanks. You know, it's a positive thing that people complain about the site. It means that the site is important to them, otherwise they would not bother to post complaints and leave instead. Only dead sites get no complaints.
pauloaguia: I see. Yes, the current version is supposed to be free from most bugs. But, of course, it is possible to find new bugs even after the official release. However, I am sure that the algorithm to determine the winner is correct and bug free.
pauloaguia: I don't see any useful details at that post, so it is really hard to investigate, but I am sure that flushes were tested many times and there is no problem with it. Perhaps JPS could add more information (table ID, round number etc.) next time, instead of loads of questions marks.
new_user: Nobody wants to talk to you. The rules are clear and the accounts will remain banned. If you want to play here, create only ONE account, try not to break rules and stop whining on public boards. That's my only response to this "case".
