Your rating should change based on what your opponents rating was at the begining of your game. Then be added (or subtracted) from what your rating currently is....

Kevin
So p1.new and p2.old should be used to calculate p1's new rating, and p2.new and p1.old should be used to calculate p2's new rating?

22. Ekim 2004, 05:23:36

Kevin - what I think should happen - have the ratings change be calculated using the ratings that the game started with. So for example, lets say player 1 gained 10 point, player 2 loses 10 points.

I then think those changes in points should then be applied to the current ratings.

bwildman - I'm bring it up now to see what others think, and if it is a good idea and Fencer agrees - it might be something to look at before he does a the major recalculations. I believe most rating systems are currently based on over the table, live games. This being an on-line site, I believe how ratings are calculated should be adjusted for this time of games.

thats where I see the confusion,Kevin...both players ratings would have to remain the same through the duration of that particuar game...if yo have 100 plus games...how could anyone keep up?

When a game start, P1 is player #1 rating. P2 is players #2's ratings.

After a month or whatever, the game ends. At that time I think the calculation of rating change should use the P1 & P2 value which was from the start of the game (not current).

So using the old P1 & old P2 ratings - a change for each player is calculated.

Then that change that was calculated should adjust the current rating.

Lets say it is the first game of that type for both players when the game begins. You calculate what the bkr would be if the game ended as their only completed games, then be added/subtracted from whatever their BkR really is at the end of the game.

22. Ekim 2004, 05:39:23
Czuch
One problem I see is that BKR is calculated in part based on how many games have been played. If I start a game with you which lasts a year, and you finish 50 other games during that time, it wouldnt be fair anymore for my bkr to be calculated like you have played only one game.

good point IMCK - there is probable no perfect way either way since it is currently flawed. If I had to pick between the "2" systems, I would pick the one with the flaw you pointed out since you know about that before you start the game.

But lets think about this a little more - maybe there would be a beter "middle ground". Possible calculate ratings with ratings when the game started, but with current game counts?

Or intruduce those little smile face icons for paying members to use on the boards, and have a little smile face with a big thumbs down.

As somebody pointed out, I am not going to change the system after all tests of the generator are passed and two-three days before its launch.

I personally think the rating system is just fine the way it is.
There will always be points of contention, but it basically works and gives a good indication which is all we really need right ?

The ratings question is something I asked months ago, but it got burried with some other subject, and I never really thought about it again until I seen the server news. I understand why you would not want to change it.

... but maybe it would be good for a turn based game site to come up with a rating system designed around this type of play, and not a rating system for a totaly different type of play - over the table/live play... again, nothing that needs to happen here right now - but something to think about.

If it's a paying member, they may have auto-vacations set.

Ok! and there are a limit of time to auto-vacations? or if the palyer it´s a paying member then he can never more played the game if he want? and make crazy things like stopped all the tournament and games he played!

you have to take into consideration weekends...

Mclaudio : Limits on vacation are 30 days per year .

its a great idea for paying members who often never get a chance to use up their vacation days but have the peace of mind to go and take vacation whenever they wish knowing they will not time out.
A very good addition to this site by Fencer for paying members

I think its a pain in the butt, and a limit of maybe 2 extensions at most be allowed in any one ocurance
It is being abused

Not yet, pauloaguia. It should be done soon, I think Fencer has been too busy with the rating and graph things due to be implemented. And drining coffee. :o)

Auto vacation is a great feature..

However, I have to agree that perhaps a limit is needed.. It seems unreasonable for a tournament to be held up for potentially 30 days.. It seems as though a maximum of 2 or 3 days added through auto-vacation, per occurance, would be a good compromise...

23. Ekim 2004, 00:48:30
harley
rod, there has been a discussion about that on the tournaments board tonight.

I think a limit is a good thing, but I think it should be 5 auto vacations at a time (so with 2 weekend days, it gives them a week)

I think a week is not too much to give to a person who is in an emergency.

23. Ekim 2004, 01:10:36
Czuch
If they are truely of the site, for whatever reason, then they should get the full benefit of their vacation and weekend/holiday time. But, if they are logged on at anytime, auto vacations should not be implimented.

23. Ekim 2004, 01:17:48
Stevie
BBW that makes 9 days, not a week

i have a question about auto vacations. what kind of car will we get for it?? teee heee

23. Ekim 2004, 01:28:39
coan.net
It could be between 7-9 depending on when the "weekend" days fall.

If it falls in between the 5 days, it will only be 7. if it falls at the start, or end - then there would be 2 weekend days for 9 days.

23. Ekim 2004, 01:29:33
