Rose!! eehh..MOLLY..there IS such a designation, beneath the gameboard it says :
Tournament: First official BrainKing.com tournament
Game ID: xxxxx
It is MOLLY's turn.
Time per move: 5 days (14. January 2003, 10:28:38 is the last term before timeout for this move)
Public game (visible for other players)
Rated game (the result will be calculated for players' BKR)
Weekend days: Saturday and Sunday (change)
Hi Fencer.. Before I ask you what I have been sent here to ask you I want it stated that this is not my question but a question from a player who is too chicken to type it her self!!(no names tho MOLLY!!!!!!)
She would like to know.. If you can make some type of designation in the tourney game itself so SHE knows its a tourney game.. It says it before you click on the game but when you are actually in the game it doesnt show it (if it does we cant see it)... again for the record this is MOLLY's question! Thank you for your time!
I find the white background on here very hard to take after a while .. like looking into a blizzard, can we have a colored background? I also find the white captured chess pieces are hard to see when you capture some because they blend into the background checkered cloth
Poor Fencer, as if he doesn't have enough to do we are trying to add more to his work load. :-) Might as well put my two cents in, you players talking about quick games how about this. Have a link called "Fast Blast" What it would be on the main page a player can put his name up to the "Fast Blast" page and the available time he/she has to spend. Quote what game/s you want to play and/or how much time you have. Then whenever you want to get a game going back and forth for a while click on "Fast Blast" see what available people are up and choose someone. Play the game as normal, being you both are online at the same time just each take your turns. Should someone then have to leave they can go and the game will still be there to pick up later. A time limit is mute as your going back and forth anyway, plus say someone with kids had to stop for say five minutes but would be right back. But if you had a link where you could see the people willing to set out a some time to play you could see who they were and get something going. I'm just adding my ideas to the forum, there has already been some good ones.
I agree....but it would also need a timer on the moves so that someone could not hold the game up for too long in order to win a game. LOL As far as for how long per move.....I have no idea. LOL Any suggestions? :)
Can you put a stop on time! :oD Time just flys on here! I think Ive found a partner in crime to stop up with until daylight! Its 2.45am (UK) & Im playing MadMonkey! Theres some great people on this site, its just sooooooo difficult to tear yourself away!!!! LOL :oD xxx
i think addictive is the wrong word, but i can't think of a better one LOL. Still it only 2.05am here in the UK, was getting daylight when i got of last night or morning - whatever LOL :-)))
Oh wow! Thanks MadMonkey! I'm glad you liked the idea. I know there will be some kinks to work out but I think it would be a plus for the paying members. And I know what you mean about being on for so long! Isn't it just addictive! LOL :)
Might be silly but Fencer, have you ever thought of having 10 minute games? What I mean is....for those whose on-line friends that aren't on to play with at that moment. The people (members) that are on the site at that moment could post 10 minute games and have their exp. date as maybe 10 minutes or so. Then if someone was on-line that they wanted to play with, but not start a new game, could play for 10 minutes. You could maybe have the winner as the person who placed the most pieces and could only offer it to the "Members" as a plus for their membership. As smart as you are, you could put a timer on the game page and the person whose turn it was would have so many seconds to make a play. If they didn't then they forfeited their turn or something. The BKR's wouldn't have to count for these games since they would be set on a timer. It would be just for fun for the members who have to wait for someone to play against.
Ah, I see! I thought you were after replacing the current 2 games match with individually rated games within a 2 match set-up. As an extra it would work.
Yeah, I see where you're coming from now, its a good idea, but really shouldn't be necessary if two players agreed to have 2 individual games, one after the other, of different colours. Shame on them if they refuse you the second game after its been agreed.
Your rating should still go higher though, if you get a draw with a higher rated player. Not as much as if you'd won of course but it should go up a bit. Thats my understanding anyway.
And thanks grillyx for clearing up what Tony meant!
I think what tony is asking for here is really another option, a kind of guaranteed home-and-away individual two game match, and I don't see that it has to replace the existing best-of-two games which is quite a different thing. Can't we have both options?
I agree that I can get my outcome by offering 2 games, individual but I have to play both at the same time. That doesn't worry me, because I have unlimited games - but a load of Brain Pawns cannot cope with 2 games at once. I could start with a Black - but then, in my experience, the opponent refuses to play me with White!!
If I get a draw from a 2 game match with a higher rated player, then should I not be rewarded? That's what happens in single games?
Yes, I see what you mean (nice to hear form you too!), but for me thats the whole idea of these game matches, so the entire match decides the end ratings, not the individual games within the match. if I'm playing maharajah or horde chess, I like a 2 game match, the outcome is often a draw, which shows the ability of both layers at each colour since playing each colour is so different, and requires different strategies.
I think this caters for everyone, someone with a higher rating would win a 2 (or more) game match anyway, and people with lower ratings may score a draw. It gives everyone a chance.
You could always go for a 2 win match, nobody wins until someone has won 2 games. No chance of a draw there!
Or, like I say, offer 2 games, individual, one of each colour, and get ratings for both! If you make that clear at the beginning of the game thats what you want it shouldn't be a problem!
I agree that the point of the 2 game matches is one of each colour. However, surely there should be some ratings movement if there is a big difference in the opponents' ratings. Also, if one opponent scores two wins, the rating increases as though he/she had scored only one win. Do you get what i mean? Nice to hear from you.
But thats the whole point of these 2 game matches, so you can play one of each colour and the whole outcome could be a draw. Its especially good for games where one colour has an obvious advantage, like maharajah chess for example.
If you want separate ratings for each game then send 2 separate invites, one for each colour.
I like these matches, because of the automatic 2nd invite, which means we play with opposite colours. Also, we only get to play one of the 2 games at a time.
However, an increasing number of players want
1) each game to be seperately rated;
2) both games to show in their stats.
Could this be done?
I assume this would be quite difficult to add (could be wrong), but what about in Chess, Checkers, Tank Battle, Tablut, etc, when the piece you click on has only one legal move that the move be done and you are taken right to the "submit?" screen, rather then having to click the destination square as well. It does that on IYT, and seems to be quite useful :-)
I understand that the designer of this site must be a pretty busy person, however would he/she or anybody else have any idea how long before more games come on line to play?
Is there anyway you could possibly make a number or something somewhere on all the pages that shows that it is your turn in a game? Sometimes I get caught up in reading or looking and don't realize that it is my turn until I go back to the main page. Or would this be too much? Just a thought.
Fencer,
I want to say I love this game site and I'm planning on staying forever :) I just want to see if it would be nice to have a new game of 4-sided Chess with 4 players--one on each end of the board. I never played it before, but I seen the board of it and I don't know what's it called. I would be very glad if you do add it to this game to brainking.com :) Thank you for your time and have a Happy New Year!!
Ha ha, OK Northern Lights!! Its Harlequin, just without the vowels!! Easier?!!!!! Or just call me Michelle.. or anything you like, I'm sure you couldn't think of much I haven't been called before!! LOL!!
