Konu: Re: Enjoy these while you can, they're being yanked quickly
Jim Dandy: I'm glad we agree on those points. I saw David Gilmore in Hollywood a year ago April, then saw an audience bootleg video, and it (the video) really didn't capture the true excellence of the performance. Part of it could be being in the room watching the performance live. I allowed for that when I said "But then, that could also have been the room...." and, "Maybe it was the ambient noise that comes with audience generated chronicles."

rod03801: Here's the setlist(including a review of each songs presentation)

TexasToest:I was never that big into Zep as a kid,it was like being a fan of The Cowboys or The Yankees, too establishment. As I got older, and they were no longer shoved down my throat(I don't listen to rock radio anymore, just talk and sports)I became more appreciative of their talant and music. You can't really judge them fairly based on a few bootleg crowd recordings, when I took that into account,I thought they sounded suprisingly good.I've seen many a bootleg crowd film of tours I've attended, they aren't always a good indication of the quality,no bottom end in most cases also.
Konu: Re: Enjoy these while you can, they're being yanked quickly
rod03801: There's always room for one more Zeplin tune. Thanks for that. As I was watching it, it occured to me that Jimmy Page, regardless of his age, is still a fine guitar player, and that shone through. He's not as easy with himself as he used to be. The instrumentals were great in those clips, really. But, the voice, Plant's voice just wasn't as strong as it was earlier in his life, to my ear, anyway. He lacked the ability to make quick turns. But then, that could also have been the room.

TexasToest: Hope y'all don't mind another Zep video.. Since I got thinking about Misty Mountain Hop, I decided I had to go look for a video. What a cool song. Fun dancing to it (maybe SLIGHTLY impaired), too.
This is live, back in the 70's.. to compare them from when they were in their prime.
Konu: Re: Enjoy these while you can, they're being yanked quickly
rod03801: I did watch them through, this machine gets everything, but the servers were pretty busy for those files, most likely.
IMHO, they've lost a spark, not all, just a.. Maybe it was the ambient noise that comes with audience generated chronicles. But, my gosh! They are 59-63, Page being the oldest. I'm 61, and things change in your body, you just don't have the power. Even given that, they made a valiant effort, and they sounded pretty durned good for a bunch of grouchy old men. It's just a fact of life, you can't be 21 at 63, but you can still make a decent memory for your millions of fans. Don't ever stop loving them.
Konu: Re: Enjoy these while you can, they're being yanked quickly
Jim Dandy: I wonder if they did Misty Mountain Hop, last night. (My personal favorite Zep song ever). They are probably my favorite band ever. I would LOVE to get to see them someday. Do you find they compare to how they used to sound? (I couldn't really watch the videos. They were too choppy and it was just driving me crazy)
That was an interesting comparison. Robert Plant had such lovely hair when he was younger. But, they still make a joyful noise, don't they? What a Christmas present. That was quite a thrill.
I've always loved those musicals with all the dancing girls in the elaborate costumes on a dressed up stage and a big band playing their hearts out. So, I was just pawing around YouTube tonight looking for chapati recipes, and I found this:
From the 1941 movie UMA NOITE NO RIO staring Carmen Miranda and Don Ameche - sit back and get ready to smile.

awesome: I guess I won't listen to her as she gets older, then, will I? I didin't know she'd died, that's how much attention I pay.
Eriisa: Well, it's great, and soooooooooo much faster than that other machine. I'm very grateful he doesn't mind being shared. He could come hang around here some if he wanted to, especially when I start replacing components on this system. I need a DVD player that has a burner, and I need a new CD burner. The one I have never has worked right. It fails a lot, then I've succeeded in making a fine coaster.
But, I've got display problems. I'll have to spend some of tomorrow on the phone with the card manufacturer and ViewSonic to see if I can tweak the stuff we did today..
Yep, computer is fixed, thank you Eriisa, and your handy dandy CIO. That was very kind of you to share him with me. My new monitor is still gorgeous, and all is well in my world. I'm loving this 16-1/2" wide X 10" high 19" diagonal wide screen. Those videos come to life. Well, then there is the stereo I have hanging on my computer. I've gone through the videos I'd missed over the last few days. Thanks everybody for your posts.
Jim Dandy:
Veteran's Day Montage - Nice, thanks. It's in your face, but not in your face. I prefer subtle to being whacked over the head.
Marc Almond - I'd never heard that song, but I have to say it was quite exciting. I'm not sure if it was the heart he put into it, or the big band (you know how I feel about big bands). But, that was one stunning piece.
rod030801: Tainted Love - wasn't that the same stage as Say Hello & Wave Goodbye? (I guess Ewe answered that question.) Anyway, another big band sound. I have this soft spot, see? I did know that song, but like you, I'd never heard that arrangement. Really nice, thank you.
awesome: Tom T. Hall is always good, and I love that song. Tammy, well she seems to be seasoning, which is good. I guess maybe I'll start listening to her when she gets old, like Dolly.
OK, Jim the Dandiest. You hit on one of my VERY favorite cryin' tunes. Every time I hear that song, I just sob. So, ya got a tear out of me at last.
Hunkey: Hahaha! That's just the best, isn't it? It just cracks me up! Thanks so very much. It's Christmas now.
My computer is supposed to get fixed for sure tomorrow. I can't wait to watch all these videos. What a night, and I wasn't here. I'll catch up tomorrow. Glad ya' ll are having fun.
Jim Dandy: Yes I pretty much agree, I really like Tainted Love & Wave Hello say Goodbye, thanks for that vid, I enjoyed that! I love the Jools Holland show too which that performance was from.
TexasToest: Yes thats what my friend said aswell, that he thought Marc Almond was suffering from possible exhaustion & over heating. Like I said though, he finished his performance & seemed ok, so thankfully all was well! Ive never been to a gig where the performer collapses (or in this case nearly collapses) It must be scary for the audience aswell as everyone working on stage & back stage!
TexasToest: I love the melody and the power of delivery and vocal.I found the lyric very powerful, but some of the verses I strongly disagree, unless I missed the context
Jim Dandy: Intereting literature on the net about this, it feels like they are saying Joel is passing the baton. That's not the intent, IMHO. Dillon is a good singer, and sings the song with a lot of power, granted. Joel just wanted that power and youth to tell the story.
The thing that strikes me is this war is spurring music, which also happened during the Viet Nam war. Maybe, if the music community keeps it up, somone will hear it. Proliferate, proliferate, proliferate.
Ewe: Oh dear! Please let us know what happened with this. The show must go on, so we learn to be troopers. It might not always be the best thing for us.
My friend is repping a gig in London tonight for Marc Almond & they have just had to get the medics out to him as he has just nearly passed out on stage! Hes gone back on, very pale & not looking too good
I AM GOING INTO THE HOSPITAL ON MONDAY FOR SOME SURGERY AND WILL BE ON THE MEND FOR AWHILE. THAT'S WHY I'VE BEEN SCARCE ON HERE OF LATE AS WELL. BUT I WISH YOU ALL, NO MATTER HOW YOU CELEBRATE YOUR HOLIDAYS THE VERY BEST OF WISHES NOW AND IN THE NEW YEAR!
