Rod, those are great! And thanks so much for the commentary too! That's what I really enjoy than just someone tossing a video up with no comment about it or the artist.
rod03801: NORMALLY I CANNOT VIEW VIDEOS IN THIS FORUM BECAUSE I AM ON WEBTV, BUT I HAVE THE GREAT FORTUNE TO HAVE ACCESS TO A COMPUTER FOR A SHORT TIME HERE TONIGHT AND GOT TO SEE SOME OF THE VIDEOS YOU FOLKS ARE POSTING HERE! NOW I HAVE TO GO BACK THRU' THE POSTS AND CHECK OUT SOME OTHER VIDEOS THAT I HAD WANTED TO SEE LAST WEEK BUT MISSED. HOPE EVERYONE IS HAVING A GREAT WEEKEND!! ADIOS.... WW
I have never posted a video here, so I hope you all will indulge me. Check these videos out when you have a few minutes to spare.
Are there any Bela Fleck and the Flecktones fans out here? They are one of my all time favorites. I haven't listened to them in quite a while, and the talk of the Uke got me thinking about how I like when people do neat things with banjos. So, I headed over to UTube to look at some Bela Fleck videos. (He is AMAZING with the banjo.)
I was only going to post one video, but couldn't decide between 3, which one to post. (Actually I found quite a few others I'd like to post, but I will post another on a later date)
The first one is a regular video made for one of my favorite Bela Fleck songs: SInister Minister
This next one is SO cool, I just HAD to post it. This is a live video made from a concert. He plays the guitar in this one, instead of banjo. It starts off with this really neat dude doing "throat singing". If the beginning isn't your cup of tea, please keep watching, there is just so much neat stuff in the rest of it. (In my opinion anyways)
And finally, this last one is a solo by Victor Wooten of the song "Amazing Grace", part of the same concert of the previous video. Just a really neat take on the song, that I couldn't resist posting.
I promise I won't post 3 videos ever again! I was just so excited about re-visiting them, that I couldn't decide which to post. I wasn't able to find my favorite Bela Fleck and The Flecktones song of all time. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of it! (Their stuff is mostly instrumental, so the name of the song doesn't necessarily stick with you.. lol) Next week, I will post one video of theirs which shows one dude playing 2 saxophones at once! It was great!
Mousetrap: She could really belt it out. This features probably one of the best groups to ever feature the accordian. This is a really touching scene from their farewell concert.......have some tissues nearby, this will rip your heart out
I was looking for a uke version of ole black joe and came accross this. I never heard of her before but what an amazing voice! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJSnEX3y-L4
TexasToest: Thanks for that, another talented artist I can explore.......i'm not a big fan of U2,"BAD" is about the only song of theirs I enjoy.I'm in the midst of reading "ON THE ROAD WITH THE RAMONES" it tells Joey Ramones favorite song was "IN A LITTLE WHILE" and it was played to him on his deathbed.I of course had to look it up,and found this touching dedication that I'd like to share with you all
Another tormented genius who died at the age of 52 on January 1, 1997 after almost a life-time in rehab, Townes Van Zandt appears in this interview about how he wrote If I Needed You, another of my all-time favorites. He does sing the song in the end. He didn't tell my favorite story about that song, so I'll tell it. Emmy Lou Harris, and some guy (can't remember who) recorded that song, and sang the lyric "Who could ill agree she's a sight to see." The lyric is "Loop and Lil agree she's a sight to see." Loop and Lil were his parakeets.
Townes loved a joke, and he always wanted to tell jokes when he was on stage. So, he'd go around to all his friends in the room before his set, and have them (us) tell him a joke, so he could tell them while he was on stage. We all worked really hard to have a good joke for Townes whenever he was in town.
As you will see in the interview, because of his substance habits, he really couldn't tell jokes, but we all laughed anyway. He also wrote Poncho and Lefty, and White Freightliner (another one of my favorites - his ode to cocaine). You've heard his songs in a lot of places. He was more widely known in Canada than in the States. Imagine my surprise walking in a mall in Calgary, and hearing Townes and Willie Nelson singing Poncho and Lefty. Guy Clark, for obvious reasons (after watching this interview), did a tribute album to Townes after his death. It includes a lot of different artists doing Townes' music. I can't listen to it without having a sob fest. I really miss him.
Jim you're the Dandiest: How did you know Blinded By The Light was one of my favorite songs, right up there with Comfortably Numb. And, Gram Parsons too?
Nirvana: Thanks for the information. I didn't know Springsteen wroth both of those songs either. Interesting article in the Wikipedia too.
Mousetrap: Spirit in the Sky was hilarious. That really brought me up after a hard day in the salt mines.
Konu: Re: and still in the forecast for the Greater Houston Area...
Jim Dandy: oh cool! You found it! I didn't know what to look for...is that from his Live at Mocambo DVD? that's where the Texas flood cut I posted was from...got that DVD too : ) In case no one here has noticed...he's my man! My all time favorite
Konu: Re: and still in the forecast for the Greater Houston Area...
Jim Dandy: wow..that would be cool to see... I have the DVD of the concert he played at Montreaux where they booed him off stage...can ya believe it, but that's where he met Bowie and Jackson Browne, the rest is history... Having grown up here, I'm one of the lucky ones who cruised the streets of Austin bar hopping when he was still playing in the bars there...some real early days going to look on utube
Jim Dandy: well ya could just get you an old rocking chair and listening to some aging musicians... but watch out for those long tailed cats http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KszJs2jJSHE
A musical genius who could never shake some bad habits. Here is some rare live footage of him performing with Emylou Harris. When you explore his music and the bands he played and was associated with you'll learn what we have so sadly lost

Nirvana: How about some Spirit in the sky? lmbo! The Kumars were really funny! What the heck! Wrong one lmbo! I,ll try again. How about some Spirit in the sky
YOU GUYS HAVE BEEN BUSY. I JUST GOT HERE, AND IT'S LATE. SO I'M GOING TO HAVE TO CHECK ALL THIS OUT TOMORROW. THANKS FOR KEEPING THE HOME FIRES BURNING. IT'S NICE TO COME HOME TO LOTS AND LOTS TO READ. MISS RIISY, I'M GOING TO GO TO YOUR HOUSE, TIE YOU UP, AND DRAG YOU TO THE EYE DOCTOR, GIRLFRIEND. I PASS BY THERE EVERY DAY ANYWAY, SO IT WON'T BE ANY TROUBLE AT ALL. I KNOW THESE CATARACTS ARE MAKING ME CRAZY, AND THEY CAN BE REMOVED....FOR A PRICE. OF COURSE, HAHAHA, BLIND ACCOUNTANTS ARE PRETTY USELESS.
Jim Dandy: Oh I don,t know, I have one or two cds that I love to play over and over again when I am bombing down the motorway at 140mph with the windows open lmbo!
WELL SAID, JIM! I LIKE YOUR ANALOGY COMPARING MUSIC TO FOOD! DIFFERENT "TASTES" AT DIFFERENT TIMES FOR MOST OF US, I'M SURE! VARIETY IS NICE, AS YOU SAY.
YES, SHE WAS A VERY TALENTED LADY! IF YOU WANT TO HEAR ANOTHER HER SONGS THAT WILL "CHILL" YOU LISTEN TO HER COVER OF "FIELDS OF GOLD". PUT'S STING'S COVER OF THE SONG TO SHAME IN MY OPINION! BUT MIND YOU, THAT'S JUST MY OPINION. I'M SURE THE STING LOVER'S OUT THERE WOULD DISAGREE, BUT THEY PROBABLY HAVEN'T HEARD EVA DO IT! THE GAL WAS INCREDIBLE! SHE KNEW THE IMPORTANCE OF NOT HAVING TO SCREAM EVERYTHING IN ORDER TO BE "HEARD". AND WHILE I LIKE A GOOD ROCK AND ROLL SONG AS MUCH AS THE NEXT PERSON, THERE IS SO MUCH TO BE SAID FOR "CONTROL" IN VOCALS TOO! THIS GAL KNEW WHEN TO LET IT ALL HANG OUT, AND WHEN TO PULL IT IN ON GOSSAMER THREADS TOO! SURE WISH SHE WAS STILL AROUND, BUT DESPITE HER ABBREVIATED CAREER SHE LEFT US A LEGACY TO REMEMBER HER BY FOR YEARS TO COME YET!! ONE OF THE ALBUMS I LIKED WAS A "LIVE" ALBUM CALLED "LIVE AT BLUES ALLEY". WOW!!! WHAT AN ALBUM THAT ONE IS! GOTTA' CHECK IT OUT, JIM!!!
Eriisa: YES, I LIKE THAT FIRST ALBUM I GOT OF HERS, AND WANT TO DELVE INTO MORE OF HER MUSIC NOW TOO! GLAD TO BE ABLE TO SHARE ONE OF MY NEWEST FINDS HERE. 8^)
