What would be a "Power calibration error" on an external disk writer? I've had it a few times in the last couple of days but haven't a clue what it means.
this afternoon I logged onto AOL, to find a notice saying there is an update available for broadband drivers, it only takes a couple of minutes to download and it should improve connection.
I downloaded it - it jammed up, then started throwing error messages at me about files not found and incomplete driver installations. I ended up looking at a black screen, with tiny white dots all over it.
So, I tried to remove that driver and install the original one, but it wouldn't let me. I rang AOL technical support after an hour or so of shouting at the screen, and they talked me through a long process to re-install the original drivers.
They said there has been a LOT of problems with these downloads, and they guy I spoke to had spent the entire day just on these calls. He hadn't taken a call about any other problem!
So if you're on AOL, think twice before downloading their 'new and improved' driver! It took me nearly 4 hours to get rid of it and install the original again!
Cheers Rose. I normally shut it down overnight, but lately I've been leaving it on. I'll start shutting it down again and see what happens. I'm glad its nothing major though! Like being abducted by aliens!
I'll have a look at firefox, I've never used it before...
Does anyone know anything about the clock on the PC? In the last few days, mine has been losing about 20 minutes overnight, then another 25 minutes by lunchtime! How is this possible?
I use AVG. I can't understand it to be honest, yesterday it was telling me I have a virus but it can't be removed. Today its telling me I don't have one at all! I haven't 'done' anything to remove it. So is it still there? Or was it removed somehow without me realising?
I have a trojan horse that I can't get rid of, any ideas? I've tried deleting the file directly but its write protected and my virus checker can't move it either.
No there isn't, Andersp. My old PC had win98, and my new one has ME. I wanted to go back to 98 and got advice from a lot of people, who all said you have to completely remove ME to install an older version of windows. I've since got used to ME, and don't really find it much different than 98, and the system restore has come in handy a few times!
I've narrowed mine down a bit, it belongs to a 'my MP3' and 'my downloads' folders. If I double click on them, it tells me there is no such folder, but if I remove them it stops other things working!
Thanks Niki, I downloaded the bazooka spyware programme (even though I have ad aware!) and foillowed all the steps, but its still happening. It probably is caused by 'adult' material, its a new (to me) PC and the woman I bought it from hadn't cleared ANYTHING out. All I can say is that I'm glad I didn't plug it in and let my kids on it! And it had 6 virus' too. She obviously didn't have a clue how to care for a PC. Less than me, even! I think I sorted most of the things out, but this error message has me beat.
I have a great digital camera, but I like the idea of being able to see the pictures on this one before I actually take them. As well as having a camcorder! LOL!
No, not always. I was looking at another camcorder on ebay, and I checked the feedback of the seller. One of her buyers complained it didn't come with a memory card, she replied that it wasn't advertised as having one. But I don't know what I'm looking for in the advert to tell me if it has one! LOL!
I've never owned a camcorder before, and its only the price of this thats made me consider one.
But the price has also makes me suspicious! Does it come with everything I need too open the box and start using it as a camcorder and a still camera - or will I have to buy extra stuff?
I'm very tempted to buy this camcorder, but I don't know enough about them to know if its any good.
People keep waffling on about internal memory, memory cards etc... If I buy this, will I have to pay out even more for memory?
I know someone who used outlook all the time, then changed to BT yahoo... but when they start up thier PC it opens outlook automatically. Does anyone know how to stop this happening?
LOL that doenst worry me, I only use my personal computer at home, and I never visit any sites that I would need to worry about others seeing!
I was more concerned about the space these files are taking up on my hard drive. If theres a lot I'd like to delete them to get the extra space, and know how to do it in the future.
Mangue, I had a read if that site, very interesting :o)
I tried to follow the instructions on clearing the hidden files, and it kept telling me "too many parameters(/Y)" Any ideas?
